The food and ambiance was nice. However for how costly the food was, our service was lacking. We overheard our waitress mention that it was a slow night, and we were only checked on a couple of times during our visit without proper refills on our water. Our waitress was not welcoming but the host was delightful. Would still come back with hopes of better service.

After numerous great meals at Capitol Cellars in the past, we were very disappointed last week. Not enough staff, food poorly cooked and portions greatly reduced. Prices higher.

As a moderately frequent visitor to Boise, I've eaten here many times. I love the old space, and coziness inside but in the good weather its a very nice patio. The food is decent, and the bathrooms are standouts!

It was really loud, but there were prom/graduations or something, so they were really packed and everyone was tipsy. I imagine it was be a very good level if it wasn't those groups there. Food was really good, a tad expensive for what you got. Good portions, good staff. Walked out very happy. The theme is really fun, got our check delivered in the bill of rights.

Capitol CellarsResponded on May 12, 2023Hey Marcus! Thanks so much for your great review. Yes, it was pretty energetic in the building that night. Quite a few BSU grad parties were out celebrating! We're so glad you enjoyed your experience with us and we were very happy to serve you. Hope to see you again soon! This was a celebration of my wife's and my 20th wedding anniversary. We had such a wonderful time. Our servers, Jack and Liz, made our dinner that much more special. Also, the cocktails provided by Louise were outstanding. Capitol Cellars is our favorite place to dine in Boise!

This was the third time we have been and it might be the last. The service is rough and the food is just so-so…hit and miss. The value is decent but only bc we are from Seattle and this restaurant is in Boise. Haha. They have good cocktails, salads are small and over priced. Mains are so-so….burger is filling and well-cooked, but chicken was dry and small for the price.

Our reservation was for 4:00 PM. When making the reservation, we weren’t aware that steaks and Prime Rib aren’t available until after 5:00PM. Our server gave me a generous pour of wine to try and compensate for the lack of steak availability. Service was great. The manager had a staff meeting with the servers near the front door/service area within our view and earshot which negatively impacted the ambiance. The food we had was very good although we would have liked a steak.

What a charming restaurant, inside and out! Best patio in Boise! The menu was creative and tasteful, exceptional wine and cocktail menu, service was top notch. I read others’ reviews before dining. Let’s be real-restaurants’ food costs have increased, therefore menu prices have to increase too…Inflation. So, let’s be a little more understanding in this day and age. I thought prices were fair, especially compared to other restaurants in downtown, Boise. A dining experience at Capitol Cellars is unique and exceptional. I look forward to my next time here!

The food is exceptionally good, portions aren’t large but are perfect size (a plus for me). The prices are fair for the quality you get! The service was attentive and professional and great. The restaurant is beautiful and cozy and I do enjoy it. However, it was so loud I could hardly hear my family across the table. I find that to be a deterrent unfortunately. Not sure how this could be changed and seems a pervasive problem everywhere nowadays.

We were in and out in an hour and 15 minutes. Two glasses of wine, Pinot noir$14 each, and a Manhattan $15 to start. I'd ordered soup along with the tuna special $38. My wife got the petite prime rib $38. I had to ask for the soup after my meal had arrived because it wasn't sent out. So just a slight delay in service and timing. The tuna was perfectly seared and was a different, but very good sauce and prep than I have ever had before. My wife said her prime rib was good, but needed the horseradish, which was nice and strong, to help add some flavor to the meat. We finished with a vanilla creme brulee $10.43, that was good. Will we go back, yes, this was our second time in a week as we stopped in for lunch. My bill was $150 after taxes.

Capitol CellarsResponded on April 28, 2023Thanks so much for joining us! Sorry to hear about the delay in your soup service, but happy to hear everything else went well! Looking forward to seeing you again soon!

We had a wonderful visit to Capitol Cellars in October. This follow-up visit was a completely different story! The restaurant must be under new management or something. I can't believe the quality has fallen off like this in such a short period of time. We were seated at a 2 top were one chair was half into the walkway to the back room. Our reservation was at 5:30pm. After sitting down and receiving water we waited 12 minutes for the waitress to take a drink order. I walked up to the host stand where the wait staff was congregated to order a bottle of wine. I had to ask about specials that were not on the menu. Caesar salad was very dry almost no dressing. The prime rib was mediocre at best. Again, this was a completely different experience from our prior visit.

We loved it! The downstairs space is very cozy and we were sitting near a small space heater so we didn’t get cold at all. The Brussels were good, the lamb chops were absolutely brilliant! We ordered a Sangiovese wine which was very passable for the price. Our waitress seemed to be a little less knowledgeable about the wine menu than we would have wished but she was otherwise very good.

My husband and I were traveling from out of town. The last reservation we could get was 8:45 so we made an 8:30 reservation that evening after we checked into our hotel. The only thing we thought was good was our Brussels that we ordered as an appetizer. My French onion soup was room temperature, our drinks were mediocre, and my salmon was average. My husband’s burger was well done when he requested medium/rare we sent it back and it came back medium/well. Our service was even worse. Our waitress, Mia, wasn’t thrilled to be there or serve us. Never checked on us, and had to get another employee’s help with sending back my husband’s burger. So disappointing. We won’t be back.

We liked this restaurant but I can’t say we loved it. It was really loud the entire time we were there. Our waitress was ok but not what I expect in a fine dining restaurant. They were out of lamb chops and were offering lamb shanks instead so my husband ordered the ravioli and it was ok but had entirely too much sauce and the portion was rather small for the price.

Even after changing to a preset menu for Valentines Day, they overbooked and underperformed across the board. The food was horrible, service almost nonexistent and way overpriced. We had reservations at 6:30 - booked months in advance and ended up leaving without dessert 2 hours later. No one at the restaurant communicated with us or apologized for anything which I believe a good restaurant would do as it was clear we weren’t the only one’s disappointed.
