Excellent chef! Apps and mains were cooked well and full of flavor.
Our favorite restaurant in San Diego. The Mai Tai’s are the best. The food is outstanding and the service is exceptional. Music by Desi is the best. Hawaiian and Polynesian music fits perfectly with the theme.
If I had one suggestion it would be to install noise reducing measures throughout the restaurant and lounge. When people start talking they end up yelling to be heard over others who are yelling. It’s not the music, the sound level is perfect.
The view was awesome, and the food was great!
Delicious food! Loved the Spinach cream cheese lumpia:)
Overrated. Food sucked and not worth the money. Poke was grey. Meat tough. Food flavorless. Cheesecake tasted like mushy cake with acid on top.
Bali Hai is always nice. The Mai Tais are always awesome. Our server Kevin, was as close to perfect as it can get. He was helpful, timely, courteous, and an all around lovely guy. My mother adored him. The food was good, the view was spectacular, and Kevin was amazing. Thanks.
Outstanding food and view and service and ambience for the money- well worth going to if you’re in San Diego!
Great food, strong drinks, breathtaking view. This combo never disappoints! Our server, Mary was knowledgable and friendly!
Always have a great experience here and views are amazing!
It was my husband’ 60 birthday and I want to take him somewhere special. We were not disappointed with our first buffet after almost 2 years. The ambiance and the quality of food were excellent. Servers were very attentive. They were very prompt with refilling my ice tea and clearing the dirty dishes from the table. I most definitely will return!
We were celebrating our anniversary and requested a nice table when we made our reservation. We had a great spot at the window, the staff wished us happy anniversary when we checked in. My husband said it was one of the best meals he has had at a restaurant! One slight mix up when I was given the wrong entree, but it was quickly fixed. Our server was great, attentive but not hovering. Would definitely recommend and would go back. Only issue is that it was quite loud, but it was a Saturday evening.
Excellent view, delicious drinks and food. The service is prompt and friendly. My favorite restaurant in San Diego.
The view is always lovely and the staff is fantastic!
It was extremely noisy, very crowded, our waiter, Jonathan, was overwhelmed. Consequently, the service was lousy. The food was good but way too spicy. The worst part was the noise. You can call it “energetic,” But it was truly a painful experience to try to have a conversation. The only A+ went to the beautiful view of the bay. No, we will not go back.
The view was amazing, the food was great and our server Daniel made the overall experience for my birthday truly enjoyable with his recommendations and great demeanor. First time visiting Bali Hai and definitely not our last.
You will not be disappointed. The food was great. The staff was very polite and attentive. Great service all around.
Good food with spectacular bay view!
Started with Ali’ i Tasting. Coconut shrimp and beef skewers were highlight of this sampler appetizer. Good portion of poke, but not the best poke I’ve had. Next time will just order the coconut shrimp and beef skewers.
Grilled market fish was halibut, which was excellent with the mango purée. Could have had a bit more of the coconut basmati rice and purée on plate.
Came to celebrate a friend’s birthday and got a complimentary dessert (nice touch)
Overall pleasant lunch experience, but restaurant got a bit noisy even with social distancing.
Marissa was our server and she was terrific. Friendly and professional and made great recommendations.
Great meal and a beautiful view of the city and harbor. Celebrated our anniversary, Desi provided entertainment before we were seated, it was wonderful. Will definitely return!
Server only spoke to males at the table
Food + view + ambience was once in a lifetime
Birthday dinner. Great table on the water with fabulous view of bay, sailboats, San Diego skyline, etc. service was good also. Food was over-salted and spicy with no notice of that on menu! Filet was ordered med-rare twice and declined both times for being over done! Appetizers were both too salty and spicy hot! Mashed garlic potatoes were too salty and smooth like pudding. Wok veggies were cooked perfectly but in soy sauce again too salty!
Tried to add a photo but your app isn’t cooperating
The Mai Tai is hauntingly good 🍹
Enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The sea bass was excellent and so were the Mai Tai’s.
We loved the views and cocktails! Food was ok. Deff will go back but for cocktails only!
Fantastic as always!
Disappointed champagne brunch was no longer included in price
Very good food and service. Awesome view!
Food and atmosphere was great would love to go back we took our kids there they had a good time sitting by the windows and looking out over the bay
Another wondrous visit to Bali Hai! I first came here as a child with my parents back in the 90's because my dad had grown up in San Diego and always loved this classic Polynesian-inspired restaurant. Although I was quite young, the unique architecture, panoramic views, and tropical setting left a very deep impression. A couple years ago I returned for the first time as an adult with my wife, nearly 20 years later, to find the magic is still here! The restaurant has been lovingly cared for and maintained inside and out. The service and food is still exceptional, and I finally got to sample their infamous mai tai! We were in town again for a weekend getaway recently and I simply *had* to return for some more delicious South-Seas escapism. More mai tais were consumed of course, along with some new favorites. We shared the ali'i appetizer sampler (the coconut shrimp is a stand-out!) and also shared the lobster tacos so we'd have room for the incredible Bananas Foster Crème Brûlée. We had our 9-month-old infant with us, so we requested a table outdoors where we'd be out of the way of other diners, and we were treated to a table at the edge of their balcony with the most beautiful, picturesque, sweeping view of the San Diego bay and enjoyed watching all the ships and sailboats drifting to and fro. The service, ambiance, food, and drinks were just as great as always - and I also noted that the landscaping around their ground-level gardens seemed especially fresh, lush, and well-manicured. I happily proclaimed that all future San Diego trips *must* include at least one meal at Bali Hai.
Great service, food, drinks and views!! We’ll be back!
Went for lunch with a friend and had the Ali'i Tasting pupu! Everything was delicious, especially the coconut shrimp! Beautiful atmosphere, and fantastic view of Mission Bay. Felt like I was in Hawaii.
Our table and view were amazing, but that was the highlight of our meal. The mai tai was as strong as advertised! But our food was just okay- we both had the shrimp and noodles with peanut sauce. Our dessert was pretty good (flourless chocolate cake with praline mousse). Overall it was okay.. I just wish the food had been better.
No Bread offered, we ordered Med Steak and it was well done.
Also they didn't have the Banana Foster dessert.
I don’t understand why they add the percentage to the whole bill instead of changing the price next to the item. Very deceiving.
Also, the oysters were room temperature which was gross. They should be cold.
This is one of my favorite places to take friends and visitors from out of town. Amazing view in a true, authentic tiki restaurant with good food and fun drinks!! It truly is a happy place!!
This was definitely a great place to eat for a birthday dinner!! I would definitely bring family here and the views of the water is amazing to go along with the food! 10/10
Great vibe and great view. Not a lot of food selection and the taste is alright.
But still a good place to spend a chill weekend afternoon.
Waiting time was horrible. We ordered crispy lobster tacos and we got the shrimp instead. We could have ordered something else, waiter fail to inform us. The salmon was salty for my taste, and noodles was below average.Overall I would not recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for great food. The views are fantastic but you can take advantage of that outside for free.
My moms 80th bday
