Aioli Bodega Espanola
Very beautiful interior but the Maitre D was not welcoming and the food was good but not great. The waiter was quite nice.
If you’re lucky enough to get a table on a busy night, you’ll be pleased with the quality of the food and attentiveness of the service. The ingredients are fresh and tasty and you feel you stepped into a gem in Spain itself. Beware, however, that the dining rooms are small and the ventilation is not the best, so you are likely to smell like the kitchen upon leaving for the evening. Nevertheless, the food is worth the minor inconvenience. Enjoy!
First tme visitor. Big fan of Spanish food, so I was looking forward to soma tapas and paella. Started with a pitcher of sangria. They spice the sangria, which is new to me. I didn't dislike it but I also didn't think it added anything either. For the tapas, the chicken skewers and meatballs were delicious. The potatoes with aioli were nothing special and I wouldn't order again. The paella valenciana was a beautiful work of art, just stuffed with seafood and chicken. So stuffed it was hard to get to the rice. That's a good problem to have. We had 5:00 PM Saturday reservations, and the restaurant was full and noisy by 5:30. Service was a little slow, but the manager (owner?) was present and checked in often, and the paella only took 30 minutes instead of the quoted 45. We live in the Bay Area so I thought the prices were reasonable compared to similar restaurants there.
Everything was wonderful. The food is classic, fresh, and delicious. The ambiance was romantic with their live music. I would definitely recommend, and we will be coming back!
The service was really amazing. I really enjoyed Chuelton con curry. It was a great Mix of beef short rib/polenta/Jamaican curry. Great location. The only reason I gave the restaurant a four in some areas revolves around the menu and the papas bravas. Fist impressions matter. The paper menus had to be unfolded. They were wrinkly and dirty. The menu was much too complicated to read. If the menu situation can be resolved, there is no stopping this fantastic tapas place. The papas bravas were overcooked. The service really was superb. The rest of the dishes were tasty. The seafood was fresh and delightful. If you are craving authentic Spanish seafood tapas, this is the perfect place. That’s what I was craving and that is what they cooked for me. I was delighted.
The food choices and quality has always been exceptional every visit we’ve made here. Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. They also have one of the best Dine Downtown Sacramento menus in town!
Dinner before a play with my mom and aunt.🥰
To be completely honest, this was maybe the fourth or fifth time at Aioli and this was our least favorite. First, the calamari was chewy and tough to eat. This was the first time ever that I left calamari on my plate. Secondly, the restaurant was so loud that my wife and I joked about texting each other rather than trying to hear the other’s comments. Something needs to be done to fix the sound on busy nights. The guitar player was one table away and we never heard him. If a couple cannot hear each other from across a small table and the calamari was over cooked, it might be tough to get us to come back.
My girlfriend and I were celebrating the acceptance of her new career and so it was a special date night occasion. We had a reservation for 6:45p but didn’t sit down till 7:30p because it was unusually busy for a Wednesday evening. The Dine Downtown was in full swing so the restaurant was packed and was the reason our reservation was pushed well beyond the time. It was fine because we sat down to a couple, Michael and Will, who were very kind and welcoming which made the experience worth the wait. We were served our appetizers and wine at the bar as well as our table, all while being entertained with the couple next to us. The service was prompt and knowledgeable about the menu and we never felt neglected. Finally the food arrived and to our delight it was just as we anticipated, delicious. There was even enough for leftovers that we took home. Overall the experience was a wonderful evening at a restaurant that always delivers on service, delicious food, and great ambiance.
The ambience is lovely, and the food is delicious. Definitely a top spot for Spanish food in Sacramento.
We went for Dine Downtown and were disappointed in all respects except service and wine recommended. The seafood was rubbery. The beet and orange salad was ruined by the addition of flavorless and out-of—season tomatoes. The desserts were equally disappointing. Probably one of the worst meals I’ve had in a restaurant in Sacramento in recent memory.
Wonderful experience beginning to end! We chose Aioli to celebrate a 90-year and 64-year-old’s birthdays during Dine Downtown week. The menu was very inviting with more than one option in each course, and everything was delicious with great service. Good wine recommendation for a Spanish wine. We always look forward to going back to Aioli.
Excellent food and service. Loved the ambiance and live guitar music in the background. Had a lovely table by the window. We’ll definitely return.
Had an outstanding New Years Eve dinner here. Food was excellent as was the entire evening. Great recommendations from the staff too. New favorite spot in town!
New Year’s Eve early dinner
This Spanish restaurant is excellent. The wait staff is wonderful and the lessons they provide on Spanish cuisine are outstanding! The paella, which was modified to avoid my wife's allergies to shellfish, was fantastic. The tapas were very interesting and flavorful.
I believe this restuarant has some unique dishes, haven't tried them yet, bit worth exploring.
Love this place. We have so many restaurants in walking distance now we only make here 3 times or so in a year (it's a 10 min drive). My husband and I have been going here since our son was in a carrier. He is 22 now. When we lived further away we still made it here once a year! Best Service & Tapas in Sac! Try the oxtail!
Always a delight to have dinner on Christmas Eve! it's a family tradition we look forward to every year!
Had a great dinner here! Food was excellent, reasonably priced. The portion sizes were a bit unpredictable. For example the duck was nearly entree sized (and amazing!), while the mushroom ravioli had literally just 3 small ravioli? Ambiance was lovely—had a live guitar player! The servers was well intentioned, but seemed inexperienced. One kept trying to take my mother’s plate when she wasn’t finished eating. Overall good meal and would come back.
My party and I dined here for the first time. Having never had Spanish cuisine, we wanted to try out a place that seemed to get good reviews. We arrived a bit late for our reservation (parking!) but had no trouble being seated. The lighting was low and the table had a small tea light setting a very romantic mood. There was a gentleman playing spanish guitar nearby which really added to the ambiance. I do wish there had been a bit more space between us and the table next to us, but it didn't make the dining experience uncomfortable. We briefly reviewed the menu and selected a few dishes. We weren't sure how much to order though and would have welcomed an orientation of sorts from our server. We wanted paella but couldn't choose from the multiple variations available. We went with the paella valenciana, pechuga de pato (duck breast). During the time between when we ordered and the time we got our food, we interacted with at least 3 different staff people checking in on us. They were very attentive, even doing things like refilling our water using the bottle that had been left on the table.
Our food arrived in a very timely manner. Though the paella was good, without a doubt, we preferred the pechuga de pato to the paella. The flavor was richer. All said and done, including drinks, we spent a little over $100 total for 2 people. It was a nice experience that I would recommend to people looking for a nicer place to have a romantic dinner.
Nice place to take a date. Live music and romantic Spanish ambiance. Pallea was amazing!
I love Aioli. The ambiance is cozy and lovely, but this time the food was lacking in flavor. We had curry short ribs and we could barely taste the curry, and it was hard to cut. The meat did not fall off the bone like it normally does. The scallops lacked flavor and the raviolis were stuck together and little oily for me. I will continue to dine at Aioli in the future but thought you needed to know. Thank you and Merry Christmas.
The festive holiday atmosphere was beautiful! There was background holiday music by a Spanish guitarist which added nicely to the ambiance. For families with children there was an amazing Mr and Mrs Santa walking through the restaurant in amazing costumes engaging with the diners! The noise level was incredibly loud such that 3 of us at a round table could barely hear each other talk. We shouted the entire evening. The food was creative and good. Flavors were nicely balanced and the lamb cubes were a favorite as was the endive and pear salad special. The service was good for as busy and packed as they were! I’d return after the holidays to try it again to see if the noise level is always this high!
This was our second visit to Aioli Bodega Española. We had the paella de mariscos and it was fantastic!!! It didn't take quite the 45 minutes suggested on the menu; we were occupied with either sangria or a fine white wine, bread, and a camarones appetizer. Our server was very attentive, had great recommendations, not hovering but present. All the food arrived hot and within good time. For dessert, we split the flan and it was delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday meal!
Creative & Delicious food. Getting the right table in this restaurant is also key to having a good evening. Ensure you are not in the bar area as that can be quite congested.
Good food. Great selection of Spanish wines. Knowledgeable service staff. A bit slow from the start, but finished well. Will go back…
Great as always. One of our favorites.
Everything was perfect.
The food was excellent (as always) and I will definitely be back.
My one complaint was the waiter. While attentiveness is good, this waiter would not leave us alone. He was over-attentive, coming to our table every few moments to ask questions, refill water (when only a sip had been taken), or clear plates that still had food on them. He kept insisting on taking pictures for us and we had to repeat that we didn't want any pictures.
Good service is wonderful, but also know where to draw the line--we wanted to have a conversation, not be interrupted by the waiter every five minutes. Please let your patrons sit and enjoy their food and conversation without being disrupted repeatedly.
Service was slow. Food was good. Waitress threw three plates of take home into one take home container so my vegetarian husband won’t eat it now and I really don’t carw for soggy potato bravadas.
Won’t return even though food was good. Took forever to request our second drink.
We loved this place. The food was amazing and the prices for lunch were very reasonable. Would definitely go back!!
Great service, love sitting outside on the patio
The shrimp linguini special was amazing and the pasta was perfectly cooked. The charcuterie tapa with chorizo, olives, and manchego cheese was a great starter.
Sat outside on the patio. It was lovely.
Quiet, elegant dining with dishes that will entertain the most distinguished connosieurs
I had been wanting to try this restaurant and finally made reservations. I ordered the prime rib and was completely disappointed. The steak was dry, over cooked and was topped with their own speciality sauce with made the whole thing worse. My advice - don’t order steak here ! They did however have a good wine selection and the service was friendly and fun . I might go back just to try a different dish so I’m not writing this place off completely just yet .
Romantic and great food
One of my top favorite restaurants in the Sacramento area. Always a treat to be there.
