Avo is a chef-owned restaurant from New Orleans-born Chef Nick Lama, a third-generation Sicilian. “Avo” is an Italian word that translates as “grandfather” or “ancestor”. The menu at Avo is inspired by family recipes but served with a fresh perspective. Classics like meatballs and lasagna are standards, with inventive takes on many dishes like octopus & fresh Gulf Snapper. While the food is Italian-focused, many ingredients are Southern-grown and locally harvested.

Mannnnnnnnnnnnnn! Where do i begin? From the time i walked in the door until i left it was magical. The meatballs and fried artichokes for an appetizer are a must! I was so excited when i found out they use toshi cherries in the old fashion. My entree was the short rib lasagna. All I can say is WOW!!! The chef really out did himself. My server was Maggie and she was BEYOND helpful and attentive!!! Let's just say I will DEFINITELY be back!!!!!

We've been to Avo before and had excellent meals. This time the side dishes - kale, snap peas, asparagus were too salty. The remainder was excellent.
Can't go wrong with any pasta dish.

You feel like you are in an Italian farmhouse or rustic restaurant. Avo has a nice ambiance and feel to it. Our dinner experience was nice. We had a knowledgeable server-Alex-that provided great service and nice recommendations. Our dinner included the “paper plane” cocktails, fried artichokes, grilled octopus, satsuma salad, squid ink pasta and spaghetti with shrimp. All were great. The squid ink pasta was outstanding. I highly recommend it. Our dinner was leisurely and took over 2 hours. We ended the dinner with a great salty caramel desert. The only drawback to Avo is parking. There is none. We took an Uber there. Seriously. Don’t know where you would park.

The food here is extremely good, with a very thorough wine list. The staff is rather knowledgeable, much more so than you might expect. The ambiance is that of a mid-level Italian restaurant, but the food is five-star. The location is so distant from Canal Street that the probability of seeing tourists is basically zero. However, the place is a bit expensive, so be prepared for that.

In a word, perfection. Cannot believe we waited so long to try this place & cannot wait to go back. The host was friendly, the server (I think his name was Hayden) was kind, attentive, and knowledgable, and the food was creative and executed with care. On top of all this, the renovation is stunning and includes many details which evoke the former courtyard. The weather was mild so they had also opened many of the windows, which contributed to the ambiance, and the lighting was low and romantic with candles flickering all around. The whole experience made an otherwise normal Wednesday night feel really special.

This is our first time dining at Avo and we had a great experience. Great food and service! Maggie, our awesome server, was knowledgeable, professional and charming. We had Sicilian salad, charred octopus, flash fried brussel sprouts, ravioli and linguine with lobster and shrimp. All were
great. Can't wait to go back and try other dishes. This restaurant will be added to our regular rotation!

Greeted warmly and promptly and seated according to reservation time. The drinks were good although they took a little bit to arrive from the bar. Wait staff was attentive, professional, friendly. Calamari app is as amazing, meatball app was delicious. Tuna tartare app was good but needed more flavor. Entrees were a bit underwhelming. Filet was cooked perfect and tender but needed salt. My wife’s veal parm looked and tasted like cafeteria food. Friends squid ink pasta with lobster was decent. Star of the entrees was the lasagna. Overall, I’d go back bc the ambiance and service was great. I’d probably order more apps and split an entree though.

A group of 8 went to AVO on Friday night at 7pm. We started with drinks, and after much deliberation, each of us settled on appetizers, entrees and some side dishes to share. The food was fantastic and as a few couples stated, one of the best meals they’d had in quite a while. The renovation of the space is lovely. The service was impeccable. I highly recommend this restaurant.

I found that they lack the staff for the crowded restaurant. I had to get up twice to get the server’s attention ...once for spoons and to also get the bill paid which took almost 20 minutes. The food was good but unless they have more help , I probably won’t go back. There are too many other good restaurants here in New Orleans that offer great food and great service. I wouldn’t go back on my own but if someone wants to go there , as an accommodation , I would go but not on my own.

The squid ink fettuccine with lobster was one of the best entrees I've ever had. Simple ingredients but packed with savory flavors. If everything else on the menu was half as good, I'd still absolutely recommend Avo.

Everything was incredible. Started off with a bottle of Argiano Rosso, the artichoke, meatballs and muscles with nduja and every bite was flipping delish! For Entrees we got the ravioli, tuna, Tonnarelli, and the lasagna and finished off with some chamomile grappa and dessert! The atmosphere is perfect. Both the manager and server were so attentive and personable. Cannot wait to be back! Thanks everyone!

Tables too small for larger parties. Service was slow. My dish was incomplete, meaning the ingredients shown on menu were not all part of the dish. I should have sent it back but didn't want to deal with it.

The food was overall amazing. The salad I ordered was easily one of the best salads I've ever had, diverse and cohesive flavors in every bite. The broccoli appetizer was incredible, do not leave without ordering it. The ravioli was really good but a bit anti-climactic after the appetizers. The spaghetti with shrimp and artichoke was great. Our dessert, zeppole, was awesome.

We booked for NYE as we had eaten here before and like it. We had to reserve with CC for the prefix, or we would have walked out on the dinner. They are currently doing construction which they do NOT warn you about in their website or opentable! The smell of varnish/paint/ tile sealer was so strong it made me physically ill. I had to have them box my food and wait outside it was soo strong. We told the manager and she said she knew “there was a construction smell”, so she moved us to the other side of the Same room... I had a good experience in the last, but will not go back due to their lack of concern. They shouldn’t even be serving food with those chemicals around. Just a warning!

I’m sorry but it smelled like new construction, varnish or paint. The service was not great, appetizers were served before our cocktails, wine after I had my pasta for a full 10 minutes. The pasta was delicious. I asked for Parmesan and didn’t get it til my pasta was cold. Ugh. Overall for. $200 dinner for 3 ...disappointing for service, atmosphere but really delicious Italian food.

This has to be one of my favorite spots in the city. I love their expanded dining room, which was thoughtfully decorated for the holidays. It was the perfect date night spot and the food was incredible, as always. Best pasta dishes I’ve had in such a long time!

Was really looking forward to an amazing experience but was personally disappointed. When you enter the restaurant, which I know has undergone some work, there is an overwhelming smell of plastic, like a new shower curtain liner. It is awful (and the smell lingers on you once you leave the restaurant). All of us were very turned off. The waiter was nice and pretty attentive. Appetizers were very good- calamari, artichokes and meatballs were enjoyed by all. Most of our party really liked their food - filet mignon, chicken Fra Diavlo, and cacio e Pepe. The biggest disappointment was the pasta special which was nothing like described and not enjoyable. I also asked for one minor adjustment in the pasta (leaving off feta cheese topping.) When it arrived with the feta cheese on, I questioned him, and he said he saw the problem but stated he didn’t know what to do since the kitchen didn’t listen to his request and it was the last one of that dish. Wouldn’t rush back at all.
