Meals aren’t about trends, shock value, or opulence.
Meals are about moments, memories and those who surround you at your table.
We believe in the complexity of simplicity, and the power of pure flavors. Our histories, vast and varied, deserve to be memorialized and romanticized by dishes that at once remind us of home and transport us to somewhere new.
We don’t make food for everyone else, we make food for you.
This was up there with some of my best ever dining experiences. Everything we ate was delicious, the service was great. I can't wait to go back.
Absolutely Fantastic! From bread service to dessert everything was perfect. The best red snapper I have ever had. My husband had the goat curry, also delicious. Our server was attentive and helpful. We had a wonderful time. Thank you!
We are huge fans of Nina Compton and our experience at Compere Lapin did not disappoint. The wait staff was very friendly and provided everything we needed before having to ask, the bottomless Brunch Punch was refreshing without being overly sweet, and the food was fantastic. Two of us shared 2 small plates and 1 large plate and were delightfully full when retiring. The seating was comfortable and the noise level allowed us to speak without raising our voices to hear each other. Thisis a wonderful spot for brunch (or dinner).
Great service and food
Claire was AWESOME we came in town for the Eagles and Saints playoff game and the food, the hospitality, the love was so real! We didn’t have to worry about a thing she guided us through the menu and we were su happy. 25 out of 10. 5 stars, what a great experience! Get the punch and the ragu!
My Wife and I wanted to eat before going to the Saints game so we chose Compere Lapin. My Wife has followed Chef Nina's career for some time and was ecstatic to see her in the kitchen (especially with a broken ankle). Our server Stephanie was friendly, fun and knowledgeable. The food was delicious, we will be back.
Everything was amazing and you have to try the marinated shrimp!! The sauce is out of this world!!
One of the better all around dinner experiences you can have. Atmosphere is rustic modern, fitting in with the warehouse district theme. Cocktail and wine list are very creatine. Menu is New Orleans with a twist. All items we ordered were an A. Value is pretty good, but they did charge $5 for still water. It was good water nonetheless
Amazing food and service!
Great food with great cocktails
Great dinner before our Broadway Show. Always love going to Compare Lapin. Never a disappointment.
The food was amazing and the restaurant is beautiful
We had a Sunday brunch there. In a city where Sunday brunch is a way of life, Compere Lapin stood out. Their three course prix fixe brunch--2 small plates and 1 large plate for 35 bucks--is terrific value. In fact, the so-called small plates were plenty even before the large plate arrived. Come hungry, or think about going with one small and a large, or just two small plates.
Compton's food is very creative. Seasoning can be a little heavy-handed, but the mains (had goat and a pasta dish) were quite good. Service feels rushed, with wait staff pushing uncomfortably hard at the beginning of the meal. Once the apps came, it felt like the pressure was finally off. I have never been so rushed at a restaurant of its kind. A dessert of soursop, coconut, and yoghurt was miraculously brilliant.
Amazing food, amazing service!it was my first time to dine here and I was impressed. As someone who dined in many New Orleans restaurants I could put this one near the top of my list.
Excellent food and very well-trained waitstaff. Cocktails expertly crafted. Overall 10/10.
Place was highly recommended. The food was quite good...scallop special delicious as was the goat curry. Drinks tasty as well. Service was prompt and wait staff attentive and friendly. Main concern was the noise--we were placed adjacent to the (very crowded) bar. Although we hadn't specifically requested a quiet location, as soon as they starting seating us we asked for alternatives and management was not at all accommodating. So, while the food was very good, the total experience less than expected.
The staff were energetic and knowledgeable about the ingredients. The food is amazing can’t wait to return.
After reading recent reviews regarding bad service and long waits for meals, we almost cancelled the reservation. Our experience was perfect from the warm greeting by the hostess to the end of the meal. Our server was very busy, but we never had to wait for anything. Our meal may have even been served sooner than we wanted since we did not even finish our cocktails before the food started coming. We choose five dishes to share between the two of us. Each dish was excellent. We are so happy that we didn’t cancel our reservation. Without hesitation, I highly recommend!
Come from philly every year just for the biscuits and butter!
Everything about this restaurant is absolutely wonderful except that we found it so loud it is difficult to have a conversation. Will definitely go back, food and service are amazing.
My wagyu burger was excellent. The salad greens were good, but the dressing was too salty. The sweet potato side was creative and very tasty. The atmosphere and service were very pleasant.
The food is interesting and delicious. We found the pork to be very tender but too salty.
Our special dine out for NOLA trip (where every meal can be special). Excellent craft cocktails to start in the bar then three outstanding dishes - duck confit, goat curry, and seafood pasta. Rising to the challenge, the sommelier suggested a delightful Loire white that complemented all 3 and developed beautifully. Great conversation and service provided by Stephanie.
Restaurant draws a young, local, after work crowd with its casual atmosphere and wood and brick decor. The food is excellent. This young chef is winning accolades and her menu is eclectic and fun. Especially good were the shrimp appetizers and the conch fritters.
We booked our lunch reservation following a recommendation from the guide on our food history tour, and after reading many good reports online. However, the reality didn't live up the hype.
The meal opened with complementary biscuits, served with whipped butter. These were unfortunately still raw in the centre. We raised this with our server, who replaced them immediately and without question.....even more unfortunately, the replacement batch were also still raw in the centre. We opted against taking a second replacement.
The starters were pleasant enough, and all enjoyed, and whilst the main courses were adequate, they lacked the finesse that the price point and portion sizes suggested. Two of our party opted for the wagyu burger accompanied with fries - the burger was under seasoned and the fries were massively over seasoned. The other two opted for the restaurants signature dish, goat curry. At $30 a portion we a were expecting something a little more memorable than what we actually received.
All in all, an adequate meal, but not the premium experience that we had been led to believe it would be.
Love this place. It’s one of New Orleans’ most popular restaurants and always gets rave reviews. Not easy in a city with pounds of new restaurants coming on board every month.
Note that this review applies to the NYE prix fixe dinner. We (party of 2) had 8:30 pm reservations, but weren’t seated until close to 9 pm because they were “backed up.” OK, that happens. We quickly (we’ll, slowly) learned why - courses came out paaaaainfully slowly, it was after 9:30 before we received our first course. There was ample waitstaff, so there must have been some kitchen issues, but no one at any point acknowledged that there was any sort of problem. At about 10:45 we were still two courses away from finishing the six-course menu, at which point we had to ask if there was any way we could be done by 11; like most people out on NYE we had somewhere to be by 11:30. To waitstaff’s credit they obliged and expedited the final courses, but we are overall extremely disappointed by the experience. Two & a half hours for a six course meal is beyond ridiculous, I’m surprised a place like this couldn’t figure out how to efficiently serve their guests, especially considering the common menu.
We were here for New Year's eve and they had a set menu. At first we weren't too excited about that, but wow!!! What an incredible meal. Every dish was so creative and tasty. I will definitely go back. Genius. My only suggestion is for them to get some ginger ale at the bar. I like my bourbon with a bit of ginger ale and all they had was ginger beer or sprite. Ugh.
I have never written a review but I must say:
The NYE fixed menu dinner was HORRIBLE. It essentially ruined our evening. Very disappointed. I was very surprised given the high reviews online for the regular menu and the fact that the chef is a James Beard Award winner. I truly have never had such a terrible meal in my life. The appetizer salmon was foul and mushy, the soup and pasta were inedibly salty, the entre fish was void of all flavor, and my steak had a huge cartilage vein down the middle. Additionally, it was extremely over priced.
That said, I will admit the wine pairing offerings were excellent.
Food is great as always but service was very slow. Hot chicken and goat are the stars of the place.
Food was fantastic!
My can’t miss in NOLA! Don’t miss the brunch punch. I have never had a bad dish. The fondues, zeppoles, breakfast hash, biscuits and gravy are unbelievable. However, the masterpiece above all others is the French Toast. Trust me- it is the best ever. One of the best brunch places ever.
Best duck ever
We thank you very much
C u soon
Great food and service!
Excellent food and inventive cocktails. Tasteful midcentury decor, great atmosphere.
Food is fantastic , third time dining here and food has been exceptional every time . The French toast is one of the best things I’ve ever tasted .
Didn’t give 5 stars because they clearly don’t understand a medium cooked burger should NOT have straight up raw meat inside
Phenomenal food, drinks and atmosphere.
