Always great food & drinks. Desi playing the music always makes it better!
Amazing service, food and view! We love the Bali Hai.
Great ambiance, great food, outdoor seating is very comfortable with outdoor heaters, and beautiful view while Hawaiian music plays gently in the background.
Love this place, most of the time it’s really excellent. Every once in a while it’ll be a little off mark but the views are amazing
Beautiful venue. Helpful and friendly staff. Affordable prices. Overall, a phenomenal experience. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.
I have been dining here for many years and have found the whole experience to be very rewarding and very satisfying.
A wonderful view. The food was very tasty and the staff was attentive. A bit pricey, but you pay for the view. Plenty of free parking too.
Its a nice place to eat. Food is good, not 5 stars but good. Drinks are amazing. Good service. Great views.
Great place! Great view! Great staff! They made our anniversary very special! Even gave us a special treat for our anniversary!
We went for Sunday Mother’s Day brunch. While the view is incredible, the service was awful. He took a really long time to greet us and took equally as long between visits, our drink orders, and food. While I would like to say it was due to Mother’s Day rush, the reality is that where we were seated it was still pretty slow so their wasn’t really a reason to justify the lack of attention and service
the hostess had no idea who was going where. She came back a couple of times after promising to seat us and made us wait and wait. We had a reservation, but it seemed the hostess couldn't keep organized and people were cutting the check in station.
The inside was obnoxiously loud, the bar is right at the entrance where you have to wait: tons of drunk people with no masks and someone even puked in the hallway leading to the bathroom and all over the woman's stall. It was only 5:30pm, so be prepared for a long night.
Tables were too closed together.
People at the bar also were next to each other. No social distancing observed indoor at all.
Please bring to attention to manager and owner.
I hate to see the restaurant get into trouble with SD county
From license MD.
The best Tiki/Polynesian inspired restaurant for a weekend brunch or lunch. Go for the ambiance of Shelter Island and enjoy their famous mai tai. Their tiki drinks are all a hit.
Service was poor. Food service took almost and hour. A beer cost more than a mixed drink. Views were incredible.
We go out once a week for date night and like to pick somewhere with good food and ambiance. Given the current covid situation we are not comfortable sitting inside and reserved an outside table. We got there 5 minutes before our reservation time and wasn’t seated until 30 mins later. I said we reserved an outside table but the host rudely said they didn’t have any and would not have any anytime soon unless we wanted to wait until 30 mins. By then we were just super hungry so we accepted the taken given to us. We were seated in a terrible location facing the bussing corner so our review was just of waiters and dirty dishes.
The ahi poke was so spicy I couldn’t even eat it and my partner said he felt the spicy coming out the other end the next day. Edamame was fine. My pan seared sea bass was pretty much a soggy mess as it was plated in the Sichuan vege juice. My partner ordered the pan seared tuna and that was fine. The drinks were fine and dessert was fine but overall very disappointing experience. Overrated, overpriced, under delivered.
Great restaurant with a Tiki vibe. The food and drinks were great.
Best lunch and dinner around with a view of San Diego bay and downtown.
The service was very friendly and courteous without being overbearing.
Great spot for a memory-making dinner. Right on San Diego Bay, at the east end of Shelter Island. Easy, ample parking. Picturesque, fantastic food and service!
Bali Hai is our most favorite restaurant ... not just in California, but in all the United States. The food, view, and ambience are all beautiful!! The owners Susie, Larry, and Tom set the example for "world class" restaurant management and service.
In our opinion, Bali Hai is wasting its most valuable asset....THE VIEW!! We had invited several friends ( from Oregon, Arizona, & Colorado) to show off the happy hour on the patio with the incredible bay view and music. From the happy hour area upstairs, our friends got to see the parking lot. My view was actually a small kitchen. The ambiance of Desi playing outside in that tropical setting was lost. We were SOOOO disappointed and embarrassed that our friends had traveled so far hoping to see the city and bay views only to look at cars in a very crowded space. Please move HH back outside!! Otherwise, we won’t be back :( I’m going to check the “ no” box below because with the way things are now, I can’t recommend it anymore.
We had a wonderful experience celebrating my 50th birthday.
Food left a lot to be desired. Great view
We needed a nice, fun get away night. Bali Hai delivered!
Tommy & Kona made my daughter’s birthday extra special. Thank you!
Always a good time. I wish their burger was consistent. Every time it is a different size.
Tommy & Victor G were awesome. Thank you!
Great ocean view made for a relaxed conversation with friends.
Views are spectacular, staff is attentive and personable, food is excellent. I hope that after they are able to fully reopen, they will keep some of the downstairs patio for regular dining, not just special occasions. The upstairs deck does not compare.
Always a fine experience at Bali Hai. A perfect location with good food and service.
Best place on the bay!
Best food, service, drinks and more!
Your Seared Ahi is tremendous. Great Drinks and always enjoyable to hear Desi Relitor.
Always considered a date when my wife and I are here. Been a place for years to enjoy and glad Covid didn’t close it down.
Great view, great food, great service! Had a wonderful time!
Delicious food. Excellent service. Beautiful ambiance!! Definitely coming back.
This place has gone to crap! Took my wife here for her birthday what a disappointment from what Bahi Hai USED to be! Cold food, overcooked meats...That at $40.. bucks a filet should have been cooked to order but was extremely overdone and questioned by our server as to the meat being medium rare...What part of medium-rare are you not familiar with ?!?!? What part of the CUSTOMER is not happy with the $40.00 filet being overcooked that you need to question if we knew what medium-rare should look like!
But thank you for sending it back only to wait 15+ minutes for a refire, and to have that $40.00 filet taste like it was boiled then thrown in a pan for the sear that was still over 50% med -well NOT RARE! We Won't be back here like "Ever"!
Always hit Bali Hai when we visit San Diego!
brought my fiancé here for his birthday and we had an amazing sunset window view. great service as well i wish i remembered his name. there was a bone in the fish (that was stated to be boneless) that poked my fiancé in the mouth, so they threw in one of their delicious desserts on the house. highly recommend this place for locals and tourists alike. pricey but great for special occasions!
Food was not piping hot, would prefer to let my meal cool if it is too hot to eat rather than arrive lukewarm.
We were actually disappointed with the entire experience. It seemed the wait staff was short, the food was not hot and the cleanliness was poor. My husband went into the men's room and it was filthy.
My grandparents and parents used to take me there and it has definetly changed for the worse over the years.
Beautiful view, delicious food & cocktails and outstanding service!!
