A modern local is a new concept that is in a sense, the evolution of a gastropub. A culinary-centric, Public House that celebrates it's "local." Whether it's the seasonal, local, farm-to-table sourcing of our ingredients, the history of the local area, or the local resident that feels their sense of ownership here. Chapter One: the modern local is a product of its ideals and creative style as well as its community and local history. We are humble servants to our guests. We were a little early for our reservation. However, the very nice hostess seated us right away. Our waitress could have not been any better. She was very pleasant and attentive. We ordered three different things to share. All three were very good! We highly recommend Chapter One.

Had a beautiful valentines dinner, with my wife we were fortunate enough to sit at the table by the fireplace.
French onion soup was fantastic as well as my salad with Steak.

My husband and I went for our 4 year anniversary! The food was so delicious, as always and our waiter was nice and very attentive. We love dining there!

Everything was pretty good just thought it was a bit pricey for what we received. A company party was happening in an adjacent room, so that resulted in slower service and louder noise then we wanted. The beer list was great though!!!

We arrived and stood by the host desk for 10 minutes before someone helped us. Once we were seated things went pretty fast. The drinks here are excellent but the food in my personal opinion looks good but due to lack of seasoning it is not rememberable. We had the mac and cheese with chicken, and two salads one with beef medallions and the other with shrimp that looked and taste as if they belong in a shrimp cocktail glass. Usually people grill the shrimp also the waiter told us the shrimp would be grilled.

Went to brunch thos past sunday with 6 friends..food was excellent, 11.00 bottomless mimosas with juice flight..service great too

Came in for weekend brunch. Bottomless mimosas - my glass was never less than half full. The crab cake Benedict was delicious as was the poutine. Abner was fantastic.

Sunday brunch...had reservation and was seated promptly. Very loud inside, waiter frenetically trying his best to serve without appearing too harried. Had the SAS (southern style chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy), was just ok. Not enough gravy on rock hard biscuits, no gravy on the steak which was breaded and fried with little flavor. Disappointing. Also had the crab cake benedicts which was tasty. The potato hash on the side was flavorless and overcooked, like potato croutons. A little salt and pepper could have elevated the flavors, but since there's none to be found on the tables, one can only assume the proprietors think their food cannot be improved upon. Sorry to say, it just ain't so.

It was a great time and the food was delicious, as always. I was sad to see, however, that the duck fat fries had changed. They changed companies and now they are simple shoestring fries, whereas before they were thick and delicious.

This experience was bad at first. Made a reservation well in advance, called and spoke to someone twice prior to reservation to make sure we had outdoor seating due to noise level inside and I was told they’d take note of this and make sure to have a table ready for me on Sunday. Sunday came along and the manager on duty said she saw the note left behind where I requested outdoor seating but let me know that she wouldn’t be able to accommodate due to lack of chairs (keep in mind, I see chairs being occupied by customers purses). After someback and forth and NO apology or alternatives from her, we get a booth. I have someone I assume was a waiter come to my table where I explained my situations and frustrations over what had just happened and he was AMAZING! He reparatedly apologized for something that was not his fault and that was greatly appreciated. He offered me a complimentary shot, since it was my birthday, and a Bloody Mary on the house, as well as a feee desert. He was great and knew how to treat a guest! And even if he wouldn’t have provided any free things, the fact that he offered a sincere apology and offered alternatives to the seating was so great! Food and brunch were great like always! But he definitely was what made the experience pleasant! Wish I would have cought his name! He is the only reason I choose to come back to chapter one, after the awful experience with the manager! Every one should be taking notes from him!

My mom wanted to try somewhere new for her birthday and this was a great choice. She wanted a REALLY early dinner so we made resevations for 5 pm. We parked in the structure across the street but it looks like there's parking behind the restaurant too. They validated parking for us, so no worries. The service here was spectacular. We were seated right away. Super knowledgeable wait staff and everyone is friendly. Cozy atmosphere. The artichoke spaghetti is delish. Other people in our party also gave top marks to the mac and cheese, steak salad, and the fries. Clever and tasty cocktail options. Very Instagram-ready presentations. We'll be back!
