    This was for the prix fixe thanksgiving day dinner. This place seriously over promised and under delivered. Or another way to look at it is all fur coat but no knickers. Kids menu was a joke. More at home in a dennys than an upscale eStablishment. Gougin was served cold and had obviously just been left out. Bread was delivered stale. Soup was good but then we had to wait ages for the next course. That was the common factor of the evening. Madeline’s and duck confit was a joke. Madeline’s were hard and burnt. Confit was rillets and done poorly. Portion sizes varied wildly between plates. Another long wait and wagu beef came which was all but a sliver and was under seasoned. It was just “there” it wasn’t a star of the show. Finally desserts were a bit of a joke. Poached pair must have been touching the wine all of 30 seconds and the glutinous mass served with it was inedible. This meal was hardly cheap. I complained at the end and the manager called me back and gave me some money back. Service was fine but wait between courses was bad. I was very hungry as I hadn’t purposely eaten all day for what was to be a special evening for my family and I. I won’t be going back. There are many other restaurants in town that offer fine dining like this and are worth every penny. This place has a nice setting but the kitchen needs a shake up and people need to be more honest with what it’s actually producing. My advice goto the Addison

    This is the third attempt at dinner at AVANT, and every time has been disappointing. We went for Thanksgiving thinking they couldn’t mess up turkey. The turkey was so tough, it was inedible. I had to send it back (and I rarely send food back). The stuffing risotto had terrific flavor, but was too salty and not enough of it. My boyfriend chose the fish which was dry. I ordered the brownie for dessert and had to use two hands to force my fork into it. It too was inedible. How do you screw up a brownie? Three strikes, AVANT is out.

    I’ve eaten here several times. Usually very good. The service was excellent as usual. The food was extremely disappointing. It was a set menu for Thanksgiving. The turkey “round” was dry. I’ve never seen turkey prepared like this before. The dessert was inedible…Basically half of the four course meal was not good. The soup was delicious. The high point of the meal. I won’t be returning for quite awhile.

    I had made a reservation through Open Table for one person for Thanksgiving Dinner. The menu sounded great, and I was really looking forward to having a nice meal. When I arrived the hostess (who was very nice) checked me in and told me that she had a great table for me—in the bar. I was very surprised as my reservation was not for the bar. I actually had called the restaurant two weeks ago to make certain I had reservations for Thanksgiving Dinner. I told her that I had a reservation for the restaurant and she informed me that no tables were available. Again-I had a reservation and no table! She told me that I could choose from the bar and the restaurant menu. I drove 45 minutes so I went to the table which is understandably very small and cramped. It’s the bar so I understand, but it’s not where I want to enjoy an expensive meal. I ended up just leaving. This is absolutely not the service expected from a restaurant of this caliber. Especially on a holiday. If you don’t want to serve single individuals in the dining room, then do not allow reservations for one or at least contact me and inform me beforehand that due to the number of people on the reservation bar seating is the only seating. Then I could make an informed decision. Unacceptable treatment and a huge disappointment for what I thought would be a great holiday.

    This was a meal we will remember for a long time. It was a splurge, but completely worth it. Each dish was a work of art and a culinary adventure. The Wagyu éclair was fantastic. I’d never had horseradish mouse and it was perfect. Each dish was absolutely stunning and a treat. The wine pairing was equally memorable. All the wines were delicious

    Our group was 6 persons for drinks and dinner. The chef is trying to hard to serve unique dishes. Some of the dishes were not edible. There is a desert dish with Avacado that was disgusting . The flavor was inedible of course we all had to try it and it was revolting. We ran into another group who said the same on our way out.

    Excellent tasting menu, wine pairing, and presentation. Our server Chris was very professional and a great conversationalist. The tasting menu was unique in that each course had multiple options rather than a single chef selection.

    Overpriced “pretty” food that was just not good. My husband ordered the A5 steak and the texture was gummy. We waited for 45 min after appetizer to get our entrees. The heirloom tomato salad was delicious. The onion soup that accompanied the steak was very good but the bread was so hard we could barely eat it. The presentation of the dishes were beautiful but I wouldn’t go back to eat. I would go back to have the drinks…they were definitely on point! Service, ambience and drinks were great!!

    The food was excellent. We ordered the 4-course tasting menu. We were told that the portions if you order a la carte are the same as if you order the tasting menu. The portions are not huge, but they are not small and certainly not as small as you would think a “tasting menu” portion would be. You could easily order one of the second or third course a la carte and be satisfied with the portion. Service was fantastic and the quality of food was outstanding. Great value for the quality you are getting. Chris was our server and did a great job informing us about the menu and getting our order handled perfectly. We definitely recommend this place as a great place for a romantic dinner with outstanding food quality with well-proportioned plates.

    AVANT has always been one of my go to restaurants, but I have not been there to dine since the pandemic. The new chef,Sergio Jimenez, has taken this place to a whole new level! The flavor combinations and presentations are some of the best I have ever experienced. If you are a goody, put this place on your short list and make a reservation soon. Looking for a romantic date? Sit on the patio overlooking the golf course at sunset.

    This restaurant is wonderful! My wife and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary here and it couldn't have been more perfect. The ambience was lovely and the staff were friendly. Our waiter Chris was exceptional and was sure to make our night feel special. The food was some of the best we've had in San Diego and the wine selection was on point. I would highly recommend this restaurant. We will definitely be back!

    Generally speaking Avant is a great restaurant. The menu evolves throughout the year with a on-site garden and seasonal produce. As a regular (over 50 visits in the last 3-4 years (2019-22) the current menus is the most challenging. The hand crafted cocktails are the best in the area (92128 and 92127) and worth a visit. my feedback to the chef would be "please pause". His creativity is commendable but is only designed for the few and typically upscale hotel restaurants need a more approachable dinning experience. Like other reviewers I too have seen inconsistencies in the food quality and service in the last 6-10 months. Maybe stepping back one level would allow for a more consistent experience. The food Avant serves is difficult to make as scale its evident in the wait times and preparation definitions. More specifically: The four course menu needs to be deprioritized. There's no cost savings so why offer it and there's nothing special. After the 4 time and doing the math it was more expensive then al carte. If you must offer four courses consider adding one special item (off menu) and charge more. Make it special. Structure the menu properly not "one" "two" three" its confusing because the portions don't align with headings. They align more with food costs. I find myself asking "how big/small is this item" or being disappointed when the item arrives triggering me to order 2 more which isn't really possible because of the time required to make each dish... So I have been told before. I will continue eating here because of its location. At the moment its hard for me to recommend to others.

    10/10 I would recommend this place if you want a nice, quiet, and sexy dinner. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. My date and I had the chef's 4-course meal with paired tasting to go with each meal. The restaurant is a part of a golf/resort and I believe has two different restaurants, so make sure you ask if you are the right one.
