2 South Food and Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
First rate food and service. I hold very high expectations for a restaurant experience. 2 South excels in every way. Located in a Victorian house with a focused menu (we had the beet salad, cheese and meat board, Swiss onion soup, pizza and ahi) 2 South is a delightful way to spend an evening. Service is at a European pace so you are well taken care of but not rushed. One of my favorites worldwide.
A group of us were visiting Colorado Springs & I chose this restaurant for a girls night out based on the positive Open Table reviews. It definitely was a nice venue for a GNO, as the Victorian Home was quaint & unique. Our waitress (Becky) was fabulous & took a lot of time assisting us with the menu and wine choices (which were extensive given the small restaurant). The food was "oaky" but nothing fabulous. We started off with a cheese board which was a fun appetizer for the three of us. Two of us had flatbread pizzas for dinner and another had the caesar salad topped with tuna. It was a fun evening but based on the fabulous reviews, I was hoping for something a bit more special.
This is a wonderful restaurant and wine bar. We all enjoyed our wines by the glass but we were really impressed by the food. The salads are deliciously simple. The Swiss Onion soup is not to be missed. Our main courses were all amazing and looked picture perfect. We will be back again and again!
Check out my review on Yelp. The server ruined our experience. She was loud and obnoxious. The meat and cheese board was fair at best, and our wine was old. We witnessed them using the same bottle we were drinking from during a wine tasting "flight night" after the server asked the bartender for a bottle of wine that had gone bad for the cook to use for cooking.
Been here many times. Food was impeccable, as always. However, this time, they sat us right by the entrance door in the bar area, despite having had reservations, so in addition to being cold, it was too noisy for a romantic date. Seems like the entire staff was overwhelmed this time, too, and service at every stage seemed slow.
We really enjoyed our birthday dinner celebration at 2 South. It was everything that previous reviews said it would be. Food was awesome, first class service, and a charmed relaxing atmosphere.
Highlights included a super warm welcome, fun service, really great dinner (I had the braised ribs - super yummy), and the restaurant was an impressive and welcome surprise to our friends that had not yet heard about 2 South.
Our meal wasn't inexpensive, but it was right on point for $$.
Challenges included it was a bit snug for our party of 9 (to be expected though, it's a beautifully transformed Victorian), we weren't impressed with the recommended drink list (the Campari and the tequila recommendations we ordered were a bit disappointing), and we had two items (peppers and one bar drink) that were slow to arrive.
Overall, we loved the charming ambiance and the meal, and will eagerly recommend 2 South again and again. It was awesome!
We are never disappointed when we dine here. It is perfect for a romantic evening or to hang out with friends. The menu always has a new surprise and they keep the favorites we've come to love. We keep telling everyone to come check it out. Worth the time and money.
We read the reviews of 2 South and decided to give it a try and we were pleasantly surprised.
They specialize in small plates and a selective menu of "big plates." We liked that the menu changes frequently and they offer some innovative dishes. We ordered the Cheese arancini which were to die for and the warm olive small plates...very tasty. We then had a superb veal ragout and a Marguerita flatbread, which had fresh tomatoes and spinach on it. If you prefer interesting, well-prepared food instead of your ordinary "chain restaurant" menu, you'll love this place. My only advice is to ask to be seated in a room other than the back room. We were seated in the back room and we could hear the annoying noise of a refrigerator or freezer in the adjacent store room that was either very old or in need of repair.
My wife and I went here on a Friday night for our anniversary. It was hopping at 6:30, so glad we'd made a reservation via OpenTable!
The food was delicious - we opted for multiple "small plates" instead of entrees, and were not disappointed. We look forward to dining outside in the Summer when there's not 6 inches of snow on the ground and tables!
We absolutely loved our dinner here on Christmas Eve. The menu was prix fixe and a terrific value. We all loved the puff pastry, the salad, the soup, the entrees we chose and the dessert. There had been a disaster with the chocolate selection and the chef made me a new one at my request though it had been replaced with a bourbon pecan pie on the menu. The staff are so entertaining and well trained. The owner is a truly great guy and the chef is a very talented award winning pro. We will go back many times!
We enjoyed the Aricini rice balls, swiss onion soup, and the short ribs. The hambuger was not the best. Not big or juicy enough. You can add a second patty in the order. Probably should have done so. The wait staff was personable and liked the old home room feel.
This is a WINE BAR. After being seated I asked a question about a wine and waitress said it was her first day and she knew nothing about the wine! Nor did she get anyone that did. She also did not know anything about the menu, misrepresented the desserts and had bad breath. Overall not pleasant.
They did not have our reservation when we arrived. We waited in the bar for a few minutes and they were able to accommodate us on the patio. They seemed to be short staffed on servers so we waited quite some time to get drinks and then to get our food. Besides the slow service everything else was great.
Good food, great outdoor space with live music, good wine list.
Only down side- service rather disorganized and slow. When we arrived with an Open Table reservation made 6-7 hours earlier, they didn't have us 'in the book', and left me standing at the door for several minutes. I 'self-helped' by being very visible, and got a nice table by the band. Later, they 'found' me in the book.
Service was very personable but not diligent; had to ask repeatedly for water etc. Very busy time (sat night), so this explains some of this.
Overall, we'll be back, especially for the great live music in a tree covered patio!
I had a great evening. Everyone was friendly and inviting. The food was delicious and options were interesting. My server was nice and personable, slow and unattaintive but it was a Saturday night. My only complaint was when we asked for recommendations there was a similar theme only high ticket items from drinks to food. Yes high ticket items may be delicious but not the only thing on the menu and I appreciate what people really think just be genuine I served for many years we all get it.
We found this gem on OpenTable when traveling to Colorado Springs. It's located in an old house in an established neighborhood. The front yard as been converted into a fabulous patio with views of the sun setting behind the Rockies. The wine list is expansive and reasonable, the menu from salads to fire oven pizza to entrees to dessert was simply perfect. The Saturday night we dined there was a jazz duo playing on the front porch! To top it off the owners (mom, dad, daughter) were ever so present to ensure everyone's evening was perfect to include our little French bulldog who was a welcome patio guest!
If you are traveling to/thru CS, venture off I-25 and enjoy a true dining experience just a short drive away from the chains you can find in any town.
We enjoyed live music, a pizza and a bottle of wine on the patio.
The pizza was quite good. Wine was way over priced.
$85 for a pizza to share (about 12") and a bottle of wine and 2 desserts? And that was one of their lower priced bottles.
So be aware - nice place to relax and enjoy music - just pricey.
