Conceived by Sir David Tang, the founder of China Clubs in Hong Kong, Peking, and Singapore, as well as the life-style brand, "Shanghai Tang", China Tang aims to define the best of classical Cantonese food.

There is no fusion of dishes nor compromise on classical recipes, all are prepared with the freshest ingredients and traditional spices and flavourings. No mono-sodium-glutomate (MSG) shall be used.

The decoration of China Tang will evoke a romantic sense of art deco of the thirties. At the same time, there will be an abundance of Chinoiserie as well as a collection of art from both.

Expected a lot more from here. When you charge £7-£8 per item from the dim sum menu you expect it to be if exceptional standard. Overall the price we paid

So noisy and so slow. A pale comparison with China Tang Hong Kong.

Dear Pops, Thank you for your comments. Saturday evenings are invariably our busiest and can be very bustling, although this is no excuse for slow service and I apologise if that was your experience. Our sister restaurant in HK is indeed a much calmer setting and I am sorry that you felt we did not compare favourably. I do hope this will not deter you from visiting us on another occasion, perhaps during the week and that we may restore your faith in our standards of service.

The food was fantastic - even standard dishes like sweet and sour chicken were elevated and more exotic wagyu beef dishes were sublime. Service was good enough although not the kind of experience that makes you feel special. Not a particularly intimate experience as it was very noisy and we had to raise our voices in order to have a conversation which got tiresome after a while. A decent restaurant but the decor and interior would need to be updated to compare with places like Novikov and Hakkasan.

Its a nice place but they need to be more creative with their menu. Quite limited. The beef was outstanding quality, but for the price, everything should be outstanding. Not at all wowed by anything offered here, if anything it was quite average for the price. You pay for the name and the service. Otherwise I have had better chinese dishes elsewhere. They need to get with the times in my opinion. Decor dated and audience is older, but menu needs work.

We strive to stay true to the classic Cantonese cuisine rather than adopt a fusion style of menu, but I am sorry if this did not deliver to your expectation. Our décor is inspired by the glamorous and eclectic Shanghainese art deco style of the 1930's, and has had a complete soft refurbishment in January of this year. I am sorry we failed to wow you on this occasion.

Great place to be to eat dim sum and high quality chinese food. The atmosphere is nice too and not too loud, allowing for the conversation to flow at your table without being disturbed by the neighbour. Quite expensive compared to cheap eats you can find in china town but worth it since you get the quality.

Such disappointing service. We have been coming to China tang for 15 years and never experienced such poor service. There have been so many staff changes, the new staff just don’t have the same ethos.
