I wish there was an option for six stars I would have rated it six stars, excellent...!
Found Bistro Barbes a bit by accident a couple of months ago and decided to return for their Valentine’s tasting menu with wine pairing. The food was once again delicious, with fresh and unique dishes. The wine pairings were spot on, and the staff here is wonderful. I’m always nervous when I have a great first time experience that it was “beginner’s luck”, but Bistro Barbes secures a place in my roster of regular joints to visit with this second outing. I would rate this as one of the best restaurants in Denver, made even more special by their off the beaten path location and small, intimate dining room. Go now, before the rest of the city books it first.
This is a tough review, I'm not sure what Barbes wants to be. Having spent two weeks in Paris and Bordeaux a month ago, I was excited to visit this restaurant, but left a little disappointed. The mark-up on wine was exorbitant, the food was good, not great, and the service was slow and not well informed of the menu.
There aren't many French options in Denver, and I hope for the best for Barbes, but I won't be visiting again soon.
This is one of the best restaurants in Denver. We dine here regularly and always order something from all four courses-everything is always delectable and unpretentious and beautifully prepared. We just celebrated our anniversary there on Sat night and the dinner was out of this world. The service is also excellent. And the restaurant feels like the best of a Parisian bistro, but with a twist that the food is lighter, more flavorful and global, and more innovative. I love that the food leans in the direction of North African, which makes it more interesting.
I love this little gem in east Denver. The food is very good and creative. The wine list is extensive for the size of the restaurant. We particularly like the appetizers - try all of them! You will love the French bread, warm and soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside.
Bistro Barbes is a gem in the northern Park Hill neighborhood that is in transition. An attractive
apartment building is being constructed at 28th Ave. & Fairfax. The Greater Park Hill office is around the corner. Truly a unique restaurant in a unique setting.
Cute and cozy restaurant, impeccable service, tasty food and and great wine selection to be paired with the food. We had a great time and are sure we will be back! Thank you for having us!
My favorite restaurant!
Bistro Barbes is one of the best restaurants in Denver. I would recommend the food, service and wine selection to anyone who enjoys beautiful, creative and delicious food.
This is one of the best dining experiences in Denver. The place is low key and kind of hard to find. The service is terrific and the food even better. It's French-inspired food that you won't find other places in Denver. It's worth every second you spend in Bistro Barbes.
Fantastic neighborhood restaurant with innovative food and great service
Everything was delightful. The food outstanding, service excellent, worth a visit.
Wonderful for any occasion!
Do not miss an opportunity to dine at this restaurant! Rarely do you ever have a meal where every course, every dish is superbly delicious...the wait staff were excellent. The restaurant is cozy and small, like you are in a French restaurant in Paris. The drinks, so good. The experience, memorable. We look forward to the next time.
Very quaint bistro. Excellent cocktails. Great fresh salad with very unique flavors. Limited entree options. Seafood not quite as fresh as expected.
Food was mediocre and bland and limited and boring options for vegetarian dining companion. It was a disappointment for the price.
Haven’t been here for a couple of years, it used to be great, this time was good but not even very good. Would probably try one more time to see if this was just that night but I was a bit disappointed
The food was excellent and the service was perfect.
A favorite for my wife and I, would 10/10 recommend to anyone looking for a unique and delightful experience.
Always a fantastic experience with amazing service.
A cozy out of the way place that is definitely worth finding. The menu is small, but unique. Classically French with a twist by adding Mediterranean and North African spices. All the deserts are made in house by Chef Jonathan Robbins and worth every calorie !
The service is excellent and the food is interesting. Vegetarian options are very good.
Bistro Barbes is an underappreciated neighborhood jewel in Park Hill. It is owned and managed by some friendly Denver natives with an appreciation for fine food and drink. They have a limited menu each night but what they do serve is prepared exquisitely. It's not inexpensive but it shouldn't be. The food and service are truly outstanding. Don't overlook Bistro Barbes when you are looking for an outstanding meal in Denver. You will surely find one there.
Wonderful food, outstanding service - all that one could want to celebrate the evening! I like supporting small businesses that work hard to make the experience a memorable one- well done! And, I’ve recommended it twice since eating there. Did I mention that the food was beautifully seasoned, a superb mix of flavors and textures- and had a wow factor!
One of the best meals in Denver. Original, innovative high quality cuisine. Hidden Denver gem.
Wow! What an unexpected pleasure for a Wednesday night! Treat yourself to squash salad...yum, gnocchi....perfectly toasted , the cod dish was exquisite, hanger steak...to perfection. And the presentation!
A small business chef/owner that exceeds so many! Oh ya, the fruit tart-what an ending to excellent service and the best meal I’ve had in ages. An we eat!!!
this is a neighborhood gem! Fantastic food and service! Small menu but the options are awesome and the menu changes every few weeks.
We are so proud to have this gem of a little bistro in our neighborhood and we eat here often! Love that the menu changes often. The Icelandic cod was cooked perfectly and the poundcake with chocolate ganache, blueberry ice cream and shaved foie gras knocked our socks off!
This spot is divine! Never disappoints!
had this place on my radar for a long time...kicking myself in the butt for not doing it sooner.
Neighborhood restaurant. Very comfortable and relaxing. Small restaurant with interesting menu. Friendly service. Small but decent wine list.
The food was delicious and served with an artistic presentation. The waiter was knowledgeable about wines and found our guests a wine they liked .that was not on the menu. This is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant with continental cuisine.
From the appetizer to dessert, every single bite was perfection.
The food is as good as the 18th arrondissement in Paris without the price tag.
One of the greatest meals I've ever had.
This was our anniversary and we were greeted with two glasses of prosecco. My husband, who rarely finds eating out worth the cost, said this was the best meal he had had at a restaurant in a long time. I agreed with him. The portions were just right, the food delicious, and the service excellent.
Excellent food and service. No problems with reservations. I would highly recommend.
Somewhat limited menu but all dishes our friends and we ordered were genuinely outstanding. Cozy Park Hill spot. Highly recommended.
Wonderful meal, wonderful staff. And now I'm typing to get over 50 characters.
This was our second time having dinner at Bistro Barbes. Our dinner (Hanger Steak) and the fish were prepared perfectly and were very tasty. The tabouleh was not what I have been used to. For sure, it was not the middle east traditional tabouleh, but none the less, it was good. My two issues were the poor selection of wine by the glass. I tried the California Pinot Noir, which was very unimpressive. They did not have a Cabernet by the glass. Their Cote du Rhone was good, but they ran out of that wine.
