This a place we have loved for years and it continues to be special. We just brought our friend from London and she was amazed by both the food and the hospitality displayed by John. We will be back in November when our friend from NYC comes for a visit including Thanksgiving. Looking forward to another wonderful time and meal, of course.

What an amazing experience. The portion sizes are amazing, perfect amazing quiet spot. He only takes 12 people at a time I believe which leave the perfect environment for convervesation

The food was incredible!!! Each dish is creative, thoughtfully prepared and insanely delicious. I got the wine pairings and those were equally amazing- great value too. Can’t wait to eat here again.

Bistro Barbes is hands down the most amazing ‘hidden gem’ in Denver. Even if you made it to its out of the way street, you could walk right by it and not notice. Inside, it is a completely different story, a very attractive, small (perhaps 25 people, max) space. But the food… undoubtedly some of the best I have ever had in 25 years in Denver. A Moroccan inspired French prix fixe menu that amazes. These days, Bistro Barbes is essentially a one man operation, with the owner/chef greeting and serving you personally. Seek it out!

Truly a brilliant experience - the food was phenomenal, in particular the braised beef green peppercorn au poivre (has more names) was perfect - wine choices were perfect too - as someone that is very particular and demanding in quality and preparation this place does not disappoint and it a must - Jon also was gracious and is truly a cuisine-renaissance-man.

We have been to Bistro Barbes several times and it is always a unique experience. Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, it is a one man culinary show. Be aware that their is only a prefix menu so check ahead if you want to know what you'll be getting. With that said, the menu is very creative/tasty and service is spot on. A very intimate experience since there are only a few tables being served at any one time so you get to truly focus on your dinner companions.

Chef John is an artist. We’ve been dining with him now for a few years. He never misses on flavor. I’ve never had a dish I questioned. We are always so excited to go see what new dish and journey he’s prepared. It’s also very inexpensive for what it is. $75 4 courses and an extra amount that I can’t recall for a wine pairing, which are always excellent picks! This is the place to go for a quiet dinner with a good friend, a romantic date or even by yourself if you’re looking for a wonderful culinary journey.

This is an amazing hidden gem of a restaurant. The food coursing was so thoughtful and so were the wine pairings. The staff are also friendly and fantastic. This place deserves to be one of the buzziest spots in the city!

Chef Jon puts on a magical one-man operation. He limits the tables to 12 people each night, and delivers four-course menus that are bursting with flavors from the Maghreb, and preparation that is all French. I also enjoyed his wine selections for the tasting's pairing, and left feeling pleasantly plump and warm. The standout was a beef pie, prepared in a powdered sugar pastry in the Moroccan style. Delicious. His desserts are a revelation. Go. just go.

Chef is only slightly annoyed that I call him chef every time he visits our table. "You can call me Jon, you know." I reply "Thanks Chef Jon." As punishment, he brings me a glass of chartreuse. "You're gonna talk like a cook, you gotta drink like one."

Fantastic experience! A one man show. Not what we expected, but amazing how seemlessly chef pulled it all off on his own. It all worked out fine, but a bit more energy in the space would have been nice. It is January, so not unexpected. Cheers to a wonderful dinner experience and an impressive one man band!
