   I booked because it said this was an award winning gastro pub, so I trusted this should be a safe bet for a nice Sunday dinner after an amazing show at the Royal Albert Hall. But I was wrong. The Sunday roast (lamb) was totally unappealing to the eye, the taste buds were just about satisfied. We both got lukewarm meat. The attentive waiter who asked if everything was ok with our food quickly returned the plates to the kitchen and we received a new plate with slightly warmer meat. All other parts on the plate were hot though. The plate of food felt rushed and loveless, the Yorkshire pudding was not home-made as they all looked too alike which I found disappointing for a £26 meal. The vegetables were pretty dry like they had been lying in waiting since lunch time service. Overall a big downer after seeing Gladiator with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The Malbec was a good choice of wine, smooth and complex.

   Amazing ambiance. Cocktails were nice. Cosy atmosphere and great service.

   We returned to Anglesea arms today to celebrate Mother’s Day with relatives. I had a reservation, and we were warmly welcomed and offered a table outside (my request) on a beautiful day. Everything took forever…from getting water, to order drinks, to ordering our food, to getting each of the courses ordered. For 4 of us, on a day where the menu was largely limited due to Mother’s Day, it took over 3 hours to dine. Not what I expected for Sunday roast. The food was excellent as I expected.

   The pub is beautifully decorated and we had a lovely drink in the sun before being seated. However the set menu lunch (where we were asked to order all 3 courses at the start) took 3 and a half hours. Service was incredibly slow, half the table’s desserts arrived 20 minutes before the other half’s. Throughout the meal no one once communicated that there would be a wait, or came over to apologise. After 45 minutes of our mains being cleared and no one coming over to us, I went to find a supervisor and I tried to feedback that we had been waiting a long time but I felt very brushed off. And at the end of meal when the bill arrived I explained I wasn’t happy to pay the service charge and it was removed but there was no supervisor around to talk to. No one explained why service was so slow and very little apology was made. The food was fine, but the experience was a let down , especially for the price point.

   Good starters and desserts but have had better roast meat and roast potatoes elsewhere. Booking online we were given choice of usual Sunday menu or Mother’s Day three course menu. Chose the former as knew many of group would only want one course. But on arrival told we had to have the three course menu which effectively doubled the price.

   This place has a great atmosphere, great service, a good wine selection and phenomenal food! I had their beef Wellington and my husband had the venison. Both were perfectly prepared! I highly recommend this pub!

   Delicious food in a nice neighborhood. Enjoyed the lobster crumpet and scotch eggs. Husband liked the lamb roast and I enjoyed my fish and chips. Great evening!

    My girlfriend and I live right next door the Anglesea and frequent it on Saturday afternoons and random week nights for a delicious meal. Never once have we been disappointed. Don’t be shy- order the burger.
