Went with 3 other people and we all ordered 2 plates each and got one of each dessert. The variety and flavorful nature of the food had us all "wowed", full, and definitely wanting to come back for more. We split a pitcher of sangria as well which was superb. Overall would highly recommend this restaurant, especially on a summer evening when the front is opened up. Great atmosphere and authentic.
Sorority big little reveal
IF you want authentic, real tapas in the STL area this is the place to go. The vibe inside is what you want for a tapas place. It is great for a business meal, group meal or dinner for two. All the dishes are made with fresh ingredients and taste amazing. Service is top notch. Not a bad thing I have ever had on their menu.
Very good evening with group of friends. Great service, food and drinks
Wanted to try somewhere new for my birthday dinner, sad to say I was a little disappointed. I made reservations a couple of days ahead of time but they still tried to sit us in the middle of a walkway in the bar area. I asked for a different table and we were given another one but still a high top in the bar area near the kitchen. I guess I thought by making reservations you'd get one of the nicer tables, I dunno. After we ordered, it took 25-30 minutes just to get iced tea and the two cocktails our table had ordered. The drinks came after the food. The paella was delicious but I doubt I'll go back. If you're looking for a good tapas place, try Sanctuaria in The Grove! I've always had good experiences there!
The food was not as good as expected.
Enjoyed the experience, great food and great atmosphere. Very friendly staff and very helpful in ordering tapas. Enjoyed the Sangria and the goat cheese.
Gal-entines Day. We made reservations for our table of 6. It was ready on time. Service was good and food was good. We shared many meals.
Look I get it, downtown dining rooms usually are a little on the cramped side, but the tables they use at BARcelona are in another level - in a bad way. Ridiculously small and they expect you to eat off plates the size of coffee cup saucers! We came here last Valentines Day too, and the set they served last year was so much better than what they did this year. Lights were way too bright, and someone made the genius (not really) to put scented candles on the tables...it did not pair well with the food...
Calamari - decent but nothing special
Roasted potatoes in a tomato sauce - tasty
Pork loin skewers - very good but SMALL
Garlic shrimp in chili oil - no taste of chili oil and shrimp were swimming in a bland sauce..
Paella for two - finally a decent portion, but FLAVORLESS!
Desert Brownie & churros...meah at best.
Just overall a disappointment and we won’t be back..
We had a wonderful time! Great food, wonderful atmosphere (can be loud), fabulous service, and excellent for something different. My husband and I like to bring out of town family here for an enjoyable evening. The service was outstanding and very prompt. The owners were attentive and saw them walking around the restaurant often. We also felt the place was clean and neat for a review. We thank you for presenting a great experience!!!!
Clayton Food Week
Enjoyed our evening at Barcelona! The pork kebabs were very dry and a lot of the food needed salt but overall I thought it had great flavor. I really liked my garlic shrimp and my Tres Leches cake the best. The staff was very very nice and attentive. No major complaints or problems I would definitely go back!
Service and food is always amazing!
Great neighborhood tapas bar. Always has been a fantastic venue with amazing food variety and impeccable service. A true St. Louis destination venue...! Love it..! ❤️
I support local business and consider disappointing experiences to be opportunities for constructive criticism rather than a green light to rant or leave scathing reviews. I dont know whether Barcelona or OpenTable is on the hook here, but since i receieved an email asking for a review, I will oblige the request.
I made reservations for two at 8pm on Thursday, Jan 11 through the OpenTable app. I receieved email confirmation of the reservation and update/reminders sent to my phone. I was impressed by the restaurant’s reputation and eager to try the famous paella especially (in fact, I still am - hence the 4 stars for food). When my dinner date and I arrived after a 60 minute drive to Clayton, we were brusquely informed that the restaurant was closing early due to reports of inclement weather and rather brusquely turned away. While it was a slow night, several individuals were seated at tables and the bar. A very simple courtesy would have been to pick up the phone or email and contact the holder of the reservation and advise that the reservation must be cancelled, and save us an hour of wasted travel to Clayton, or even take a moment or two to be personable when turning away a confirmed reservation. You never know who you might be turning away; perhaps staff should be encouraged to treat everyone who walks through the door like a valued customer- especially those who extended the courtesy of making a reservation. Why else would I bother with Opentable? I took the time to confirm the reservation I understand that stuff happens unexpectedly, but those moments are also opportunties to showcase superior hospitality, simply by taking ownership of the moment and making an effort to be hospitable. While it is admittedly a small sample size, I found Barcelona to be lacking in this regard. I have no doubt that the food and service is generally execellent at Barcelona, but based on my first aborted experience there, i suspect there is room for improvement.
The restaurant was very cold
Semi-authentic Tapas and decent cocktails marred by loud, ambiance crushing music. Why not go all in with the Spanish vibe and play something more apropos than current pop music?
The food is terrific but the place is loud. The noise is not as bad as many contemporary restaurants and the carpeting does help, but They might consider lowering the music and seeing what else they can do to change the ambiance.
Our meal and service were outstanding. We took friends from Chicago and they loved it. DJsamanthalee was terrific. Wish there was a dance floor to we could do the music justice.
Great service, great food! Our orders were turned quickly. They were prepared well, tasty and creative. The variety of a tapas menu made it really enjoyable with a group.
I showed up at 7:30 for a 7:30 reservation. I had to wait for over 5 minutes for the hostess to come to the desk. When she finally did, she said it would be about 10 minutes for a table. I showed up at 7:30 for a reservation that I had made for 7:30 and was now being told that I would not be getting a table until 7:45, 15 minutes after I had booked for. My boyfriend and I had a drink at the barwhile we waited for our table. When our table was finally available, the hostess came over and told us that she would save the table for us while we paid for our drinks, as if she was doing us a favor. As we were walking back to the hostess' desk, she spotted us and walked off without so much as a "follow me" or "right this way." I was unsure if I should have followed her or if she was running off to take care of something else (she was bringing out food to tables, so I'm guessing they were understaffed). It wasn't until she pulled out a chair at an empty that I realized that she was in fact showing us to our table. I was completely taken aback at her behavior.
Had it not been for our waitress I would have given BARcelona 1 star in terms of service. The food was okay and the prices are okay. But until I hear of some improvements with service I will not be going back.
My family and I love new and interesting food. What could be better than a trip to Spain via BARcelona Tapas?! It was a great time filled with good food, great drinks, and reasonable prices.
mediocre food, same service. I made reservations based on tripadvisor but was disappointed. the lights in the restaurant flickered all the time, the light was dim, the restaurant seemed grimy and not well-maintained. we sat next to the bathroom and the door to the basement - once the waitress opened the door to the basement I got a glimpse of the dirty wall. ugh..
the shrimps were undercooked, the beef was tough, the churros overly sweet. the olives were good. white sangria ($5) did not have almost any alcohol but the whole glass was full of ice.
overall, it was a big disappointment and will be more careful next time when selecting recommendations from tripadvisor.
Enjoy the nature of shareables. BARcelona tapas are delicious.
Barcelona is our go to Tapas restaurant in St Louis. We love the bar / restaurant for its trendy ambiance and good food and drinks. On this visit stand out dishes were Bacallao, salmon and mushrooms. They were spot on. We didn't care for the Spanish sausages, croquettes - which seem to be missing ham, and the mojito which tasted of tonic water. Shouldn't a mojito be muddled sugar, lime, and mint with rum? Perhaps it was a different take on the classic mojito because they remade the drink and it came back tasting the same.
Even though we were disappointed with some offerings there were others that were good. Overall the full experience was a slight disappointment as we've always been happy in the past and expected the same .
We really enjoyed our family birthday celebration. So much fun to share the delicious tapas,
the kids age 5 and 7 found lots of great foods too. Saved room for yummy desserts. We will return to BARcelona for another family gathering.
Very good food at fair prices. Nice area though somewhat noisy.
First time here...and I will be back!
Thoroughly enjoyed the variety of small plates we ordered at this friendly casual spot. Excellent assortment of Spanish style tapas. Also had the paella, which may have been short on seafood but still had an excellent taste.
Definitely worth a try.
Food was GREAT!!! Service was horrible.
Our first time at the restaurant, and we were very impressed!
The bar was a little loud but the people were very friendly and the food was good. Especially liked the goat cheese in marinara.
Fun place to have a meal. Our mistake was selecting it for a business dinner -- venue too noisy to hear conversations.
Amazing food and sangria!
I was part of a group of 6. One couple (there were 4 of us singles) generally prefers to order for themselves; the rest of us were open to sharing. Our waitress helped greatly with determining how much to order for ourselves and for the table. All our food was very good with the exception of the beef tenderloin. Only mine was cooked as ordered: rare. The medium and medium-well orders were under-done. One was sent back. Although mine was cooked as ordered, it was tough. Tenderloin should never be tough if not overdone. We all look forward to returning.
Barcelona has been a longtime favorite. Every time we are headed to St.Louis it is on my must do list. The lamb is my favorite on the menu and you can't beat $10 sangria pitchers during happy hour.
Two friends got their food and finished it before we had to ask for l where my food was. They did have a large party come in but it was a little strange that I sat there hungry while others were able to eat and completely finish their meals. We did get dessert comped and it really wasn't the server's fault. It was just a rather frustrating experience for a first time there.
Service and food were great. I have eaten here several times. Lunch is quietest if you want to have a conversation. Dinner can be noisy.
Excellent menu with lots of choices. Suggestions on their best dishes were very good. Only complaint is the dish I would have expected first, and wanted first, came last and the potatoes which are an accompanyment came before any other dishes.
Disappointing experience. Brought friends from out of town and was a bit embarrassed. Service was terrible. Waitress repeatedly asked which tapas we had ordered. Drink orders had to be made three times with different people before the (watered down) drink arrived. One of our plates came out much later than the rest. Tuna was not fresh. Waitress spilled water on the table and my son's leg. Used his napkin to wipe it up and then asked if he wanted a new napkin rather than just bring one. We had two large 20 year olds with us and they stuck us in a table against the wall rather than a table with open sides (which was available). Unlikely to return.
One of my favorite restaurants in St. Louis. Not very crowded on Monday night. Visits on the weekend are louder. I love their menu, especially the muscles and gazpacho.
