Great service! Only complaint is OpenTable not updating their brunch menu as it changed.
The food and service were great as they always are. This trip there was a table next to us of a group of loud people who were heavily inebriated and who almost made the experience unpleasant, however, the view and the awesome service made up for it. I understand you make the best drinks in town and with Covid it is difficult to ask if they are stopping in for a meal or just to get drunk, but that table, from what I overheard from their loud conversation is Bali Hai wasn't their first stop nor their last on their binge.
Still I have been coming to Bali Hai since the 1990's and will keep coming back.
The Bal Hai is the perfect setting for dining al fresco! The ambiance is amazing... just like being on a tropical vacation. The food is always delicious... just missing some of our favorite chicken options due to the limited 2020 menu. Looking forward to getting back again soon. Thanks for creating such a magical escape in these crazy COVID times!
We had a wonderful evening at Bali Hai , great food, drinks and service!
Even with Covid it’s a chore to get anyone together - even family members that don’t live together. I love the fact that Larry has a system of reservations and staff that makes sure your experience is top notch.
No matter what the occasion, or the price / if you feel locked up - this is the place to go and enjoy the view, the service (Lexie, aka Alexia) & along with the world famous Mai Tai (have Brian make it) and you’ll leave 100% satisfied!
Beautiful view of downtown and wonderful food! We always enjoy Bali Hai!
pro: the view
cons: salad with wilted leaves and very little toppings (waitress said they were running out of toppings...), cold meat, and mediocre dessert. every course was either sub par or just bad.
Thanksgiving dinner menu was awesome and worth the money.
Our Thanksgiving visit was lovely. The view and the ambiance were beautiful. The food was delicious. The drinks were tasty as ever. The seating was comfortable and spacious. Unfortunately, our waiter seemed to be stretched a bit thin. He was always on the run. It took 3 tries to get one of the orders for our table right. I can not say that I was completely satisfied with the service we received.
Had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner at Bali Hai...the staff and food was great
We had Thanksgiving dinner at the Bali Hai. Party of 3, including my husband and daughter. Got seated at possibly one of the best tables with a view upstairs balcony. Absolutely incredible views of the bay! My husband and daughter enjoyed their turkey/salmon entrees but my stuffed portabello was pretty awful! In addition to, as a vegetarian I couldn't have the gravy, mashed potato or stuffing since they all had chicken stock; why (?)
After our main course we didn't see our server again for a good 30 mins. My husband had to go twice to try and track her down, so very disappointed in that. Overall, wasn't worth $48 in my opinion.
Had dinner Wednesday night, and for Thanksgiving. Always excellent, friendly service, impeccably clean and good food.
Always a pleasure to enjoy the amazing food, excellent music by Desi, and the World Famous Mai Tais! Oh, and did I mention the view!? It really doesn't get any better than this! Mahalo Bali Hai !!!
The dinner menu was easily accessible via code reader at the table. The wait staff were attentive without being overbearing. Due to Covid, dining was outside and with heaters on it was comfortable.
The menu was limited but sufficient across a range of food types. We had the Korean Sirloin and Sea Bass dishes. The strips were good, not overcooked and in a nice mix of onions and savory sweet soy sauce. The sea bass was excellent and was mixed with satay vegetables which were slightly too spicy and somewhat overpowered the delicious and light sea bass flavor.
The BaliHai traditional Maitais were strong and made for a nice with-dinner cocktail. Overall the food and service were good, the fog came in heavily during dinner from 7 to 8pm making the outdoor heaters a must. There's no reason not to enjoy the ambiance and a good meal at Shelter Island's Bali Hai restaurant.
Excellent food, service and the view from the outside seating was spectacular. All tables were well placed according to the pandemic guidelines. I highly recommend the Brunch menu!
Our server Kevin was outstanding! Be sure to hold onto those mai tai glasses! They are slippery!
mai tai's are fire, poke is delicious, beautiful view
The drinks, service and views are amazing and worth going. The food is good, but not great.
Beautiful view, great food and drink menu. Just a little something different by the water.
Amazing service and the view was breathtaking! Would dine again!
Wonderful service by Mario. Great birthday spot.
This is my go to place at least 2x’s per week. I will always go there no matter the political or virus climate. Outdoor seating is preferred, so I’m happy to sit outside and actually look at the city, boats and the North Island naval base. This place is perfect and getting better all the time.
Obviously, drink as many Mai Tai’s as they’ll allow but don’t drive afterward because you will have troubles......not because your injured, but because you’ll be too happy to do dumb things like operate machinery
Bali hai has the best staff of anyplace in San Diego....also the view is second to none. On the bay. Food is great too....and the Mai tais are the best in the world!!!
Bali Hai restaurant is a slice of heaven. A real treat.
The owners, Larry and Tommy are fantastic people.
Under the current social distancing and crowd limitations, Bali Hai has made excellent use of it's extensive open-air patio space to set up tables and heat lamps with views-to-die-for overlooking San Diego Bay and the lights of downtown. REALLY nice! The service was exceptionally cheery and helpful, the food was great, as always, and the cocktails, well... what can you say about BH cocktails that doesn't include the word "Legendary"?!? A really nice experience during rather depressing times, so I highly recommend an evening at the BH to just "get away from it all" and feel like you are alive again...
Wonderful, as always!
Beautiful ambiance, excellent service. Food was delicious. A+++
Our waitress Mary was just perfect! It was our first visit, she gave great recommendations and catered to all our needs. Cant wait to go back.
Great food and ambience
I always tell my friends & others, when asked where to eat in Point Loma. Bali Hai or Tom Ham’s Lighthouse are my Strong Suggestions!
Favorite place! But don’t go so so its less crowded for us 🤣
Bali Hai is a great choice for happy hour with a nice selection of appetizers and lots of fun cocktails. The view is beautiful and the tables are well spaced for social distance.
Lunch on patio enjoying the fabulous view of San Diego!
Food was delicious!
Our food was absolutely amazing and Aaron was such a rockstar! He explained every detail to a meal you could almost taste it just by using your imagination. Will be coming back and bringing everyone I know!
Calamari and French fries are really to salty. General I finish everything but this time it was to much. Lighter hand on salt. Drinks are good.
Great place for a birthday celebration during these outdoor only times. Food was delicious and the drinks are always the best! One of my favorite places to celebrate!
Always have the best time here. Excellent service, fabulous drinks and the most magical setting of the SD skyline. Always the best date. Can’t wait to be back again!
Bali Hai has one of if not the best city water views in San Diego! Couple that with the best Mai Tai in Southern California and you are guaranteed a wonderful experience.
The restaurant was nice, and the view of the city was absolutely amazing. The food was not as delicious as view. The dishes were presented very nicely, but P.F Changs blows their food out of the water. With that being said, the dishes are quite expensive, so you are really paying for the view. On a positive note, the service staff was really great. Drinks and food were brought out extremely fast, and the vibe of the place is very chill. All in all, I'd say the experience was a 8/10. If you're looking for something scenic and romantic this is 110% the spot...also if you're trying to get drunk, their Mai Thai is strong af. If you're looking for really good tasting dishes this may not be the best place, but makes up for it with its larger variety of classic food items.
Best view of San Diego and awesome food/drinks and service. Everytime I have company in town, this is my go to spot!
The Baki Hai is on our short list of “must do’s” whenever we are celebrating a special occasion or have our of town guests. We love the casual atmosphere, great service and food options. Thank you for always taking good care of us!
