This was our second visit to Addison. It had been several years and the evolution is impressive! We felt that the dishes were beautifully composed and were super tasty. The caviar and rice as well as the golden eye snapper were our favorite dishes of the night. Oh, the truffle with tamale was also amazing! The service was excellent too- they noticed I was cold and brought a pillow to me that they warmed by the fire! Made me felt like a queen!

The food was good & the experience was fine. However, the menu was presented very incorrectly (almost deceitfully). We were told that we came at the right time when a particular truffle (Australian black, I believe) & wagyu was a part of the menu & “culinary experience”. What we didn’t know is that it was not a part of the experience but rather, an option to add on. We found that out after receiving the bill. I have no issue spending money on a good meal…the issue is that we did know that we were “agreeing” to something. I actually would have opted out of both, had I known what the deal actually was. I’ve had that cut of meat before so I wasn’t “wowed” by it and would’ve liked to see what other main course the chef had put together. I’m a major foodie so this issue definitely put a damper on the experience that I was really looking forward to.

Addison is a beautiful restaurant nestled around the Del Mar Golf Course and Resort. This is our second visit there. Unfortunately there likely won't be a third. The tasting experience is just that. An experience. Any time you have such a 'menu' you are at the mercy of the chef; and you hope that some or most of the courses align with your tastes. In this case, of the 9 courses and roughly 20 different 'dishes', some were very tasty; but only two would be, in our opinion, worthy of return. Service. Excellent. UNLESS you would consider the 'hiding' of the 'menu items' part of his 'service'. We hadn't been there for at least 5 years, and the menu was totally different. We were not given a 'menu' of any kind so we could decide what we wanted. We understood about the 9 course 'tasting menu' - but the offense (in our minds) was the 'extras' that the server pushed on us. He offered a truffle 'extra' and a wagyu 'extra' without disclosing the additional price. Later we discussed the wine. We went with a white wine to begin, then halfway through a red. We asked for a list; and instead he talked us into getting a Cabernet that we had no idea would be $80 a glass (plus tax and tip) for at least $115 - $120 a glass. Look - we aren't poor, and we aren't cheap. We truly enjoy fine dining. BUT when the 'extras' doubled the price of the tasting, and we had no idea - that was offensive. Not a little offensive - but a lot offensive. For the money AND ESPECIALLY the food - we much prefer The Market Del Mar, which we have truly enjoyed for years. For our taste - money aside - The Market kitchen is SUPERIOR to Addison. Sorry.

Looking at all of these 5-star reviews I feel bad that we didn't have a good experience. We were running 15 minutes late (partner started her period while we were on the way and had to stop). We called the restaurant prior to our reservation to notify them, but after a long pre-recorded message, it went straight to voicemail. No one answered and there was no option to speak to a host. Also seems weird that no valet is being offered right now when Amaya next door has one. Upon arrival we were greeted by two hostesses at their desk. Not sure why no one answered the phone. It took another 20 minutes to be seated. Immediately upon being seated we were pitched the A5 wagyu and truffle upsell. We thought this was a bit tacky, and there was not offer of "I'll let you talk about it and be back in a minute." Our waiter wanted an answer immediately. No disclosure of the prices in person, or even on their website for these upsells. We thought it was odd there were no menus being offered. My partner and I both thought the music was confusing. The volume constantly changed throughout the evening. Sometimes it was entirely inaudible, other times, the volume was much louder and interrupted conversation. At one point they were playing bird sounds. Our servers were well choreographed, but overall cold/stiff — save for a female sommelier who was personable and fantastic. Three hours and at no point in time did any waiters take note that I was left handed and set new cutlery down on the appropriate side. Despite me placing my water/wine glasses on the left side, and numerous waiters walking up to the table while I held cutlery in my left hand. Perhaps we had an off night. But I also think Addison can get away with this being the only two Michelin star restaurant in San Diego county. Compared to every Michelin star experience I've had in New York, this fell extremely short.

The stars this restaurant has earned are well deserved. From the moment you are greeted at the entrance to the multiple staff wishing you a good evening on your departure, everything is impeccably done. The presentation of the dishes by the servers is like a ballet. Every dish was executed perfectly and so beautifully plated. We were particularly pleased with the service from the sommelier Dan. He was so friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the wines he was pouring. Really gave us good background on the vintner, the region, what tasting notes to expect and why he chose each wine to compliment the dish they were served with. Excellent.

First time visiting any Michelin star restaurant. Addison has 2 Michelin stars!! I loved the customer service, the knowledgeable staff, the food, the desert, the wine, the bathroom, the little granola jar they give you on the way out, I can go on & on. You just gotta visit to experience errthang!! Olivi-A was our sommelier & if you’re reading this thanks! You’re the real MVP & Chef William too lol. I wish I can visit more Michelin star restaurants & compare each food journey to each other. Be prepared to spend 3-4hours on your food journey. I highly recommend Addison!

The service was amazing! Everyone works really hard! We had the best table in the house! We thought the food was just as good as George’s at the Cove and Nine-Ten. 3 hours was too long for us to sit and eat….2 hours would have been plenty. We picked a bottle of wine we thought was $145.00 but we’re charged $200 which I didn’t see until we got home. We wished we had gone with the wine pairing although we didn’t know how much extra it would cost. We paid $1000.00 for the evening. Fun experience but don’t plan to return!

Been to Addison probably 8-10 times and this will be the last. Find them more and more interested in taking as much of your money as possible, and less interested in providing a unique experience. Limiting to a 9 course menu, with no other options. Probably would have selected that anyway but annoying that one has no choice, and that it wasn’t disclosed, nor was the price until the bill arrived. We of course we’re generally aware of the pricing from prior visits but still disrespectful to not disclose. Seems sneaky. Bill with tip was $1500 for 2 people. Also, one One would assume you would get at least a dessert or a glass of champagne when you note that it’s your anniversary celebration and you’re paying the kind of prices you’re paying. But of course that was totally ignored as well.

A few dishes were on the salty side. The A5 wagyu beef had a big piece of fat on the side, instead of marbleized in between the meat. That part should have been cut off, and not considered as part of the premium cut. The overnight flown over Australian winter truffles were lack luster. It did not have the fragrance as truffle should have, it sure looked like a black truffle, but it was just an imposter. Lastly, the desserts were too sweet, Americanized maybe, not the French style I expected from Addison.

Beware, however, of sticker shock. It’s pretty expensive but well worth it when thinking about value.
