Ava Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We tried this place for the first time to celebrate a birthday. The service by Natalie was fantastic. Unfortunately the food was not. The fish special priced at $33 was barely one serving. The crab on top of the fist tasted like bait. The salad and soup was average and priced at $17 for both. Someone in our group had the steak they said was good. But came out with mushroom sauce and was ordered without. Pizza was also ordered and I was told it was good. We will not be back. I’m sorry too because it had a nice ambiance and great service.
We love Ava but this one last time that we were there the waiters wasn’t very good , slow service plus she forgot to bring my order correct so I had to my dinner without my fish that I asked for in the salad .. but we will definitely come back it is a good place to hangout .
We sat at a high top table in the bar, which is where we like to sit so we don't feel obliged to order entrees if we aren't real hungry. Instead we had the meatballs, polenta and an in-the-woods salad that had a variety of tasty sauteed mushrooms. Danielle was a great upbeat and informative server. She knows every ingredient of every cocktail, including the Smoking Gun!
Everything was tasty and the ambiance was lively, but not too loud for conversation. We highly recommend Ava!
Nice neighborhood spot in South Howard for casual dining with an upscale menu. The big draw was the outdoor seating , plus a good place for people watching if you're into that. The menu is eclectic and everything was tasty, but there wasn't anything with a Wow factor
We went with a friend for his birthday who is a fan of Joe Madden. He has been wanting to check out this restaurant. (He was disappointed there was no baseball paraphernalia.) We took the drive across the bay from St Pete's. We arrived shortly after 6pm and the place only had one other table of guests at the time. This surprised us a bit.
The service was very good. Our waiter was most accommodating. The house red wine was good. Our friend had a dry martini. He said it was very good. We ordered the bruschetta appetizer. My husband and myself split the spinach salad. He ordered the Shrimp and pasta with a pesto sauce. I ordered the margherita pizza. Our friend had a side salad and the spaghetti with meatballs. Food overall was good. We could tell ingredients was fresh but all in all they are a bit over priced for what you get. This was probably why the place was not very busy. I wouldn't say that I won't return but I would need a real good reason.
Ava is consistently above average in everything they do. Appetizers are a fusion of rustic and modern. Pizza/flatbreads are excellent. Cocktails are crafted. Secondi’s and pastas are universally delicious. Skip the chicken parm.... nothing special and your other options are better!
I arrived too easy here with other military members and I was not disappointed. I wanted a menu with a wide variety as to appeal to the other military members and it did. The only thing I would recommend is that the menu itself during lunch hours offers different meal options, not necessarily a wider variety but more choices.
The mussels were outstanding, very filling as just an appetizer alone. All of the food has a fresh taste and flavor, though it may be a little pricey - but then again the location probably dictates that a bit. Our third time there, we will probably visit again at some point in the future.
My fish portion ( grouper) was too small , especially @ the price point. I have always been a fan but due to the size & then it's being a bit over cooked ( probably due to its small mass) I would not order fish there. Restaurant was too noisy to enjoy our conversation & too warm to sit outside.
Will only come during the week in future to avoid crowds,& order different dish. I always give a restaurant 2 strikes, before I won't go back.
I love this restaurant, but this visit was disappointing. Instead of getting my usual pasta, I ordered the steak. It was lukewarm and overlooked. We sat outside, which was very noisy due to all the 18 wheelers passing by. Surprising that they are permitted on these roads. Our experience would have been much improved by a candle on the table. It is not fun to eat what you cannot see. Also, why not keep salt and pepper on the tables? By the time it was provided, all of my food was cold. I will come back one more time, hoping that this visit was an aberration.
We eat at Ava once a month and it never disappoints. The food is consistently good. Service was a little slow this time, and our app came out after the main, but it was obviously a new server so we tried to be patient. In spite of this we will definitely be back.
Made reservation for 6 guests. Unfortunately, the reservation didn’t come with a good table as we were seated in a small room away from dining room which was filled with screaming kids. We politely asked for another table and received a rude no. Server was tasked with too many tables and made several errors related to our orders. Lack of management throughout and restroom was very dirty. Food was great; we will return and hope for better service and table.
We all thought it was a bit expensive for the taste. Pizza was good, but lots of people make a decent pie. We spent $200 on bruschetta, 2 pizza's and 2 dishes of pasta as well as 3 adult beverages.
It was also very loud. I think it was much quieter at the outdoor area but who wants to sit outside in the heat?
Beautiful restaurant, well designed space. Very cool space for drinks and a few snacks.
