Saw that the restaurant had a points-special through Opentable and we were very happy with both the food and service. We split sushi and a gnocchi dish and I have to say both were comparable with some of the higher-end restaurants that we have been to on Maui. Definitely a spot to try that is under-the-radar.
No comment on this restaurant.
I just say, Terrible.
Dinner and Pupus from the happy hour menu was very good. Can't beat the location, right on the beach and a short walk from where we stayed.
Hostess was very pleasant and warm greeting. That and sunset view was the best part of whole experience. Waitress went MIA most of the night. My husband had to go find staff as we need stuff. My food was not great. The noodles were oily and rubbery. The price of each plate was so overpriced. I do not mind paying good money if food is great. Very disappointed.
My original dinner order was undercooked and they were very nice about bringing me a different fish dish which I really enjoyed. The manager checked up on me and they also gave us a discount. Great service!
I used to love the breakfast. But this tome it wasn’t great. My food was cold and the patty was over cooked and my eggs were terrible. I recommend people come here. But not sure I will anymore for breakfast.
All around good experience!
Great service and value for happy hour. However, don't sit on terrace because service extremely SLOW and you pay 3x as much for the same food.
The ambience is absolutely amazing specially with the open air location next to a beautiful beach. And the service is excellent too. However several of the dishes we had were poor in taste. The miso-based fish soup was unpalatable, and none of us finished it. It was too salty and overly fishy. That kind of set a bad tone for the rest of our meal. In fact most of the entrees were also too salty, as if the chef is heavy handed with salt. I tried the sushi, which was also kind of mediocre for the price with decent fish. I tried a bite from my kids mahi mahi and that was excellent! I would probably return again, but only for drinks and appetizers, not for dinner.
We were running late and they were very considerate when it came down to everything. We got there and already had our food ready for we ordered before the kitchen closed. The food was amazing and also the drinks. Totally love the ocean ambiance!
Wonderful ocean view and reasonably good service. Price point for the food was good and taste was above average. Enjoyed the time!
My wife has celiac, so we often judge (at least part of) our experience at a restaurant by how confidently a server can speak to which menu items have gluten, and which items can allow substitutions. For most people, gluten isn't and shouldn't be on their radar, but if you work at a restaurant, food allergies need to be standard job training. Everywhere.
I got a bit nervous when our server said that my wife would need to stay away from one menu item "because of the rice". We were able to correct her and say that rice does not have gluten, but for us, any mistakes like that leave us very uneasy; what other items do or don't they know about the gluten content?
The pork ribs I got were fantastic- fell right off the bone; and we ended up with a meal for my wife that we were confident didn't have gluten, and she was pleased too.
That said, I left with kind of a negative experience because of our server, the cherry on top being a moment where she asked me "do you want your roll?", insinuating that it was included and though my wife wouldn't be having one, I should at least get mine. Turns out, that roll cost $12. How about phrasing that question a little differently?
Great ambience outside and good food, but the service was lousy.
Disappointed. We’ve dined here on other occasions and the food was great. This time food was just bland and the service was not good. Our waitress took our order and brought our check. No checkin no nothing. Should have gone to Nicks!
Very nice place with a fantastic view for susets!!!!
The meal with the ribs was not good, because one part of the ribs were old and warmed up.
The two fish meals were o.k, but not really good.
The location is ideal with a beautiful outdoor patio overlooking to ocean. The menu sounded very enticing but the plates were sloppily presented and flavors muddy.
July- 3 course meal special was good!
Caesar salad, lobster/filet and chocolate mousse dessert. It was good.
Had the lobster and steak special and it was good. Nice view of the beach.
Nice family dinner by the beach was amazing !!
Great food and lovely atmosphere. We loved our time here.
The food was average but not great. The service was very good but the pool noise is a bit distracting.
Best meal we had in maui
Wonderful location for a restaurant. The service was great and the food was excellent! Great for breakfast on the beach!
Great experience and Wonderful service
Waited 33 minutes to be seated after making a reservation. It took another 18 minutes to be served water and bread. My husband’s dinner was mild in taste and they brought out someone else’s meal to me initially. They offered to buy us dessert as a way of apologizing for their mistakes. We agreed, but we asked for the dessert to not contain nuts since my husband is allergic, and guess what we got... dessert with nuts. The manager and waitress were friendly and tried to rectify their mistakes by taking care of our drinks and dessert, as well as taking off a portion of both of our meals, which we appreciated. The view of the sea was spectacular and the drinks were tasty. Great potential- unfortunate night.
Local residents recommended this restaurant to us so we figured it had to be good. Unfortunately it wasn’t. Out of our party of five, two ordered surf and turf (6 oz steak and lobster) and two ordered 8oz steaks. When the meals arrived, all four steaks were over cooked. What was supposed to be medium-rare turned out to be much more cooked. Two of them were even well-done. The two supposed 8oz steaks came out as 6 oz. Three of the steaks were returned. When the new steaks arrived, they were cooked as ordered and the two that were supposed to be 8 oz were actually 8 oz. The service was also not very good. We had two servers. One being trained by the other but we couldn’t really tell which was was the established server. They did give everyone free dessert but it didn’t make up for the food and service. We had many great meals in Maui. Unfortunately 5 Palms was not in that category.
Bartenders were awesome. The regulars who eat there are awesome too! Ask for the Dave special
The food was solid and our sever was pleasant but completely absent. We waited for orders, our water glass were all empty. When we were obviously done for some time, she came and cleared half of our plates and did not return for a full 15 minutes. We were done close to 1/2 hour before we could finally get our server’s attention to get the bill.
We’ve been to five palms several times over the years. This will be our last visit. Food was good, View was amazing, but for $350 for dinner for 2 adults and 4 teens with no alcohol - the service better be best in class.
Always good food here. Our server Davita is awesome!
Waitress was great!!! Great place to view the sunset!!
Family of seven vacation dinner. Best food yet.
We were celebrating our 40th Wedding Anniversary and came back to our favorite restaurant for the Sunset Special. Our last visit had been in 2011. The Sunset Special was remarkable!! The Salad was tasty, the Ono was great with the purple potatoes and the dessert was a real surprise when the coconut ice cream arrived in a chocolate cup with strawberries. We had the best table in the place with beautiful breezes and views. We will always come back when we are on Maui.
The ambiance was outstanding. It's located close to the beach and is open-air. But the food just OK (and very pricey). Expect to pay at least $300 for a table of four with a drink or two. The restaurant was packed, so it could have just been an off night for us.
Liked having sushi options while not at a sushi restaurant as not everyoone in our party enjoys sushi or japanese fare. And the sushi was good.
never disappointed - will return again
Went there with family for a birthday dinner. Everyone had a wonderful time. Great food, great service, unbelievably beautiful views.
Loved everything about our experience!!! Beautiful view, awesome service and most importantly the food was AMAZING!!! Our server Conan was so polite and attentive. Definitely recommend and we will be back!!!
Excellent food selection and great service was our experience at 5 Palms. Next time we are back on Maui we will be sure to visit this restaurant.
Very nice restaurant right on the beach. We were promptly greeted, seated and approached by our server Frank who was very nice and attentive throughout our breakfast. Good menu choices and you have to try the baked pancake, it is to die for!
When in Maui, have a meal there!
An exceptional dining experience with an amazing view, wonderful way to spend an evening. Even the geckos were charming. <3
