Great views, food and fabulous service. Our waitress, Lillian was extraordinary!
We two attended the 5 Palms for the seafood and the sunset. Neither disappointed, although at USD$225 (including tip) the price was high. Our server, Brian, was just perfectly attentive, not overbearing at all.
The view down the beach to the south, is spectacular.
The "Maui" lobster (Atlantic, but farmed locally) was quite good. The Wedge Salad could have used more blue cheese, and more dressing in general. And maybe a little bacon. My gold standard for Wedge Salad will always be the Gordon Biersch Pub in San Francisco.
Food preparation was excellent. Quality ingredients and interesting menu choices. Beautiful views of the ocean from most seating. Service staff friendly but not as attentive as you should expect at a $$ Restaurant. I understand that quality costs money, but this meal while good, left me feeling overcharged for what I got.
Lovely experience! Beautiful presentation on the, with equal sensations on the taste buds. Stunning view of the ocean as you dine.
The waitress was not interested in being there. Did not know the menu when asked about what was best to eat, or make suggestions and all in all she had a snooty attitude. The food itself was amazing which is too bad that the service did not compliment that. When you are spending this type of money at a restaurant the service needs to be stellar and I have had better at fast food restaurants than at 5 palms. If you want great food and poor service this is the place to go.
Nothing special. Had heard service was terrible but we had a great experience (with ?Brian?). Food was ok, nothing remarkable. Portion sizes are large but the prices still aren't commensurate; very overpriced. It is a beautiful setting but at night you really don't benefit from it.
Been going to Maui for 20 years and never been here before, perfect place. We got the best table in the house to watch the sun go down. Food was awesome, wait staff were great! We all loved it, we will be back next year! Thanks
buns used for the lobster salad roll were a bit dry and stale!!!
Great brunch looking with an awesome ocean view.
Great view and setting. Creative cuisine. My favorite is Breakfast/Lunch.
Best ocean views for Maui dining! Food is very good and service is excellent and FRIENDLY!
Fantastic views at sunset, great service and delicious food
I made the reservation for Sunday morning, after church, but the church service ran long and I had to change the reservation. They were very kind to accommodate us. The food is always great and the view is phenomenal.
Fabulous table. Kelly is a spectacular hostess who took special care of dietary needs. Food was delicious.
We were a little disappointed in the overall experience. We went to dine on New Years Day. The place looks nice, but super crowded and we could placed on a corner, even with a reservation. After ordering drinks, we were told quite a few items on the menu was unavailable due to selling out over the holiday. I ended up with the wedge salad, which was bland and completely underwhelming. My husband's ribs though were okay. Wouldn't go back or recommend unless you're there for a drink or two.
I really appreciated how the staff handled the new yea’s day crowd.
That was a New Year celebration during our long anticipated family vacation that we spent hungry. The food was completely inedible despite its premium price and was sent back to the kitchen, while the staff did not express any concern at all.
We had to go home and have leftovers instead.
Never I experienced an occasion that simple pasta dish was made so disgusting by even an amateur cook.
Shame on this restaurant. SHAME!
The reviewer from Vancouver (above) put it perfectly. We were warned about the food, but figured the ambiance would overrule that. Not at all. Gannons, Ferarros (4 seasons) Mama's Fish Market were well worth it though.....
Excellent meal and setting. We went at sunset on New Year's eve and had a bonus free fire works display on nearby Keawakapu Beach.
We have been there for lunch many times and never had a bad experience.
Glen & Brenda
Certainly underwhelmed with this place. Very pricy, quality of food was... meh... service.... let’s just say the girls could use a “let’s be happy and look like we like our job” course. If you have a reservation in the dining room and have never been to 5 Palms, please don’t wait for the rude waitress to tell you to carry on to the dining room because where you enter, it’s in the lounge area, just walk right thru. Won’t recommend or return 👎🏻
Excellent service, people that works there are very professional. Spectacular view
Really nice ocean front setting to watch the sunset. Brian our waiter was fantastjc and went above and beyond for my daughters birthday dinner. Food was really good! Ribs, steaks and lobster special were so good!
I had a terrible experience with the 5 Palms about a year ago, when I found a live worm in my rice. I figured it was a fluke, but it turned me off so much we didn't go back (and we live here). My son got married this week at the Mana Kai (from whom the restaurant leases it space), so he wanted to have dinner at the 5 Palms. His new in-laws are from Japan and wanted to enjoy the view. The food was okay, not great by any means, and it certainly wasn't worth the price we paid (over $575.00 for 7 people, which included only 4 beers and 1 glass of wine). Our server was a jerk, quite frankly, who was apparently annoyed that my son's in-laws do not speak English so my son had to interpret everything for him. He never came back to the table except to help serve and then he vanished until he brought the bill. It really was an unpleasant experience. I wish we had gone to Leilani's in Kaanapali instead.
We have been to Maui many times and never tried this restaurant . The setting is beautiful. The food was good to very good. Our server was way too casual and served us a drink that contained dairy after we told her about the allergies. This is unacceptable at this calibre of restaurant. This put a real damper on our evening.
We love Five Palms! Have been dining there since 1989, every time we come to Maui. Never been disappointed. Breakfast, lunch or dinner. Casual ( meaning you can wear shorts if you like) or fine dining. The ocean view is lovely and staff are very friendly.
We booked a table for Christmas Dinner, other reviews helping us decide. The three course meal was disappointing; bland salad to start, main a full plate that had probably been in a warmer for a while considering the coat on the potatoes and gravy. We can understand that they had a full service, but the last plates should still be as good as the first plates. Maybe better another night.
have gone here for Christmas dinner for many years, this year the food was mediocre ,the waitress we had seemed intent on ignoring us,when the buns were delivered to the table by a busboy I noticed we had no side plates I waved the waitress down to ask for some which she took from another table and dropped them on the edge of our table, soup was delivered by the busboy, asked him for a soup spoon said all they had was the teaspoon he brought with the soup as I tried to question that he turned and walked away, main course arrived while we were still having our soup and salad, again by a busboy who seeing we were still eating was puzzled as to where to put the plates, the next time we saw the waitress she walked by and deposited two forks on the table with no comment as to why, turned out they were for dessert, she came by again as we were eating the dessert and deposited the bill on the table again with absolutely no comment,i believe from the first encounter with her until we left she may have spoken two dozen words when taking our order, other than pouring the initial glass of wine she never returned again to top up our glasses
the restaurant I would say was only 3/4 full so I do not see being super busy as an excuse, suffice to say for the first time ever I did not leave any tip and this is also the first time I have ever written a downer review
Christmas Dinner. The food was fine but way overpriced. $59 USD for a plate of turkey, cranberries, yams, beans, stuffing, potatoes and gravy. Should have been $25-$30.
This is Christmas dinner. The older male waiter smelled like liquor and cigarettes!! First off..... very abrupt. Very dry personality. As our drinks neared bottom We we’re not even ask if we would like another!! We understand it was Christmas Day but We had not been there all day!! We arrived on time at 6:30 and We were done and heading out at 7:30. Don’t know if Wait Staff were possibly instructed to NOT offer more drinks as trying to Shuffle as many people in and out as possible?? Had to ask for more rolls and when they arrived they were pure dough in the center!! I formed a round Golf Ball out of one is how doughy they were!! The New York Steak was Good and the Scallop and Shrimp Pasta was good so overall the Food was decent!! This was our 3rd Christmas Dinner in a row at Five Palms. My 1 Drink I did have was VERY WEAK!! I’m NOT REAL SURE if it had ANY Alcohol in it?? I was just going to drink it and mention it to the Waiter (Brian B) when I ordered a second but a Gentleman going around to see how everybody was doing came close to the table so I mentioned it to Him. He went and brought Me a Shot of Dark Rum from the Bar to put in it. We seen Him do that for another table close to us as Well so NOT SURE what was going on with the Drinks either?? The Cosmo did seem to have a little punch to it. Overall, we will
not be having dinner at 5 Palms again. #very#sorry#wewent##
Great service. Good food. Were there for Christmas dinner and they were unable to make kids orders. Quite disappointed as there were a number of kids. Full meals were way too much and very expensive. Asked for plates so we could give them some of ours...reluctantly, they did.
Fantastic views, outdoor eating, and will go back.
Christmas dinner was amazing! The food & service were both outstanding!
Great Food, Great View, Great Service..only recommendation is that you don’t want a table near the open window, it can be a tad warm with the sun coming in. I would suggest requesting a booth.
Server was very low energy, no smiles , no personality or welcoming attitude.
Seats were covered in food.
Plate of turkey was costly and minimal.
My fish menu item also not enough for the price.
Left hungry and my whole family said it wasn’t worth the cost and a waste.
I wanted to experience going out somewhere while here for Christmas and gave a special experience on Christmas Day. Here one more week and hope to do better.
The waiter was good but the food assistant/busboy poor. Never filled up water , always served plate to the wrong person.
Service was poor and slow. Food was unexceptional for the price. Nice setting.
Waitress could care a less about being there or providing decent service. Food was terrible would not recommend.
Worst service I have ever had at a restaurant. We finally walked out after being left in the bar for half an hour because our table not ready on time, then our meal showed up cold after another hour at our table. We walked out
Unfortunately extremely disappointed with the food. I had the ribs which was super heavy and dark and the pairing was not a great match at all. My husband had the lamb which was good but for the price not great. Was hoping for a special dinner as this was our first meal as husband and wife and sadly, it was underwhelming and overpriced. Would not recommend! We both have palates that are usually easy to please and this was sub par at best.
Not too impressed with food or service, but sun set was nice on this location
