Two of us ordered the prime rib and lobster tail special. The lobster tail was undercooked, squishy and slimy; the prime rib was too rare to eat. Several dishes with multiple textures and ingredients that were just okay. Great service and atmosphere. Delicious cocktails.

Worst Thanksgiving meal ever. Can’t imagine a restaurant ever doing a worse job. Overly salted food. Muddled textures. I’ve eaten here before and the food was decent, but their thanksgiving “feast” was a complete rip off. It’s hard to mess up pumpkin pie, but with their food service bulk purchased pies, they managed to so. Even the salad was bad. Never ever again would I have Thanksgiving here. What an embarrassment for this hotel and for Durham.

We thought the food was good, not not consistently very good or great. Specifically, the sage brioche stuffing was WAY over-salted to the point of being inedible. They were out of cobbler by late afternoon so there was only a single choice for dessert, for which the wait person apologized and offered larger pieces of the remaining pumpkin pie; that did not happen. But there was a lot of food and much of it was very good. The wait staff seemed a bit frenetic. The music was too LOUD (we asked for them to turn it down) and was rather hip hop-pop that didn't seem well-suited to Thanksgiving vibe. I have been to The Counting House before when it was much better.

We went to Counting House for Thanksgiving. They did a great job overall. Portions were huge. Everything tasted good. I took off one star because there is a weird wall between the dining room and the bar. Music was dope. It was a little pricey but I would go again. Service was excellent.

We were in town for the Jerry Seinfeld show. The DPAC listed this restaurant as highly recommended. We were excited for the experience of dinner and show. We had a reservation but there was a glitch. The host told us to sit in the lounge and they would get us when our table was ready. I received a text stating our table was ready; but, we were not approached. Finally a hostess came to see if we were indeed the guests and she said she was not told that we’re were told to stay out until fetched. No worries. We ordered, the food came very quickly. I had the scallops, my husband had the shrimp neither was good. The food just was not palatable for us. We were very disappointed.

The staff, though pleasant and helpful did not come across as professional because of the way they were dressed, vey casual. When finding in that atmosphere at those prices, I would have expected a more professional looking staff. The food was just okay.

Service was excellent. A superior bar. Ambiance is very good. Food was ok. I had the porterhouse cut pork chop. On the dry side. My wife's dish was also just good. For the pricing we expected better. But overall experience was good and we will be back some time.

My friend had the Shrimp and I got the Halibut. It was delicious. The table next to us saw what we ordered and got the same thing only they split the dishes in half. Great idea but I don’t eat Shrimp anymore or I might have done that! Great place will return hopefully soon.

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Menu emphasizes seafood. Very fresh and innovative menu from whom our serve said was a new chef. The interior design is contemporary with hard surfaces. Our Sunday evening was quiet but I suspect a fuller house would be quite noisy. Interesting, Idiosyncratic appointments by the art-collector owners of 21C hotels, in which the Counting House is located. Very fine service. We want to come again when in the Durham area. Highly recommend

Wonderful seafood in interesting presentations. Started with chargrilled oysters and had shrimp on black garlic risotto for entree. Both were excellent. Server was attentive and offered some helpful recommendations. Large open space, but felt intimate and comfortable.

The service and friendliness of the staff was the best feature. The complimentary sparking and desert for our occasion was thoughtful and appreciated. The atmosphere was chic and contemporary and there was a vibe we couldn't put our finger on, but was quite welcoming. Food was excellent as expected.
