it is our tradition to eat lunch at capital city grill before seeing the Nutcracker every December. it never disappoints! they have a child-friendly menu and great atmosphere--not to mention a pretty christmas tree to admire while waiting.

Great place to have a business meal in the heart of downtown Baton Rouge! Love the food and professional service.
Excellent service. Thanks to Will M for the special attention.
Possibly just an inexperienced wait staff, but there was lots of room for improvement. Our waiter brought me a red wine instead of the prosecco I requested and wasn’t attentive to everyone’s drink refills. We were a party of 8 and our entrees were delivered in 3 different stages and one persons soup never came. Mostly everyone enjoyed their food but the filet mignon was flavorless and undercooked on one of our salads.
I hope this was just a bad night. The server seemed to be distracted at best. The food was cold and not prepared consistent even for our table. We all ordered the gumbo. One had a lot of rice, two had a little bit of rice, and the fourth had no rice.
Pleasant Sunday brunch, friendly service, very good food, love the beignets!!!
Food was great and the service was good!
We eaten here on LSU game days then ride Touchdown Express.
I enjoyed the food. The service was good and friendly.
Food and service were good. We went for brunch on Sunday and I was happy to see that in addition to the brunch menu, the full menu was available. My only complaint is that the noise level is high. We were a table of six and you couldn't talk with people on the opposite end of the table because the noise was so loud.
Had reservations for 6 on Open Table and it only said 2. I noticed and thought I edited it but apparently not so 6 of us were shoved in a booth. We were seated at 616 and informed them we had a show to go to at 730 nearby. Cocktails were served in wine glasses and coffee cup saucers were used for appetizers, not eclectic but apparently the dishwasher did not show nor did the cook. Had salads at 715 and entree never arrived so we left to catch our show.
Good food, service, prices. Good choice prior to downtown events!
I NEVER do these reviews but I felt I had to for this experience. Ordered the Catfish Orleans, big mistake. This was the first time EVER ordering a catfish dish in the state of Louisiana and I got slithers of fish served to me that might have amounted to a third of a fillet. I paid $19 for what look like .50 cent worth of grits and maybe .75 cent worth of fish. I really felt ripped off. When I complained the waitress said she would see what she could do. She came back with a 10% off ticket I could use for my next visit to this restaurant . My wife and I were dining with another couple and their food was not good either. Three out of the four of us did not enjoy this experience. I will not return nor would I recommend this place.
Aside from the power going out and the fire alarm going off it was brunch as usual. The food was good and appropriately priced. The acoustics in this restaurant are terrible. If you are looking for a place to have a conversation while you dine this is not the place.
It took 15 minutes to get a drink on the initial order. We ordered two appetizers (crab cakes and spinach queso and salsa). It took about 20 minutes to get the appetizers. The crab cakes were OK, not great, but not bad. The queso arrived on one plate but two separate shallow dishes. About 1/3rd of the queso was spilled into the salsa dish. The queso was almost liquid and was COLD. Not cool, COLD as if it was just taken out of a the fridge. We sent the salsa and queso back. About 10 minutes later we received a replacement dish. The queso was now warm but still very runny. The salsa had chunks of tomato that were about 1/2 the size of a chip as if they were taken out of a can of tomatoes. We ate what we could of the salsa and queso, paid our bill, and left. The server was nice but he had to apologize at least 5 times for the time it took to bring our food and drinks and for the quality of the food we received. We had 1 beer, 2 glasses of wine, crab cakes, and the aforementioned queso and salsa. Our bill was just under $60 not including Tip. Poor Food, Poor Service, and overpriced food. In my opinion, this is not a good formula for success.
Food was okay. Drinks too expensive for a small glass
Great place in BR to have a meal while catching up with a friend I hadn’t seen in years
Convenient to the Hilton
Our waiter was eager but to much so. He didn't give us ample time to casual look at the menu. There were only three tables seated so the place was not busy. I ordered the fried green tomatoes with crab meat, the waiter came back after placing the order to let me know the restaurant had no crab. Huh? There were many items that required crab and to run out seemed silly. Our waiter also forgot who ordered what and kept switching drinks and plates. Another table was set while we were there and it was a big party. One might think to set them away from most people but they didn't. My friend and I had a difficult time just holding a conversation. One positive about the restaurant is it's location. Customer service just needs polishing.
We ate at CCG on July 4th. Our entrees were served before the appetizer arrived. I ordered shrimp and grits, but, despite being served before the appetizer, the entrée was not hot. It seemed like it had been sitting for at least 10 minutes after being plated before it got to the table. The waiter was pleasant and unobtrusive.
It was very good but I think our server was new and he was slow
Brandon our server was amazing.
Celebrated a birthday with a party of 9, very accommodating.
Great happy hour. We came during a transition time so honestly the table service was poor, but half our party migrated to the bar where the service was much better. Any other issues we had were quickly resolved and the food was good. Catfish sliders were great.
Food was good. Shrimp was best dish. Not really busy so service was good.
Food quality has gone down since my last visit a few years ago. Some food was served barely warm not hot. One dish was very fishy. Waiter was very nice!
The food was excellent. The natural light coming into the restaurant is very nice.
Enjoyed our dinner the food was excellent and the service was aboveboard. Will eat here again on our next visit to Baton Rouge
Great! As usual
It took a long time to get a drink from the bar and they messed up some of our orders. We were trying to make a concert, and was able to get there a little after is started. Overall decent experience.
Overall the food was good but I ordered my burger medium well and the middle was very pink.
Food was good, service was great, and this is an outstanding location when attending downtown events. We will be back!
Found the food to not be good. Had a side salad and the grilled shrimp. The shrimp were over cooked and rather small. The noise level was high making it difficult to easily converse with everyone at the table. Would not personally recommend an individual dine here.
Thought the atmosphere was good and not too loud
It was a Valentine’s Day nightmare dinner. When we arrived I showed the waiter our buy one get one appetizer coupon from the 5 Star app. He went and asked to make sure we could use it. We ordered two appetizers and then the 12oz ribeye to split medium well . It came out rare with blood literally dripping all over the mashed potatoes. He took it back and it was over cooked but we didn’t say anything and ate it. We then asked for the bill. He came and said that they didn’t know how to apply the coupon so the manager walked over and I’m new to Fivestar and the coupon wouldn’t come back up so the manager basically called me a liar saying they don’t even offer that coupon it’s buy one appetizer get one half off . So I had to be wrong well okay . So then after he left I finally figured out how to get the coupon back . So I called him back over and showed him the coupon at this time he asks for my debit card which he had never given back to me. My husband was in the restroom and I told him that he never gave me my credit card back which again he acted like I was lying and said he did give it to me. I told him no I’m sorry but I’m wearing a dress and I have no pockets . So then he leaves again then returns with my credit card . Then I’m looking at the bill and notice the waiter has charged us for a salad that came with the entree so I called him back over and he took it off. He did say he was giving us a be our guest coupon to return and the meal would be on him then when we left I looked at the gift it was for only $30 . Which I believe since they totally ruined our Valentines dinner he should have compt our whole dinner right then and there plus given us something to return. Thirty dollars will not even cover the steak we got our bill was $60 so if we wouldn’t have had the coupon our meal would have been about $75. So what is $30 going to do not sure I ever want to go back anyways !! I wish I would have took a picture of the bloody plate and steak it was awful!! 😳😭
My family of four had reservations and we were seated upon arrival. Antoine our waiter seemed new, but he didn’t disappoint. He kept our glasses full and constantly made sure our table was good.
My husband and I enjoyed our dinner before we attended a production of The Wizard of Oz. We were quickly seated. The server was attentive. We had a side of bread for our appetizer. It was crusty on the outside and deliciously soft on the inside. My husband had a ribeye that was cooked to a perfect medium along with a side of garlic mashed potatoes. I had the Fish and Tails entree. It was scrumptious! The fish filet was lightly battered. The homemade cheese grits were good. The tasso and andouille cream sauce with fried crawfish tails served over the fish filet and grits was yummy. I am really glad I took our waiter’s recommendation for my dinner selection. The only thing my husband and I wished would have been different was the noise level. It was loud. It was hard to have a quiet conversation. However, we will go back again because of the great food and convenience to downtown attractions, and hopefully, we will have a less noisy experience.
This is the 4th time I've been to Capital City Grill. And the 4th time I've been disappointed.
Let me be clear-- the front of the house could not have been nicer, attentive, and concerned. They demonstrated a desire to please. The problem is food out of the kitchen. All 4 times I've eaten there, it takes about 30-45 minutes to get served food. The kitchen must be understaffed. The last time I was there, we were told it was slow because it of the theater. The other 3 times were other excuses-- its lunch time, theater, etc. This is a management problem-- the kitchen is understaffed.
The food was average. The people are nice. The location is good.
Its just the service out of the kitchen that I'm basing my rating on.
The food was average for the area. Drinks were not well executed (mostly simple syrup and juice). The service left much to be desired.
Our waiter was not attentive and service was slow despite the restaurant being half empty. For an evening out choose another resturaunt.
the food was ok, but the kitchen was slow, they forgot one of the order. Easy place before concerts, but kind of noisy.
