Bonny and Read Fresh Seafood and Steaks
Terrific server. Outstanding food. Wine served at warmer than room temperature was sole detractor. Four stars overall!
this is the second visit in a row here where the fish was overcooked and dry ( halibut) ; a friend had the salmon - also dry
the shrimp cocktail was 3 tiny shrimp w a cocktail sauce red hot spicy
lobster corn chowder - watery, and very light on the lobster
overall - this restaurant should not bill themselves as a seafood restaurant until they better learn how to prepare seafood
The food was very tasty! The $15 appetizer was super tiny! But the rest of the food came out in great portions.
For 20% added gratuity I would have liked a little bit better service but it was a fun night out.
Bonny and Read is fresh, quality seafood in a comfortable setting with fast, courteous, professional service. We enjoyed our dining experience.
On vacation, booked this in advance because menu looked great. Arrived and waitress told us seafood delivery didn’t get there that day, July 5. No fresh seafood (likely 2 days old since probably closed July 4th, not sure though) at a Seafood place? That cut out more than half the menu options. Had a salad and steak instead. Average food. Overall, an underwhelming experience.
Really nice time. Staff is super friendly and we got a 10% off our next visit. Desert options were awesome and had much to choose from even if one has lacrosse sensitiveties
Bonny and Read Fresh Seafood and Steaks has great atmosphere, it's very clean, with outstanding service, and the food tasted really good, however, the lobster roll was very small for the price, (of course this is not the east coast so it may not be fair to compare them to the east coast), but the lobster roll was half a lobster roll. The fried oysters was mostly breading. The fried clams must have been pieces of oysters, not whole oysters or maybe they were very tiny oysters. If you like breading then it was very good, but it will be a disappointment if you like oysters. The salad was fresh and very good.
I loved it! It took a little bit for the waiter to come to us but after he did the first time there was no more problems. For Colorado the seafood was reasonably priced and tasted fantastic. Also there in house drinks were fantastic. I will definitely be returning.
Portions were too small for the price. Service was okay.
Second time here -- first time was just after their opening. Service in the dining room was very good. Our server was friendly and had some great suggestions along the way. The food was delicious -- the shrimp and scallop ceviche, and clam chowder were great dishes to start off the meal. Our main dishes were prepared perfectly and were quite tasty. The only downside was in the bar area, which wasn't all that impressive during our first trip. The bartenders (still) weren't very attentive and the bar was messy. For example, after eventually clearing a dirty dish that was on the bar when we arrived, the bartender moved it to the ledge by the liquor bottles where it sat for at least the 20 minutes we were up at the bar -- so much for the nice presentation of a pretty impressive bottle collection.
I took my wife to Bonnie and Reads for her birthday and we loved it! She had the whole lobster, got a free dessert, and we had a couple glasses of house wine during happy hour -- delicious and economical!
My new favorite place! I have been twice recently and was very happy with the fresh food and great atmosphere.
This was our first visit to Bonnie & Read and we hope to dine here on our next visit. It was the best meal that we had while in Colorado Springs. Located in the downtown area, parking can be a bit tricky to find, but it is worth the effort. We had the scallops, halibut, and nightly surf and turf. All were excellent. Loved the grits on the scallop dish and they were cooked to perfection. The halibut and surf and turf were also excellent. We thought the prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food served. Service was very good. A gem.
Soup and oysters were good. Lobster was spongy, may of been over cooked. Waiter did not return to see how our food was nor if we wanted more water or another drink. Had to ask someone else for our bill. When he did bring it to us he said nothing. It was like a fly by dropping off on the table. Was really excited for our dinner since there were a lot of good reviews. Very disappointed for my husband birthday dinner.
Best steak I have had since the last time at Bonny and Read! Chef Josh is fantastic!
Service was prompt and courteous. Seafood was so fresh and delicious! We will definitely be returning.
We enjoy Bonny and Read. We especially like the Seafood Tower off the raw bar. The Tower along with an appetizer or two is perfect for 4 people. It comes with raw oysters, lobster, king crab legs, and shrimp along with various sauces, butter, and lemon.
Bonny and Read is one of our most favorite restaurants. Great food and drink. Reasonable prices.
The food was amazing! Lobster Corn Chowder is a must order!
Food was delicious and a good price. We did have to summon a waiter/waitress a few times in order to get additional things (ketchup, bread, coffee, etc). Also, for a steak/seafood restaurant, to not have bread included in your meal seems off. We had to pay $2 for 3 slices of toasted french bread. The $2 wasn't the issue, but most steak/seafood restaurants provide bread. Overall, it was a good place for dinner especially compared to other steak restaurants in the area.
I was very please with the atmosphere, food and service.
Wait staff was very polite and service prompt. Would recommend totally.
Nice seafood menu with plenty of options. Service was outstanding. There are great options on the menu for those who do not like seafood as well.
Finally visited for my birthday and was completely delighted!
Love the food as always and is convenient to downtown activities however for the first time, we had poor service. Our gal was not attentive to our needs: drinks were wrong and took too long, never filled water glasses...Most visits we have had EXCELLENT service. Their lobster rolls are THE BEST!
Food was so so
All members of our group enjoyed their meals. The food was plated beautifully and had delightful textures and flavors. Thanks for a wonderful dining experience.
Outstanding prompt service and a knowledge waiter made our dining experience very enjoyable. The oysters on the half shell were absolutely delicious! I could have made a dinner with just the oysters! The stuffed lobster tail was tasty. However, a little less stuffing would be better and it was a bit dry. All in all, for a first visit, we will return.
The food is simply prepared and the seafood was fresh.
Pro Tip: When making a reservation ask for a booth away from the kitchen. Should you be offered the booth immediately adjacent to the kitchen - refuse it. For us, the swinging kitchen door banging into the wall behind the booth seat was incredibly unpleasant and detracted immeasurably from the entire experience.
We celebrated a birthday with an early dinner at Bonny & Read. All the food was delicious. The beet salad was enough for two, and the fish and chips appetizer was in small breaded chunks suitable for sharing and came with a yummy tartar sauce. Our meal of mussels, king crab, & lobster tail was wonderful, especially considering we're nowhere near an ocean. Our server Matt was great - - - knowledgeable, attentive, and helpful in adjusting the menu to fit our needs. We will definitely go back and will bring friends!
Second time at B&R, and it was as good as it was the first time. Great oysters, mussels, halibut... even the spinach salad with fried goat cheese was awesome. Good whisky and beer too
This place is fantastic! We tried it for the first time and will definitely be back. Our waiter was extremely nice and gave us great pointers on what to order.
Delicious food and excellent service. The restaurant was attractively decorated and since we had a table by the sidewalk, it was interesting to watch the people going by. The seafood corn chowder was excellent as was the cod entree. Our waiter was helpful and very prompt. We are older, so we shared a meal, and there was no extra charge. The booths are very nice for privacy and for older people. The remainder of the tables are high with the higher chairs, so might not be as easy for older people to get into. It is a good idea to have a reservation and request a booth unless you like the higher tables, as kids often do.
Some hits and some misses. Very good salads and starters and tasty but not memorable salmon. Wines very fairly priced. Service was good at the start but then our server essentially disappeared.
Doesn't look great from the outside, but very pleasant inside. Food was really good, but scallops dish was very small for $30. Cioppino was excellent. Waitress was excellent.
Food was boring but the service was lovely.
Food and service were excellent - can't say enough about the food: appetizers, main courses and dessert (split among 4). Really happy with our experience.
Only hiccup was that upon arriving we were initially brought to a high top table. I had had my knee replaced 9 weeks ago and i asked the hostess if we could sit at a table because of my knee issue. She said that I should have requested a table on my reservation - and the only tables available were for six people. Fortunately - there was a 4 top table in the bar area and that worked out perfectly.
Again - we had a great meal and outing.
Exceptional experience that is priced very reasonable for the quality of food. The seafood is exceptionally fresh and the steak is cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this for the local foodies or for the special date night.
Food was amazing and desserts are delicious!
One of the best options for seafood in the Springs. The food and the service are always terrific. We had the halibut, with a shrimp appetizer. It was fresh and delicious.
