717 South Ratings and Reviews
I was really impressed. The Risotto was wonderful. We also shared the special that day, grouper with gnocchi and something else that I've forgotten but the meal wasn't forgettable, it was delicious, the fish was cooked perfectly and not loaded down with sauce so you could enjoy the taste of the fish. We had a booth and we could hear each other talk (business meal at 7pm) which to me is the most important thing. We were staying at the Marriott Waterside and it was just an $8.00 Uber ride away so very convenient. The area is really hopping with restaurants. The Uber driver said it would be packed by 9pm (it was Saturday night). Would highly recommend this restaurant. Also to me from Boston area, very good value, food was exceptional for the price.
Haven’t been to 717 in a couple of years and it once again did not disappoint! Scheduled through Open Table and were promptly seated by a friendly hostess. My risotto was so creamy and the scallops were cooked to perfection. My husband and friend both ordered the seared tuna and it was cooked perfectly. Her husband ordered the steak and also cooked perfectly rare. Our waiter proactively split our salads which were both delicious! Wonderful meal and experience.
Food was good but nothing earth shaking, especially for the money. Service was very good. Atmosphere was good, but a little noisy. I wouldn’t go back simply because of the price/value. I have eaten at many other “hot spots” for the same price but with a more creative menu .
One of my favorite SOHO dining spots in Tampa. Food and service were exceptional. On site free parking is a big plus. Gereous portions that are well prepared and a few specials makes a nite out here very enjoyable. If it's for a special ocassion or just looking for a great place to have a great dinner, this is the place to go. Our server, Anthony, was very helpful in explaining our choices and gave us his typical, way above average service and attention.
I feel horrible for saying this but almost every time we dine at 717 South I leave underwhelmed. It is easy to get a last minute reservation and the service is always excellent(Obviously great management) but the food is just ok. Nothing special. Not particularly tasty and does not leave me wanting to return for more. The bread was served luke warm to cold and the tasty marinara dip was cold(usually served warm). Both of our meals were just ok. The chocolate flourless cake tasted store bought and we only had a few bites(which almost never happens when a good dessert is placed in front of me). I suggest they get a new chef or revamp the menu to improve the food. Otherwise, I love the location and the awesome service. I am very sorry for leaving such an average review but this place needs to improve.
I enjoyed the Art Deco Artwork on the walls. The overall feel of the restaurant was comfortable. Our waiter, Joshua, was attentive and personable. The lamb chop appetizer was excellent - flavors were spot on and cooked to perfection. The Calamari was great, the sauces that accompanied them, I felt did not compliment that dish; they were bland. The lasagna was right on point and the salmon done nicely.
Parking was convenient this time at 717 and the food was very good. Portions were generous so we both took a box with half of our meal in it. On the comfort food side, the lasagne was well done and we also enjoyed the crab cake appetizer. This is a place to go for just good old comfort food and the bonus is that they have an excellent wine list as well as good wait staff.
I have enjoyed 717 South for several years, and the food is consistently good. Glad to see some new items on the menu since my last visit, since the list is not extensive.
My only complaint was that the music was quite loud and percussive and repetitive for our entire visit. For a busy Friday evening, the music was a bad choice that caused everyone in the back to have to shout to converse.
Everything else was excellent.
The food was fantastic. Started we the sautéed calamari . Scumptous! Ordered the special Sea Bass. It was moist, flavorful, and delicious. The lasagna was very tasty. Cocktails were mixed perfectly. Our server Anthony was amazingly attentive and well informed. I highly recommend this restaurant!!
My wife and I are frequent patrons of 717 south, and usually have a fantastic time. This one missed the mark a bit.
I strayed from the rack of lamb and ordered the pork chop with jalapeño sweet mash, and it was delicious. My wife ordered scallops, while usually cooked great, were overdone. The wine by the glass we were served was bad - I'd recommend a policy that if it's open after a certain number of days, pour it out. That said, Paula did a great job of making it better without batting an eye. And the truffle fries were fantastic as always.
It was our anniversary! The front staff that took us to our table was welcoming and happy we came to 717 to celebrate! They were truly genuine (guy and a girl) Our server was ok. It was very busy. No bells and whistles. She said congrats as we were leaving but nothing more. Other restaurants put in a bit more effort!
