The Dining Room at Castle Hill Inn
Absolutely loved our time there. Nick was phenomenal and the food never disappoints.
We had the fixed price three course menu which is what I would suggest as a means to control the cost but we were given a few extra tastes at no additional charge which was very nice. Also, the choices were combinations of tastes that I have never seen together. All in all, it was a very nice night out.
Sensational and certainly one of the best places we have ever eaten. We will definitely be returning
Loved Castle Hill, everything was top notch. Even was surprised with gifts to take home for me and friend’s birthdays. Didn’t realize it was a fixed menu but everything was divine. Highly recommend.
A+++ experience.. food , ambiance, service all exceptional
Service was outstanding. Room was lovely and food
Was excellent but very overpriced
The Castle Inn is at a special scenic location in Newport and is especially fun in the warmer weather. We were there for a winter celebration. Our waiter was well informed but seemed to have an abundance of tables as noted when he said he would be back to discuss the menu and after a wait, we were greeted by another young woman. The food here is delicious and special. Our appetizers of Broccoli and cheddar soup and the Potatoes with truffles were delightful. However, we were disappointed with the lobster entree and the seared fluke. I am used to lobster that I often prepare by steaming that is sweet and juicy,, This roasted lobster with an additional $12.00 charge was not the aforementioned. Rather than that carrot puree, it needed a touch of sweet butter. The fluke which my husband had was not a favorite of his as it was also dry and had a strong fish flavor. We did finish with super desserts - the banana soufflé, which was elegant and delicious, as well as the simple, but yummy, ice cream with chocolate and caramel sauce. The complimentary truffles were lovely as was the amuse-bouche. I think the service that evening was impaired due to the gas outages in other Newport Restaurants that caused an influx of patrons at the Inn. We look forward to returning in the summer and sitting outside to enjoy the great food and the unparalleled view.
Thank you to the exceptional team at Castle Hill for making our engagement dinner so memorable. From the moment we sat down, the team was so accommodating. Some friends had purchased us cocktails and wine to celebrate, and they took note of the occasion and repeatedly congratulated us. We each had the three course menu. I started sweet potato ravioli, and my fiance had the seasonal soup. It was divine! For dinner I had Seared Halibut. It was served with root vegetables in a chowder sauce- again amazing. My fiance had the pheasant and raved about it. For dessert we both had the Coffee Semifreddo and it was heavenly. It was the perfect portion for each course so you felt satisfied but not overly full. Our waitress was extremely attentive throughout. She made a wonderful wine suggestion that paired perfectly with everything we ate. We will definitely be back and hope to make this an annual tradition!
Everything was outstanding. Maybe one of the top two or three meals I have had. Not cheap but reasonable value.;
Great food and service. Seven course prixe fixe menu with great quality. Extensive wine list. Nice atmosphere.
Phenomenal to look at, delicious to taste and worth every penny! Service was wonderful (thank you Caitlin), food over the top, and knowing the view was there even if dark outside (!) made it even special. Castle Hill is incredible and we are locals! From the cocktails to the food with wine pairings, dining here is exceptional. And thank you to the chefs who gave my dairy allergic husband a blood orange soufflé to die for!
A night to remember! A huge thank you to the talented chef and incredible staff who made our night so special. We were celebrating our son’s naval commissioning and chose the Dining Room at Castle Hill Inn based on it’s great reviews. Sometimes high expectations lead to disappointment, but our expectations were exceeded beyond measure. We chose the six course menu option and every course was scrumptious. The wine menu is extensive and setting is truly unique in this beautiful old estate. We hope to return to Newport and will make our dinner reservations here as soon as flights are booked!
Dining at Castle Hill is wonderful. The service is elegant, the food is interesting and delicious. Wine options are extensive. Here and Bouchard are clearly the two best restaurants on the island. We have dined here many times and it always meets those standards. A must place to dine.
Special from beginning to end! We got the 3 course prix fixe with wine pairings which were perfect. Castle Hill has such great character and ambiance. If you’re looking for a special place, this is it!
Fantastic food! Everything about dining here is perfect!
Absolutely amazing food. The service was on point. My husband and I agreed it was well worth the money. Overall fantastic experience!
Other than a somewhat put-upon bartender and the fact that they had neither our first champagne nor wine choices (Neither was a deal-breaker.), this was a perfect meal and a perfect evening. Sweet local oysters with a sea foam mignonette and THE best cod we have ever tasted. Special dietary needs were happily and creatively accommodated. Rounded out with blackberry ginger sorbet and cheese. We didn’t want to leave!
The staff was outstanding and very attentive to our every needs. They knew everything I had mention on the phone when I made the reservations and couldn't be more pleased. I would go in a heartbeat not only for an outstanding meal, but the service.
My best friend and I were celebrating birthdays as well as many years of friendship. The dining room at Castle Hill is second to none in their menu and service. And the view!
We had a wonderful experience at Castle Hill. We had not had dinner there before so took the opportunity to try it during restaurant. It was a great value. The service was excellent and the food fantastic. The only thing I would criticize if pushed was that the coffee wasn’t hot, but overall we had a great evening. Can’t wait to go back!
The attention to detail was superb, in particular the attentiveness to my wife's allergies set a new standard by which all other restaurants will be measured. Thank you!
Excellent menu and execution. We had the Restaurant Week menu, which was a steal compared to the restaurant’s usual, exorbitant prices. Service was superb
Gorgeous venue, delicious food, great service, we enjoyed our anniversary at Castle Hill
It was a perfect evening at Castle Hill. Every course was wonderful. The Celery Root Soup was lovely and light. The Burrata-Radicchio Salad and the Roasted Beets were delicious. We all ordered the beef dish, which was excellent. The beef was so tender and flavorful, and the portions were generous. The chocolate mousse bar was densely chocolatey and rich. The perfect ending to a perfect meal. The service is top-notch. The staff is very attentive and friendly.
Great food and service as always. Very consistent high quality all around.
Great food and view as always. Went on Restaurant week for dinner and it was fabulous as always.
We went to the Castle Hill Inn for their Restaurant Week tasting menu on my birthday. An overall incredible experience with delicious food and drinks, and amazing recommendations by our waiter, Dan, who went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. I highly recommend the Paloma! Delicious!
Unbelievably fantastic dinner. Every course was superb. The staff is beyond reproach. Best date or special occasion dinner on the island.
Wonderful prize fix with wine pairing
But too noisy when room is full
That's my only complaint
Dinner was fenominal. The choices though limited were sufficient to give you enough to chose from. The service made you feel welcome and catered to your every need. It is definitely a wonderful dining experience when in Newport.
Limited menu that tries to hard to be a N.Y. fine dining place. Overcomplicated food is spotty. Great service
An excellent restaurant in every respect. Impeccable service ,with great food and wine .
Outstanding food and service. Superb location. Great hotel
Went to the dining room for dinner on our honeymoon. Our waiter Harrison brought out bubbling Apple cider from Normandy when we first sat down and proceeded to exceed our expectations throughout the rest of our dining experience. Everything brought to the table was amazing from the shrimp cocktail to the chocolate hazelnut bar. Will definitely be back.
It’s a small room so you will hear others conversations and they yours but the food and wine were fantastic.
Did the 6 course tasting some of the dishes were absolutely outstanding and over the top and some were just "good" , but overall amazing and the service/experience was perfect. Thanks.
Castle Hill Inn was exceptional as far as the location, service and food! Our server Harrison was impeccable at best. However, we almost left due to the rude young dining hostess before we even met him, she was condescending, rude and actually made me very upset but I wanted to wait to address her terrible behavior after I returned home from vacation as to not spoil the special occasion that we went there for. I made the reservation way in advance for a special occasion on Open Table and also called three days prior to the reservation to go over small details for it. When we arrived we were given everything except for the details requested in advance, one request was a quiet corner table, we were put next to a crying infant in a car seat that was actually on the floor and told basically too bad by the hostess, she was really a rude little girl. I think Castle Hill is beautiful, the service and chef were completely NYC style and a high level for sure, why they would have these young people running the front entrance as the face of this old beauty is a head scratcher to me!
Very disappointing dinner at the Dining room at Castle Inn. The food was bland and boring, even the oysters. The presentation was not great. We expected a great experience after reading the reviews but this was far from what we call a fine dining occasion. With a limited menu offering you expect nothing but excellence. Our best interaction was with the sommelier.
We have been many times. Castle Hill is our go to place for consistently great food, special occasions and summer lunches on the lawn. Service this time was excellent and so efficient. Food was excellent and has yet to disappoint.
Unfortunately I have to eat gluten and dairy free. While making our reservations I ensured this wasn’t a big deal for the kitchen. They promised it wasn’t and said they’d withhold any offending items off a plate. Unfortunately so much of the food is already prepped with soy sauce or dairy that little to nothing could be withheld. Every single dish on their prix fix menu used gluten or dairy based that were impossible to remove. They knew this-it’s a set menu set days and days before.
Service was impeccable but I was sick the next day. The food wasn’t that great for the trade off. The ambiance is very special.
Sour grapes from me and some of that has to do with dietary restrictions but I also went out of my way to make sure the Relais & Chateau property could accommodate. I wouldn’t have gone if they hadn’t said it wouldn’t be a problem.
