I really enjoyed the dining experience overall. However, a couple of dishes were too spicy for my husband. Wish there was a spice warning on the menu.

The complimentary buttermilk biscuits with bacon butter and honey butter were delicious - a great start to the meal. Next came the small bites we chose: the conch croquettes (delightful) and the pig ears. Now, I personally enjoyed the pig ears, but my husband found them too salty. I can see where he’s coming from - they were not shy on spices & flavor. My recommendation would be to ask for more lime slices and squeeze more lime all over them. Should balance the flavors out a bit more.

The next dish to come out was the marinated shrimp, which tastes like ceviche. It’s a pretty small dish and they were a little skimpy on the shrimp, so be warned. Then came the cow heel soup with bone marrow and okra. Ok, again, really bold flavors, delicious unctuous deep umami, with a strange spicy aftertaste. Couldn’t figure out where the spice was coming from, so we asked the waitress, and she said there’s chili oil in the soup. Wish we had known that. A little too generous with the chili oil there. Otherwise, it tasted good.

Our main dish was the curried goat with sweet potato gnocchi. Interesting combination of flavors. Never really associated the Caribbean with curry, but the dish takes me there. The goat was tender and not game-y, and the sweet potato gnocchi helps balance the spiciness of the curry a little.

All the dishes are very flavor-forward, so we needed something sweet to tame our palates. We opted for the sorbets, which did the trick! The sorbets had a nice silky consistency, very tropical in flavor, and not too sweet.

The restaurant is in a boutique hotel that was trendy and hipster-y. I enjoyed the decor and ambience, and the service was fast & friendly. Glad we got to dine here on our first trip to New Orleans.

Had Easter Brunch here with four adults and four kids. The staff was great and really accommodating. Food was excellent, we didn’t have anything we did not like. Will stop by for a meal next time we are in town.

We were fortunate enough to have Easter brunch at this fine restaurant. Everything we had (French toast, avacado preparation, biscuits, coffee) was exceptionally good. The service was impeccable and the restaurant was clean nicely decorated. The hostess seated us promptly and was friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant for any meal.

Amazing.

I normally only write reviews to complain, but this time I am taking the time to give thanks and praise for the excellent dinner that I just had. I’m pretty adventurous with food and because this was my first time in New Orleans, I was extra adventurous. I ordered the pig ears, cow heel, adobo pork, and zeppole for dessert.

Pig ears - I was expecting something like the texture of cartilage and chewy. Surprise - it was more like pork rinds + KFC batter/seasoning (but better). Very delicious.

Cow heel soup - you won’t see hooves or something. It’s more of little bits of tendon. And when you mix it with bone marrow, you get another pleasant surprise. It had a spicy kick to it. I’m not a fan of spicy food, but this one was good.

Adobo pork tenderloin - this dish threw me off a little because the pork was cooked medium rare, which I have never had before. It tasted great and was very tender. I would suggest, humbly, that they ask guests next time what temperature they would like their pork cooked (but that the chef recommends medium rare).

Zeppole - this is a dessert that wow’ed me. It epitomizes the exceptional level of creativity and imagination of the chef. I would describe it as banana bread beignets sitting on Nutella, dusted with powdered sugar, and with caramel dipping sauce on the side. This dessert puts regular beignets on a different level - heavenly level. I am willing to have this as my last meal on earth. It is a well-thought of dessert and perfectly executed. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

All in all, everything was a pleasant surprise.

Food was solid, our server was great but what tainted the experience was the attitude and rude tone that the host took with my young (and well behaved) daughter while we were waiting for our reservation. The way he addressed her and my wife was abrupt, discourteous and really set a sour tone for our entire dining experience. That being said the rest of the staff was fantastic and was great with our family.

The food was fantastic. The entrees were good, but I want to give a shout-out to the spring vegetables which were inspired. Front of the house needs work. It took a while to order drinks, then we were asked to order our food before we got our drinks. We protested, which then meant we were ignored for a while. The server took our menus and held them tightly against her chest before asking us to order the second time. Was it a test to see how well we remembered the menu? I asked to have the menus back to order, which seemed to be a problem, but she eventually complied. We were told there were no oysters, even though we walked past oysters on ice on the way to the table.

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner from out of town, and we loved everything we tried. We sampled 2 small plates (conch croquettes and pig ears) then the tuna tartare and split the pork loin and every single bite was delicious. You could really tell each meal was well thought out and beautifully constructed. May be slightly on the expensive side but you leave feeling full and that it is worth the price!

Go early and have a cocktail at the bar. They serve dinner at the bar for walk-in traffic so it can be a little crowded. I heard a singer referring to NOLA as the northern most city in the Caribbean during a street performance earlier the day we dined at Compere Lapin. This place makes that case with both style and substance. . I am in NOLA a couple of times a year and the experience at Compere Lapin made me regret not having tried it much earlier.

As a huge Top Chef fan, the thought of Nina Compton's restaurant of course appealed to me. The actual experience blew me away. The hospitality was incomparable, from the hostess accomodating us (including telling me where the best vantage point for the kitchen was to get a peek at Nina....who was in fact cooking brunch on a Sunday morning in her restaurant), to our server picking up on our sense of humor and joking around with us and giving fantastic reccomendations with specials and cocktail pairings. The gnocchi was a cloud and the coconut chia pudding was perfectly sweet without being cloying. 10/10 would reccomend to anyone who will listen to me.

Compere Lapin was a beautiful experience. My wife and I celebrated our 6 year wedding anniversary this past weekend. We were married in St. Lucia and saw the chef was from the island. Her dishes took us back to our wedding and celebration on the island. Food was GREAT and service was ON TIME. I began recommending the restaurant the NEXT DAY :).

We had starters, entree, and dessert.

If you enjoy a good atmosphere while eating delicious food, you don't want to miss Compere Lapin.

Cheers,
KP

The food was might fine. The servers were excellent, but there is a policy of waiting to seat the table until all of the diners are present, even though the dining room was basically empty when we arrived. This gave the experience an air of pretentiousness that was not apparent in the execution of the meal.

We went for lunch.

Let's start with the cocktail menu and wine by the glass list: very limited selection of wine and only one Chardonnay for $18 a glass. Although the specialty cocktail list is just funky and unappealing, the bartender made a terrific Cosmopolitan!

The food menu: very limited. The chicken salad was good, but the spiced cauliflour bits did not enhance the dish and the shredded cabbage was just bitter. The cheese pasta with shredded Brussels sprouts was a good idea but it was WAY TOO salty. The biscuits and butters were delicious.

Dessert: False advertising. The main event you would think would be listed first: key lime curd. Well, the key lime curd were micro dots on the plate. Otherwise it was a small slice of a gateau with sliced fresh fruit - grapefruit slices and orange. That was weird. It was aesthetically appealing, but just ok and a big let down given my expectation of having some key lime curd.

It's expensive given the selections.

If you are looking for a fabulous lunch, go to Bayona or Palace Cafe or Mr. B's Bistro. If you want good food that isn't found on every menu, try Carmo. Really interesting and delicious food and much better value.

Our dinner started out amazing. Server was engaging, giving recommendations, and each dish that came out was better than the last. What put a damper on our night was when a bus boy accidentally knocked over my glass of wine. No big deal; it was an accident and it was about 1/2 full. However I wasn't given a new glass of wine, which was just odd. I don't know if the busboy said I dropped it? But usually when a drink is spilled, it gets replaced.
From the moment the glass of wine got dropped our server changed her tone and suddenly became cold, dismissive and ready to get us out of there as soon as possible. We ordered ice cream for dessert and it took longer to get the ice cream than it did to get our first course.
It was quite possibly the most bizaare shift in service I've ever experienced.
I would recommend Compere Lapin to others for the food but there are some gaps in service so if you are looking for that flawless experience this is not it.

I made a brunch reservation here to celebrate with my newlywed friends. I was upset that the service was slow, inattentive, and unfriendly. The food was mostly good, but unfortunately the bad service set the tone. It was not busy, so that almost made it worse. We had to repeatedly track our waitress down for more coffee. At one point, we had to get up to talk to the waitress because she did not check in for about 20 minutes. The waitress spilled an entire tray of dishes on us too. The staff was quick to clean up the shattered glass, but there was a quick apology and nothing else. My husband and I had planned to come back for dinner another night based on reviews, but promptly canceled based on our brunch experience.

Food was 1/3 outstanding 1/3 very good and 1/3 meh. Apps were the high point. Biscuits and gravy was an undifferentiated, amorphous trough of goo. Burger was tasty though microscopic. Came extra well done instead of med-rare. Goat ragu was Awesome! 5 out of 5! Specialty blood Mary was a disrespectfully light pour. Service was excellent especially given how busy they were.
