It was a pleasant surprise to find a gem like this restaurant.
The food quality far outweighs the price! I’m accustomed to paying twice the amount for French cuisine.
We started off with their Tar Tar and escargot. Both were exquisite, at par with any other five star restaurant I’ve been to. The main entree was duck with cherrie wine reduction. Again, that was amazing, too! The atmosphere is very relaxing and quiet atmosphere. Small place with a charming, French feel.
Definitely will repeat. Looking forward to try their lamb chops next. Tar Tar is a must!
Being Belgian and craving decent French/Belgian food, this place didn’t disappoint. Very good ambiance with French music in the background. We ordered beef tartare, charcuterie platter and mussels as appetizers. Enough good for 4 people and all tasted good. Entrees were duck Al orange, steak-frites, salmon and beef stew. Every dish was yummy. Also , they have very good wines at reasonable prices!
Went to our go to restaurant again for brunch. Lobster Benedict was superb. A very workable wine list and prices less than Richard Walkers Pancake House. What more could you want
We received a gift certificate to this restaurant and gave it a try. Soooooo glad we did. When we first walked in the casual nature of the interior was concerning. However, the service and food made us forget about that. We shared the bistro salad and it was dressed perfectly. The complementary bread with dipping sauce were massively tasty. The steak with Bearnaise sauce were sublime served with the best mashed potatoes ever. The frites were served piping hot and tasty. Maybe could have been a tad more crispy.....45 more seconds in the fryer, however still really good. The Moules in the gorgonzola sauce is bathed in flavor and some of the best I have ever had. Too bad no room for dessert. We will definitely return.
There for a mid-week dinner to celebrate an anniversary - food was delicious and service was amazing. The host/waitress was by herself the entire time we were there besides the cooks, and she still managed to get everyone seated, orders placed and food delivered to each table in a timely manner. Honestly didn’t feel like we had to wait for anything at all. I’m so sorry I didn’t get her name but she was the best (Tues 12/28). We ordered the lobster bisque and clam chowder, both tasty. Also had the moules canpagnardes, calamari, pomme frites and the diver scallops for appetizers and also the steak frites and raviolis for entrees. All delicious!
Great food!! Sit back and enjoy and a great date night place!!
Fabulous menu and delicious authentic French fare at a very reasonable price. Great location near Balboa Park.
Amazing food and excellent service, always! Their Moules campagnardes are the best I’ve ever had! I will always be back whenever the French food cravings kick in.
This place is top! Highly recommended.
I love this restaurant and have been to it several times but this last time they were skimping on the escargot, one was missing under the cracker and the charcuterie board was a joke for how much it was with small pieces of cheese and two jellies.
Otherwise the food was good
We were 6. We went at 430 so it was empty and parking ample. There was only one wait person the whole time we were there so we excused not getting more attention as the place began to fill. Not much comment from the 3 that had soup and salad. The steak, duck and pork were all excellent and some of the best we've had. I had the pork with the cherry sauce and absolutely couldn't get enough. Only wished it came with vegetables and not just potatoes. Wasn't too keen on the cheese and meat appetizer plates but the others seem to enjoy them. I also prefer butter with my bread instead of what was served with it. All in all, I would dine here again and probably have the same entree.
Absolutely awful experience. Organized a group dinner to try this place out and instantly regretted it. It was immediately clear that the 2 servers working the restaurant had never been properly trained. Service was terrible and took forever. Drink orders took over 20 minutes. When the food finally came, appetizers were brought at the same time as entrees. The quality of the food was extremely poor across all of the ordered dishes. Will never return here, it's a huge insult to what is expected from a French cuisine and dining experience.
So sad - we have been coming here for over two years and supported during peak of covid which this restaurant has not caught up with the rest and do not have sufficient staffing nor management. I frantic female server and one cook were all that were on. 30 min for a glass of wine and 40 minutes for an order of charred escargot then an additional 25 min for entree which she forgot the key item ordered which was frittes with your mussels. Soggy half cooked fries that were not even the same as the past two years. Sorry we will not go back - off the list of places to dine.
Chose this restaurant because my twins are studying French in high school. Wanted to take them to a French restaurant that had a menu items listed in French. Everything was fantastic! The service was great the food was great! My twins each tried something new. I have the mussels and they were very good. I will definitely eat here again
Great place for lunch. Full menu, lots to choose from.
very nice experience overall! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!
This place is a hidden gem. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. The mushroom ravioli was clearly freshly made in house and served with a zesty yet rich sauce. My husband’s sea bass with risotto was easily the star of the meal. Our carnivorous friends loved their steak frites and duck. Good wine selection at unbelievable prices. Will definitely go back here and highly recommend to others!
Delicious food - everyone was happy with their selections. Wish they had their old bread from a few years back - delicious baguettes - Curren bread isn't great. Will be back for the chicken and gnocchi .
A classic French small bistro except there is not a husband and wife team always on the floor and in the kitchen, so not a lot of personality. But, it is unpretentious and the basics are done well. If there is a stuffed quail special order it - beautiful presentation and very tasty. Wines are fairly priced and often the wine of the day by the bottle is an exceptional value.
Amazing food, outstanding service. Great place. First time having French food, very satisfying
Best eggs Benedict in town!! Highly recommend this restaurant!
I’m from out of town but have been here many times. It’s one of my favorite French bistros in the states. Happy to say the food was as great as always, but man has the service gone down hill. The servers just aren’t adequately trained or experienced, and weren’t very attentive despite the restaurant not even being half full. Ordered a bottle of wine and not once did the server refill anyone’s glasses the whole evening. And there something really off putting about servers that speak broken English with Spanish accents at a French restaurant. I guess the bistro has just fallen victim to the staffing shortages that every service venue has experienced trying to recover from the pandemic. But a little management oversight (couldn’t even tell if there was a manager in duty) and staff that cared could fix that.
Great food for a reasonable price. Will go back many more times.
The food was excellent 😋
This is a favorite of ours. We had mussels to start. Seriously they are in season and we the best we ever had--plump oh so plump . I had sea bass and everyone else had airline chicken.
Just like a small bistro in France this place sings
Not at all fancy but serves up large portions of excellent French food. Service is friendly and prices are quite reasonable. My only quibble is that the don't offer regular coffee, only Americano and the usual lattes.
We had a lovely dinner! Good was spectacular! Highly recommend it!
Funny that I was hoping for a romantic French experience but the cook was Mexican and the waitress talked to us in Spanish. Food was good but they serve a mayonnaise mix with the bread instead of butter. I mean what’s more French than butter???
Wonderful authentic French bistro. The food was awesome and at a great value . Very good wine list as well. One of those true neighborhood gems one finds.
The main course is the highlight of the main. The stake & fries are substantial, but the Bass with Risotto is excellent.
The food is excellent. The place is cozy.
Above expectations. Had a great dining experience,
Really, the food is consistently good. And it's quiet enough that conversation is possible.
I wish more effort was put into details: the menus are dirty and food-stained. Food is not swept up from under the tables. Each time I've been there recently there've been no paper supplies in the restrooms.
Such observations do not inspire confidence in what the kitchen conditions might be like, and do not add to the dining-out experience.
Delicious dinner in Hillcrest! Great menu in quaint restaurant.
The waiter was wonderful and I like how spaced out the inside tables are from one another. French onion soup was a winner.
Delicious food, excellent service, lovely date night overall.
Delicious food and excellent service. Would definitely come back for the beef bourguignon.
Too salty, menu not up to date
Casual atmosphere with very friendly and attentive waitstaff and excellent food at a fair price. Beer/wine only; no full bar.
I’ve eaten French food in France a number of time and was not sure how the food would taste. I was very pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious. I will definitely be returning in the future.
