Meals aren’t about trends, shock value, or opulence.
Meals are about moments, memories and those who surround you at your table.
We believe in the complexity of simplicity, and the power of pure flavors. Our histories, vast and varied, deserve to be memorialized and romanticized by dishes that at once remind us of home and transport us to somewhere new.
We don’t make food for everyone else, we make food for you.
Wonderful eating experience!!! Beautiful restaurant, attentive staff, Mignon was a wonderful waitress. Food was excellent. Had the dirty arborio rice balls, curried goat with gnocchi, the marinated shrimp and the red snapper were wonderful. Left full but happy!! Highly recommend
Another amazing meal at this great restaurant. The goat stew is out of this world!
The food was fantastic. The entrees were good, but I want to give a shout-out to the spring vegetables which were inspired. Front of the house needs work. It took a while to order drinks, then we were asked to order our food before we got our drinks. We protested, which then meant we were ignored for a while. The server took our menus and held them tightly against her chest before asking us to order the second time. Was it a test to see how well we remembered the menu? I asked to have the menus back to order, which seemed to be a problem, but she eventually complied. We were told there were no oysters, even though we walked past oysters on ice on the way to the table.
My boyfriend and I came here for dinner from out of town, and we loved everything we tried. We sampled 2 small plates (conch croquettes and pig ears) then the tuna tartare and split the pork loin and every single bite was delicious. You could really tell each meal was well thought out and beautifully constructed. May be slightly on the expensive side but you leave feeling full and that it is worth the price!
Everything was amazing!
Go early and have a cocktail at the bar. They serve dinner at the bar for walk-in traffic so it can be a little crowded. I heard a singer referring to NOLA as the northern most city in the Caribbean during a street performance earlier the day we dined at Compere Lapin. This place makes that case with both style and substance. . I am in NOLA a couple of times a year and the experience at Compere Lapin made me regret not having tried it much earlier.
Service was slow. We waited 10-15 minutes between plates.
As a huge Top Chef fan, the thought of Nina Compton's restaurant of course appealed to me. The actual experience blew me away. The hospitality was incomparable, from the hostess accomodating us (including telling me where the best vantage point for the kitchen was to get a peek at Nina....who was in fact cooking brunch on a Sunday morning in her restaurant), to our server picking up on our sense of humor and joking around with us and giving fantastic reccomendations with specials and cocktail pairings. The gnocchi was a cloud and the coconut chia pudding was perfectly sweet without being cloying. 10/10 would reccomend to anyone who will listen to me.
Compere Lapin was a beautiful experience. My wife and I celebrated our 6 year wedding anniversary this past weekend. We were married in St. Lucia and saw the chef was from the island. Her dishes took us back to our wedding and celebration on the island. Food was GREAT and service was ON TIME. I began recommending the restaurant the NEXT DAY :).
We had starters, entree, and dessert.
If you enjoy a good atmosphere while eating delicious food, you don't want to miss Compere Lapin.
Great Saturday brunch! Had Biscuits and Gravy, burger, couple starters and Bloody Mary/mimosas. Excellent! Service very friendly as well.
Food was very good. The service felt rushed as they were constantly coming by to clear plates even though we were not finished. It ruined the dining experience.
Everything was fantastic! You can’t beat the food and the servers are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable and attentive.
The food was might fine. The servers were excellent, but there is a policy of waiting to seat the table until all of the diners are present, even though the dining room was basically empty when we arrived. This gave the experience an air of pretentiousness that was not apparent in the execution of the meal.
Soooooo so very good. Great atmosphere, and the snapper was amazing. I am certain you cannot go wrong with your order. Will be back!
Food was decent but I wouldn’t say amazing. Service was really slow.
while true to the menu description, food came to the table with an imaginative presentation. Wonderful variety of menu choices. Featured cocktails were inventive. If I had more time in NO I would go back the next day.
Five of us dined at Compere Lapin for the first time. Unforgettable! You must go.
Excellent and creative food in a lovely venue. The tuna tartare was the best thing we ate in New Orleans. Book ahead because even on a Wednesday night there was a two hour wait for walk in customers.
Another memorable meal in NOLA.
Solo on business trip, ordered cow heel soup and curried goat.
Truly an amazing meal. I’m a foodie, but usually don’t leave written reviews. I break my own rules for this restaurant. It’s just fantastic. We went straight through on the courses... small bites, first second and sides. Everything was fantastic. Like insane. No flaws. Service was amazing wine (Burgundy) was outstanding. One of the better meals of my life
We had an incredible dinner at Compere Lapin! Fantastic service, delicious food, and a wonderful wine list all made for a great experience!
Food not as good as it was when it opened
We went for lunch.
Let's start with the cocktail menu and wine by the glass list: very limited selection of wine and only one Chardonnay for $18 a glass. Although the specialty cocktail list is just funky and unappealing, the bartender made a terrific Cosmopolitan!
The food menu: very limited. The chicken salad was good, but the spiced cauliflour bits did not enhance the dish and the shredded cabbage was just bitter. The cheese pasta with shredded Brussels sprouts was a good idea but it was WAY TOO salty. The biscuits and butters were delicious.
Dessert: False advertising. The main event you would think would be listed first: key lime curd. Well, the key lime curd were micro dots on the plate. Otherwise it was a small slice of a gateau with sliced fresh fruit - grapefruit slices and orange. That was weird. It was aesthetically appealing, but just ok and a big let down given my expectation of having some key lime curd.
It's expensive given the selections.
If you are looking for a fabulous lunch, go to Bayona or Palace Cafe or Mr. B's Bistro. If you want good food that isn't found on every menu, try Carmo. Really interesting and delicious food and much better value.
AMAZING!!! Thank you for the life altering experience💙😘yummmyyyyyyyy!!!!!
We saved the best for last on our trip to NOLA. This place offers all the culture and taste of New Orleans. Very classy setting. Food is interesting and delectable. Highly Recommend.
The #1 restaurant in NOLA did not disappoint. Everything was delectable and delicious and the biscuits were unbelievable.
Our dinner started out amazing. Server was engaging, giving recommendations, and each dish that came out was better than the last. What put a damper on our night was when a bus boy accidentally knocked over my glass of wine. No big deal; it was an accident and it was about 1/2 full. However I wasn't given a new glass of wine, which was just odd. I don't know if the busboy said I dropped it? But usually when a drink is spilled, it gets replaced.
From the moment the glass of wine got dropped our server changed her tone and suddenly became cold, dismissive and ready to get us out of there as soon as possible. We ordered ice cream for dessert and it took longer to get the ice cream than it did to get our first course.
It was quite possibly the most bizaare shift in service I've ever experienced.
I would recommend Compere Lapin to others for the food but there are some gaps in service so if you are looking for that flawless experience this is not it.
Love the atmosphere! Great service! Awesome meal!
Tuna tartare was great
Dirty tic arrancini also very good
Snapper was excellent
Cauliflower shrimp pasta was very good.
The only weak spot was dessert...the key lime.
Drinks were great.
Great Sunday brunch with excellent service.
I made a brunch reservation here to celebrate with my newlywed friends. I was upset that the service was slow, inattentive, and unfriendly. The food was mostly good, but unfortunately the bad service set the tone. It was not busy, so that almost made it worse. We had to repeatedly track our waitress down for more coffee. At one point, we had to get up to talk to the waitress because she did not check in for about 20 minutes. The waitress spilled an entire tray of dishes on us too. The staff was quick to clean up the shattered glass, but there was a quick apology and nothing else. My husband and I had planned to come back for dinner another night based on reviews, but promptly canceled based on our brunch experience.
Delicious food and drinks. Service was perfect. Recommend the goat and sweet potato gnocchi. It was amazing!
Food was 1/3 outstanding 1/3 very good and 1/3 meh. Apps were the high point. Biscuits and gravy was an undifferentiated, amorphous trough of goo. Burger was tasty though microscopic. Came extra well done instead of med-rare. Goat ragu was Awesome! 5 out of 5! Specialty blood Mary was a disrespectfully light pour. Service was excellent especially given how busy they were.
Wonderful menu in lovely spot. Food was excellent and unique. Gorgeous flavors. Loved the spiced carrot soup, the goat with sweet potato gnocchi and a wonderful lemon dessert with poppy seed sorbet. Amazing little biscuits served in place of standard bread with honey butter and bacon butter. All excellent!
Exceptional, creative food preparations. Service was also exceptional. The prices were on the high side but worth it!
If you’re a solo diner you pretty much have to sit at the bar which was a bit of a disappointment since I was looking to have my feet on the ground (but understandable). However the food was great and the bartenders amazing so it’s alll good. Get the broiled shrimp and goat curry. You won’t be disappointed.
Very prompt service. Great breakfast!
Slow service, but food was quite good.
Nina Compton’s food never fails to amaze!
