Citrus Cafe Ratings and Reviews
When we just want to be comfy and have a nicely served meal, we think of Citrus Cafe. It is 'local' and kind of unique in that they have a private dining room, a bustling breakfast and lunch crowd and a steady, if lighter dinner crowd and booths where you can feel cozy and actually hear one another better. This gives us a safety net when needing a quick go-to for dinner!
Fun for a foursome on a date night. Not pretentious, but they're serious about their food and their servers are typically warm, friendly, capable and most helpful! They even serve a classic "liver and onions"...which is a fave of a dear friend who says Citrus Cafe's liver is always primo! So, in short, this was another tasty and enjoyable dinner with a smiling and helpful server at our beckon call.
Nothing was great but nothing was bad. Serving sizes are generous. I had the recommended meatloaf and I like my mother's recipe better. Service was brusk but not quite rude; competent, so it didn't bother. It was perfect ambiance for the situation; a family gathering after a memorial service where the company was more important than the dining experience. The ambiance was perfect for relaxing and talking. If visiting is the focus, I would recommend; if the dining experience is the focus, I might look elsewhere.
I had been to Citrus Cafe a few times and enjoyed it, but I am sorry to say this time was a disappointment. I ordered the Spinach and Chicken salad which included apples, however they were not fresh and crispy as expected in a salad, but like the filling of an apple pie: cooked, spiced and sweetened, in large, soft pieces. When combined with the mustard dressing it gave the salad an unpleasant flavor. The rest of my party had sandwiches, one a French Dip which he said was OK, the others had a pastrami Reuben and a chicken club, neither finished. Our server was efficient, but not very congenial.
Dining staff very pleasant and friendly. The Greek cheese appetizer was very tasty, though there was enough for four people. The entrees were fair, large portions. The first wine I chose off the menu was not available. Convenient location to where we were staying.
We arrived about 10 minutes early for our reservation and the gentleman at the podium seemed flustered and annoyed we were early, saying they were still finishing seating previous reservations. We waited while people walked up to the podium and were told it was a 10-15 minute wait. We were finally seated 10 minutes after our reservation time, so a 20 minute wait, 5 minutes longer than walk-ups. And I think only then because I went up and asked again. The food was good, but it was Father's Day and they had $4 mimosas and bloody mary's... There were several large groups and 2 of them were actually screaming, not talking loud, screaming. No one asked them to keep it down. Service was mediocre with my having to track the server down for the check. Friends have said they love coming here, but probably trying it for the first time on a holiday was not a great plan.
We were meeting friends and wanted a place to talk while eating. At first, the noise level was too loud in the main dining area so we asked to be seated in the back room which was much better until a couple of groups came in. We all enjoyed our food. The servings were large and very good. Two of us had the lunch special and the others a sandwich and a salad/sandwich combo. We would definitely go back if we were in the area.
Menu: Very good with plentiful choices. Staff: Courteous, attentive and responsive. Food: Prepared well, tasty and ample. Pricing: $$, as advertised and competitive. Accessibility: Excellent location, on the corner of Red Hill and Edinger, not far from either the I-5 or 55 Freeway.
Caught the attention of myself and my business associate; we shall be returning for lunch there.
We hosted a luncheon for 20 to celebrate Administrative Assistants Day. It's not easy to wait on a large crowd all of whom ordered something different. It took a while for the waitress to take our order, but once she did and the food was served, everything was just fine. Everyone was able to order just they wanted.
I DRESSED FOR WINTER AND STILL IT WAS COLD. ASKED THEY TURN UP THE HEAT AND IT NEVER WAS COMFORTABLE ENOUGH. MY HUSBAND HAD TO DO OUT TO THE CAR TO GET ANOTHER JACKET TO PUT OVER MY JEANS!
FOOD WAS GOOD. I LIKED THE MEDITERRANEAN OMELETTE. EASY TO STAY ON MY HEALTHY EATING DIET.
OVERALL I WOULD GO AGAIN, BUT IT'S NOT A FAVORITE.
Great Restaurant and Jorge was an excellent waiter, very friendly and informative. He was polite and attentive. Would go here again and would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Found this restaurant on a business trip to the area. Used a restaurant.com coupon and it was well worth it. The lamb shank was well worth the price. Very big and filling. You will definitely not leave hungry.
Visited Citrus Cafe within the past several days. I disagree with other reviewers that compare this restaurant with a garden variety Denny's or Coco's. The food here was far superior and the service was excellent. I had a Cobb's scramble which was great and better than most breakfasts I have had in "coffee-shop" environments. Give it a try and see if you agree.
We went here for a Sunday breakfast/brunch and had low expectations going in. This is just a regular old chain type restaurant like Mimi's, cocos or Denny's. Menu had a decent selection but food was just basic all American breakfast options and nothing was notable or super yummy. Nothing special or memorable at all about this place. Decor is outdated and a tad strange with all the colors. Service was not good at all. Couldn't get coffees or water refills without asking, strange waitress, check delivered and handled oddly. Just not a place I need to go back to or would recommend to anyone.
Citrus Cafe continues to be one of my favorite easy dining locations. In many ways, it is like a local "Coffee Shop". It has very good food and service, with very reasonable prices. With its location, it's never busy at night. This means it's not noisy so you can always have a relaxing dinner and a pleasant conversation.
The citrus cafe was very dissapointing. I had not been there in 2 years. I even checked the web when I ordered the certificate from restraunts.com and all looked the same on the site as I remembered. When we go there the resturaunt was empty other than a couple of tables and people were smoking in the patio right outside the door. The special board was gone. The happy hour listed on the web was a lie. WOW will never go back. We even left without eating and exchanged the certificate.
