We wanted to bid farewell to Accanto and the regretted Genoa since Chef Erik Van Kley decided to abandon ship. Apparently, it's reported, he had lost interest. Alas, this neighborhood bistro has long been beloved by many. Unfortunately, this last meal was marred by the same tragic over-salting that made Chef Erik's menu at Tailor Railworks so unpalatable. Two of three dishes were Dead Sea salty. We appreciated that the waiter comped us one of those. RIP Accanto!
We ordered Tapas for a relatively quick meal. The server arranged it into multiple courses with breaks in between. Dinner took forever.Getting the server’s attention was difficult. A few dishes were interesting, but overall average food. Would not go back.
So sad this restaurant is closing. Their impact on the neighborhood has been beyond measure. I am going to miss their divine menu and impeccable service! Thank you for everything! May you see so much success in your next endeavor 💗
Really disappointed by this experience. I’ve been to this restaurant many times and never had a bad experience here until this evening. Everything was great until the check arrived. First, we asked it be split and then it was returned woefully low (half price). We told the manager of the issue. Then it was over based on bottles of wine billed a third higher than quoted. The manager then tried to negotiate that we pay 50% higher than quoted due to error. We said absolutely no. Manager was than extremely rude. This was one of my favorite restaurants in Portland, but never again. Horrible attitude for a loyal return customer and just bad service. They’ve lost my business forever...
So sad they are closing!
pasta waaaaaay too salty
I reserved a table but arrived early, so I ended up at the bar. No matter, the bartender served me, providing expert advice on wine and food. My eyes were glued to the chefs who work behind a section of the bar. Accanto has lovely, creative Italian food. I love the strozzapretti ("Priest-stranglers") with a lamb and goat cheese ragu. I also enjoyed excellent gelato and a smoked rose that was almost too red to be rose. A lovely treat!
Innovative, wonderful ambiance, inventive food and well priced for dish sizes and quality. Highly recommend.
Delicious food, friendly service. What more do you want?
Everything was exceptional - from the martini, to the peach, tomato ricotta salad, to the goat cheese gnocchi. Start to finish a delight along with excellent service
Best meal we’ve had in a restaurant in a long time. We had the peach glazed pork shoulder and the albacore tuna. Both were very flavorful and delicious. Will definitely go again!
Have always enjoyed Accanto, and this time was equally good. Menu has been changed to offer small plates which were wonderful. Only thing I would change is quieter music.
A consistently high quality dining experience
Best restaurant in Portland! Creative take on Italian food.
Amazing server who had perfect recommendations. Delicious meal! Can’t wait to go back.
Accanto never disappoints. Their creativity is only exceeded by their flawless execution. The bartenders are not to be overlooked because their cocktails are delicious. Enjoyed my dinner immensely.
Order the Pasta!!!!
Service was slow, food was okay and servers were disconnected
I had eaten here before and remembered it as a fairly quiet place with excellent food. This time, the food was excellent as well, but the noise level (of which the music was a big part) was high, making conversation difficult. I had read that it changed hands in the past year or two, which might explain it. The staff appeared to be on the young side, and in my opinion, the music in many of these restaurants is for the benefit of the staff, not the customers. Maybe it gets them energized when their shifts start, but diners aren't there to get energized -- they're there to relax and enjoy the experience.
The food is outstanding: the green bean salad was colorfully and flavorfully crafted. The squid ink pasta was savory and more full of flavor accents than other versions of the dish I've had before. The pork shoulder with a grilled peach was a superb seasonal dish.
The staff did a good job recommending wine for the dishes we chose--and the by-the-glass wines are not throw-away experiences. The also did a good job of topping of our glasses gratis when our food was slower than expected. That said, they were quite haphazard in their approach to setting the table and changing tableware at the end of courses.
At Accanto's price point, the presentation at table should rise up a notch.
My husband and I love Accanto; the wine is fantastic and their Squid Ink Spaghetti is divine!!
Hi there, I mean this not for everyone but for management as feedback. My food was out of this world. My friend's albacore was only "okay" but everything else on her plate was outstanding. My main feedback is why a place like yours with such attention to detail plays such loud music that we had to talk above. It is not romantic or classic or a place for a group because of the volume. I know it's the hipster thing but does it have to be that way. And even the choice of music. Who are you trying to delight or pleasure with that?
Other than that, I love you!
Excellent Italian food including small plates, entrees & pasta
Our dinner was delicious. We loved the cacio e Pepe fritters. The dipping sauce was smoky & yummy. Also, the lumache & the squid ink pasta dishes were very tasty. Our server was very attentive.
We were visiting from Canada and staying nearby. It was shocking how good the food was. We were celebrating 17 years of marriage. Just enjoyed the nice atmosphere. Service was excellent too. You won't be disappointed.
Wonderful night, as my wife and I celebrated our anniversary. Pork ribs were perfect, the pasta dish was to die for and the service was outstanding. I highly recommend Accanto for any occasion.
Very special attention given to the preparation of each dish, from starter to dolce, presentation and taste.
Best Italian food ever! Very creative take on traditional recipes.
Always a friendly ......and creative effort here, one of our "go to" favorites.
service was great, but every dish we had was really salty. Wish we could have liked this place more because the ambiance was nice.
Nice place. Small plates really good. In Europe they give bread. Just saying. Wine list by the glass pretty good
Great range of menu options and personable service. A little noisy but not bothersome. Will return eagerly.
We had a wonderful evening, the food was fantastic (with some unexpected and interesting pairing of flavors), and having the 9PM reservation was really nice as the room was quiet (even with other parties there).
Excellent meal at Accanto! One of the best I have had in Portland. and that's saying something. Amazing squid ink spaghetti. cured meats, olives, goat cheese gnocchi. Loved that we could share small plates. Very well done and fun to watch them prepare in the kitchen!.
We had 7:30 reservations for a party of four. Overall experience was good and the food and drinks were delicious. However, dinner took a long time to be served. Drinks and appetizers came quickly, but the lag between appetizers and our main courses was longer than expected.
For years this was our favorite restaurant. Under the new chef the menu has taken a decided turn, with many dishes on the small menu reflecting his fondness for spiciness. We don't share that passion and so we now find fewer dishes that we really want to order. We usually start with an order of fritto misto, and it has been consistently excellent in the past, the simple, clean, unadulterated flavors of the seafood and its accompanying vegetables shining through. In its current rendition it has a fairly aggressive heat level and though the elements were nicely crisp and light, the components were indistinguishable from one another.
For my entree I had the albacore with romesco. It was a very generous portion--4 medallions, perfectly cooked, but surrounded by a sea of romesco. I love romesco but it is rich and bold and the dish seemed unbalanced to me, the romesco dominating every element of the dish.
Service was friendly and well informed as always, and the wine selections are good. The summer berry sorbetto was a nice, cooling end to an overly spiced dinner.
We will undoubtedly be back but with somewhat less enthusiasm than before.
Excellent food. Excellent menu. Initial service okay, another server saved the day. I left her a 20% tip. I was truly pleased overall. I live in the neighborhood but would encourage anyone to make the trip to enjoy the food.
You can't go wrong with the pasta creations and wine choices. We drove down from Ridgefield, Wa. due to the reviews on Yelp and Trip Advisor.
Accanto exceeded our expectations.
