Practically perfect in every way. I lovr coming up and trying new things.
Got to Blades in time, spent about 5 minutes waiting for the hostess to notice us; once we were seated, our server Tony did a solid job of keeping our glasses full and was very attentive.
The Oysters Rockefeller was perfectly seasoned served at the right temp and delicious. As were the mignon, and the ribeye.
The downside: the dining room was packed and as more people arrived it became very noisy—also, the tables were so close together I kept waiting for a spill: either from the food being carried by a person, or a guest falling :(
Still, we will return, so we can dine alfresco!
The server was great. The person seating clients took quite a while to find a number of us waiting in line for our reservations, but hey the food was good and well prepared. The eating area is wide open and got rather hectic when they were full. Book a “booth” in advance to avoid this issue.
The staff and owner were very accommodating when my wife and i asked to have a minor change in table arrangements, but when table proved very wobbly, both the waiter and owner handled our silverware and glasses after having their hands on the floor.
The pepper steak was rather bland but both our steaks were grilled perfectly. The grilled veggies were also rather bland. Not our best experience at Blades but perhaps it just an off night.
Best chicken Cordon Bleu, EVER! Blades is a consistently wonderful restaurant. The food is done in a classic style and always satisfies.
This is a must-try restaurant! The owners and staff are friendly and welcoming. The food never disappoints - it's consistent and perfectly prepared every time. The Chef's Counter is a great way to see the chef and his staff in action.
Really comfortable atmosphere, very friendly hostess and wait staff, everyone enjoyed their dinners and I especially enjoyed the sautéed chicken livers which is a hard item to find in NM.
We went to hear Jeez La Weez and were very surprised to find such a lovely patio and delicious food. Yes, our waiter/waitress was very on top of our needs and friendly. The only thing that was a bit distracting was the clean up folks were kind of annoying when the band hadn't even finished playing. Other than that we had a wonderful and relaxing time dining out. Thank You.
Highly recommend. Food is excellent & nice menu choices
After a zillion visits, Blades has never once let me down. Thanks!
Too bad it used to seem better. Second or third rate fish.
We sat outside to listen to the music
Very nice cocktail and wine selection. We were impressed to see that they use Riedel Stemware. Entrees were good. It's a little noisy indoors. Next time we'll try the outdoor seating.
Casual atmosphere with delicious upscale menu and friendly service. Great outdoor patio, weather permitting (which, in New Mexico, is almost always the case!).
Blades' is a gem for this area! We celebrated 36 years of love here, and they did not disappoint! Asked for a private as possible table, and they were good enough to accommodate us. Most restuarants don't read the special requests on the open table site. We enjoyed the onion soup, crab cakes, & brussel sprouts appetizers, spot on and delicious! Martini selection great, wines selections perfect, entrees are great, I had duck breast special and enjoyed the flavours very much! Great vibe, live jazz was a plus, very nice owners, you can't go wrong with this lovely restaurant!!
Staff and owners are amazing. They go above and beyond to make every moment special. Food is great as well.
This is one of my favorites in Albuquerque; well worth the drive. Every meal I've ever had there was absolutely delicious. Kevin, the chef/owner is a master! His wife, Anja, is a terrific hostess. Our whole family feels so treated when we dine here. An absolute gem!
We discovered Blades' Bistro over two years ago and have enjoyed the drive, the sunsets and the food. It would be nice to see the menu change every so often as it has remained the same. We were there on a Saturday evening and the place was half empty. Could it be the locals have gotten tired of the same menu?
Always love Blades, I don't go there nearly enough!
Great food. Great place. If you can get it . . . sit at the chef's bar where you can watch Chef and staff cook your meal.
Service was seriously lacking. Our seating was faced to a blinding sun on the patio (we did request the patio) but our seats were poorly positioned for the time of day. Many alternative seats in the shade were open the whole time we were there. The seats of the chairs were extremely uncomfortable due to zero cushions (all the other chairs had cushions.) Even though our reservation said this was a special occasion, there was nothing special about our seating or anything else. In fact, it was as if we were second class due to only being 2 people. It was obvious that we would have been given better treatment if we were a larger group. It took a long time to get cooperation from the staff to seat us at a different table even though there were very few customers.
Hubby had the Bistro salad, and complained that the salads that I made were better. I tasted the salmon and it was WAY overcooked. I had the special salmon entree (hot dish) and my salmon was perfectly cooked. However, the sides were almost stone cold. It had potatoes on the side that were lumpy but could have been better with some melted butter. The butter would not have melted however, they were so cold. The vegetable side dish was stone cold. This told me that the wait staff was slow on picking up the plate(s). In fact, there were almost fewer customers than wait staff, and yet, the service was slow.
Considering the price, while not super expensive, I felt we should have been better served. I'll cook my own birthday dinner next time.
The food and service at Blade's Bistro has never failed to be outstanding over the nine years of my meals there. I believe it's a chef owned restaurant. A friend, a date a group- doesn't matter. It is eternally excellent.
The biggest disappointment (?) was that we drove in from Corrales and to avoid being late we arrived there earlier than our reservations. Even though there were lots of empty tables, they insisted on waiting on the reservation time before they would seat us. Didn't make any sense that we had to just stand around and wait.
We always enjoy going to Blades especially when there is a group playing on the patio.
However, I ordered the Dover Sole and it wasn't very good that evening. Too lemony and just tiny pieces.
I asked for pasta instead of potatoes and the pasta they served me was just plain. They could have added some butter sauce, parmesan cheese or garlic to it to make it more tasty. Potatoes and dover sole just didn't sound very good together. My partner had the House pasta which he always has and the shrimp were beautiful.
I just won't order the Sole again.
The service was excellent...very friendly and tried to please since the sun was in our face for the first part of the evening.
6 of us ate at Blades. Every enjoyed enjoyed their meals and being together. The service was very good and attentive.
Very loud, also very warm. Need refrigerated air conditioning.
Food was very good as well as the cocktails
We enjoyed the food. Preparation was excellent. Service was good but it was crowded and they could have used another server. The carbonation in the beer tap was out as was the espresso machine. Not anyone’s fault but detracted from the experience we chose to dine outside on the patio because it was very noisy inside. There was a jazz/blues band playing that evening and we had a hard time having a conversation. We’ve eaten here before and enjoyed dining during the week. I think if we avoid weekends we’ll enjoy the experience again
Great get together with friends -- they were able to accommodate a table for 7. Also made arrangements for gluten free entrees. Everything was very tasty!
Food and service are outstanding! We love to spend an evening here, and love catching live music on their patio.
This cozy spot is noisy though. They do have two booths that are a little easier on the ears, so when you make your reservation, ask for a booth for a more intimate feel.
What a GEM we have in Blades. We are fortunate to have such high quality, fine dining right here at home.
Place seemed very chaotic when we arrived (Saturday evening in July). Reservation was for 7:15. We arrived at 7:17 and were seated at 7:30. No one visited our table for nearly 15 min. Once we ordered drinks, it took more than 15 min to get them. Server said she'd be "right back with bread." Bread arrived another 15 min later. When we asked the busser for another drink, she told us, "You'll have to order that from your server." Server lucked out as I had only large bills. Hence received a 18% tip. 10% was what I intended to leave. She also tried to clear away my entree plate while my date was still eating her dinner. A total "no no" the last time I checked the server's handbook. All that being said, we loved our patio table and the food was super delish. We might come back...on a week night, as they obviously dive into panic mode when the place is busy.
Th food was excellent as usual, service great, and thank you for the live music!
Great, food, service and music!
Started out with Limoncello which was excellent! If you like chicken livers, they are worth getting! Absolutely melted in your mouth tender and in a wonderfully tasty sauce. Will definitely be going back!
The food was excellent. The service was good; however it was really noisy. Otherwise we had a great experience.
Amazing food, will definitely be back when we are in the area again!
Great meal! Lamb shank and steak au poire on point!
Excellent food as always. We no longer live in Placitas, but when we are there we try to fit in a meal at Blades. It is a great option if you appreciate truly FINE dining and are tired of the ubiquitous "New" Mexican palate-burning "everything's better with chile" fare. Our waiter could have used more training--he forgot our request for a second glass of wine and came to take our plates by reaching across our table--essentially presenting us with the other dirty plates he was carrying. Maybe I'm overly sensitive, but seeing someone else's dirty plate brought to my table was a turn-off. I guess if he did it behind my back, I wouldn't have even noticed. I wish Blades would add some sound dampening--it is a very live room that makes quiet conversation impossible. The mood lighting is nice--just wish the sound was as soothing. My husband raved about the lamb shank and I thoroughly enjoyed the sole meuniere and delicious grilled vegetables. We've had the roasted beets with goat cheese as an appetizer on a previous visit (maybe with blue cheese) and enjoyed it again this time.
Nice evening with friends out on the patio. It had rained so they had room for us under the portal. Good food and good service.
Amazing as always great restaurant if there is just 2 of you try sitting at the bar at kitchen. Chef is good company
