Cafe Champagne Restaurant - Thornton Winery
Poor service. Cold food. Bland and over priced food.
We celebrated Valentines Day and my husbands birthday this weekend. This was our first trip to the Wine Country. Champagne Cafe was our first stop on our trip.
Dinner was spectacular. Service was good.
As can be expected there was a full house and we sat in the outdoor dining area.. It was a little cold . Maybe some heaters and little music would have enticed the ambiance a bit more.. there was a violinist playing inside the restaurant... So a little music outside would have been nice.
Besides that everything was great. There was a preset menu which lead to easy ordering and a quick turn around. My husband discovered a refreshing beer which is now his favorite and I enjoyed a couple glasses of Rose Brut.. Delicious!!
Amazing food and service for a very busy night
Great service and dinner the champagne was wonderful
A violinist serenaded us during our dessert it made our time more romantic and special
We enjoyed the restaurant and we had a wonderful Valentine’s Day and 30th Anniversary
A+ Experience! Food ,Wine, Service, Atmosphere, Live Music all excellent.
Never disappointed when we go here. It’s the best!
The restaurant closes at 7pm, so dinner is really not much of an option. We did not know that, had 6:30 reservations. While the waitress tried not to rush us, it was still a fairly rushed meal as we had to order before the kitchen closed at 7. Not a relaxing meal. Food was just ok.
Wine pick up weekend
Food was really good. However, greatly overpriced! Family of 4 with 2 kids meals was over $200. The kids meals are $14 each. Very expensive! Normally a kids meal is $5-$8. And there was nothing overly spectacular or fancy about them. Basic burger and fries. Granted their target audience is probably not families with young kids, but that’s the majority population of Temecula.
Service was subpar. Although our waitress was cordial... she was very rushed. We witnessed her almost running to each of her tables. You could tell she was overworked and short handed. We had to ask for silverware and napkins. We had to ask for the table bread, as we were not given any and we saw all the tables around us with some. We had to request drink rills twice for our kids. And we had to ask for our plates to be cleared.
I had the steak and my husband had a flatbread… Both were good and well prepared. But not worth the price. Thankfully we had a gift card that covered most of our bill.
Service was awful. Ambiance was awful. Food was ok but overpriced.
Best of ev5
The service, quality of food, and flavor were excellent.
I went in with very high expectations for the pan seared bass and was very disappointed. The bass, if it was bass was over cooked, the gnocchi was a doughy mess. A total waste.
Perfect for a casual but special lunch with my wife for no good reason. Highly recommend.
The service and wines were nice. The food was mediocre and for the price not worth it. For this reason I would not return for the dining, but I would return for the tasting room.
Scott was our main server and he was very attentive and helpful.
A lovely stop in the Temecula wine country. Champagnes were very nice as was the food- regrettable that they allowed small kids and dogs to run around and bother other diners.
Love Thornton’s good food, great service , a great place to spend with friends, what more can you ask for!
We had a nice New Year's Eve dinner at Cafe Champage. I was glad to see a little re-model had taken place since our last visit. That cabbage rose wallpaper was so out of date! I did think it a little odd that we were seated on the patio instead of the dining room?? However the patio was warm and the twinkle lights festive.
My lobster ravioli was luke-warm, but flavorful. The house salad was very good. My fellow diners had the short rib, and the sword fish dinners that they enjoyed. We selected lava cake and black and white mousse for dessert. These old favorites were quite good.
We would have enjoyed a little live music with our dinner. I think in the past a harpist performed. All in all, not a rave review, but if a nice, quiet dinner is required, this fills the bill.
Great food at a reasonable price. We were there for NYE, staff was very upbeat and attentive. A hidden gem if u haven’t been there.
We had reservations for NY Eve dinner. We ordered the short rib dinner and the spaghetti with lamb meatballs. The short ribs were tender and moist and the plated piled high with fried onions. The lamb meatballs were dry and tasted like they had just been rewarmed. The bread did not come out until after the salads were served even though we were just one of 6 tables that were seated at the time. I think we will come back for lunch.
This was a very nice place. Great experience and wonderful start to the New Years
I would go again and will and would recommend
The wine was awesome and great price for five star place
Tanya was excellent at seating us early. Jason our server was attentive and very personable. The food was excellent. I thought the prices were a little high, but the quality and quantity of the food and the atmosphere made it worth the price. Definitely going back.
Delicious baked brie, but they don't serve it with any bread or crackers. When we asked for the bread, Rickie (Richie?) said he could charge us for some. We spent almost $200 on food/drinks and they're going to charge for something with which to actually eat the appetizer? I was shocked. They didn't charge us. Seems like something that should come standard with the brie as it melts all over. Good ambiance, a bit noisy and slow to take our order. Will be back for the brie but I may as well just bring my own bread so I don't get hassled for it.
Great for food & wine pairing
Hamburger raw, when requested medium; flatbread extremely greasy; and woman brought a large dog in the restaurant who ate off her table. Disgusting and unsanitary. Extremely disappointed and will never return.
Christmas Eve dinner and service was exemplary, food perfectly prepared and presented. Great experience all around
The food was great and very tasty. I loved the service which is a great plus. My daughter got sick from food, but it was not her food it is her medical condition. They actually remade the plate and gave her other items that she could eat! They did this and did not charge extra which is great. This made our experience there a great experience. Will go again for sure.
Steak was under cooked. Meal was average. It seems like this place has lost its edge. It used to be 5 stars. Maybe all the competition at other wineries has had a impact..
Always great service and wonderful food!
First off our waiter Scott made our 3 hour date memorable! The Seabass with gnocchis was to die for!
Always a good time, excellent service, delicious food.
Scott, our server, was amazing! First time trying wine and dinning and I loved it. Definitely have been recommending this place to EVERYONE. Will be back soon!!! THANK U SCOTT & REST OF STAFF.
1st time visitor. Very pleasant experience. Food ,service and atmosphere were all worthy of 4 stars!
Scott was very attentive and helpful. We had a great dinner and the soft background music allowed for a nice dinner conversation without having to yell over loud music
The food was horrible. Over price. I had the lobster sandwich which was very bad. The only good about this restaurant was the service.
Stopped on our way home for some goat cheese and the big yummy cheese plate. Such a yummy treat. We felt a little ignored on this visit. Refills of drinks would have been nice, but I guess is youre not drinking alcohol you are not priority.
We sat outside. They were setting up for a concert and some of the noise coming out of the speakers was just awful. Four of us with only one flight of wine was over $220 for lunch. We reduced it by joining the wine club. Their reds are nice (considering Temecula wines are not yet on par with other CA regions). Ever though we were told they are known for their champagne, I didn’t like any of the four that came with the second flight of wines that they gave us after we joined the wine club.
The heirloom tomato avocado appetizer was to die for and we had to bread pudding for dessert and that was yummy. The French dip sandwich was just OK
We had a great time. Food was delicious. The wine was outstanding.
