Diner Reviews
  • "It was both my date and I first time to Yellow Door. We thought it was great, the food, our Server, the drinks list, the ambience. Her steak was cooked to perfection (as she likes it) and I had the almond chicken on couscous. We also had the Scallops appy that were pretty tasty. I think all in for a full course dinner for two with some opening cocktails, I paid just over $150. And thanks Yellow Door for putting a candle on her Dessert (it was her birthday) that made the night a little extra special. Will be back for sure!"

  • "Food was bland, and not prepared properly at times- rabbit and foie was not tempered. Had better meal at chain restaurants if lesser cost."

  • "We had excellent service, great for a business lunch, with a lunch crowd. The restaurant got packed from 12-1, kind of fun, busy but excellent. The food was really good and our server was great. I have tried a few dishes and they have all been great."

  • "Looking for a great place for lunch with lots of options? This is the place! They have a great a la carte menu as well as hot buffet breakfast with eggs to order; simply fantastic."

  • "This was my first time at Yellow Door and the tone was set at the door. I had a 8pm reservation on a Saturday night and there was no host or hostess. The person who greeted us shortly, came across as being bothered to have to deal with us and did not make us feel welcome. Our server was very good, made good wine suggestions, was always near when we needed something but that initial feeling of not being welcome haunted the entire night."

  • "I can't tell you how much I enjoy eating at Yellow Door Bistro! The restaurant is so unique and beautiful to start but then the service and the food all blow you away. On this occasion my friend and I were off to see a show at Jack Singer and this restaurant is perfectly located for "dinner and a show!" If you are going any time soon, you MUST try the Braised Alberta Beef Short Rib! It is is to die for! Check this place out, I'm confident you'll be back a few times!"

  • "It was our first time at your establishment, based on the recommendation of a friend. The Yellow Door did not disappoint! The food was beautifully presented, and delicious. Our friend was celebrating her birthday and her experience was memorable for all the right reasons. The decor was very tastefully cosmopolitan and service was impeccable! Thanks for a wonderful dining experience!"

  • "Got to the restaurant around 1pm (Saturday). Got the buffet brunch... Was somewhat disappointed as you could tell most of the food had been sitting awhile. Overall the food was not bad, but for the price point I expected a little more. The server was delightful. Great modern decor."

  • "We had a great time at the Yellow Door. The decor is excellent and the service outstanding. Presentation of the food was excellent, but the price match versus the portions was not in line. The Hockey special was excellent but their regular steak menu left a lot to be desired and was too pricy for the skimpy dish. A two inch square of potato, and a 1 inch by 6 inch square of meat is hardly worth $39.00. Due to the exceptional service we had a great night and I would certainly recommend it, but if you want steak, go somewhere else."

  • "went there for Big Taste. The food was good but the portion for some seemed small. Overall I would recommend."

  • "We had a nice meal at Yellow Door. The service was great and the food very tasty. Atmosphere was vibrant, clean and comfortable. Our only complaint was some of the food from the buffet wasn't quite hot enough. The selection though was awesome and quality high and I would return for sure."

  • "This place has the most delicious brunch. The buffet is outstanding and considering the quality and variety of selections on offer, it's an incredible value. The eggs benedict were my favourite. I feel that poached eggs often lose something while sitting in a chafing dish, but these held their shape and the yolks were perfectly runny and smooth. The friendly staff chatted enthusiastically to us about the dishes available that morning and offered excellent service, from coat check to splitting the bill. They also validate passes for the hotel parkade!"

  • "There were some excellent dishes, then some good dishes. I would liked a more consistent meal. It also seemed like our server was a little uncertain, although the rest of the staff was great. I especially enjoyed my risotto starter and my chocolate parfait dessert."

  • "The food was good and the interior design is fun, but it's not so different that it sticks out from other places. The chairs look good, but they are horribly uncomfortable. This was my second time there and I won't be in a rush to head back."

  • "The lunch I had at Yellow Door was absolutely amazing. The cob salad was very artsy and very tasty. The chicken I had so was tender and moist. I can't wait to go back to try more items on their menu. I love the variety of decor they have around the restaurant."

  • "First time to Yellow Door Bistro, and I tried the Big Taste Menu for Lunch and the food was amazing. Delicious and flavourful. The restaruant had very interesting and modern decor. It was a nice place to eat and catch up with friends."

  • "I went to the Big taste event here and I did get order the BT menu, it was really amazing. Presentation was great and everything looks as good as it taste. While I was there I also notice that they have buffet brunch which looked amazing. Will definitely try that too."

  • "We went to Yellow Door on a Saturday evening as part of the Big Taste event and had one of the best dining experiences of our lives. The food was outstanding as well as the service. Simply wonderful. We will be back again."

  • "Absolutely love the decor, the different size shutters covering the walls is, in my mind, brilliant!! We started with an appetizer of beef tartare which was delicious. I had the beef tenderloin which was very tasty and I enjoyed very much. My husband had a chorizo crusted cod which he liked but not as much as my tenderloin! Dessert was delicious too!!! I will definitely be back!"

  • "Big Taste menu and everything was outstanding except for the uncomfortable wooden chairs at the side tables. Food was beautifully panted and the taste matched. Service was pleasant and efficient. We will return."

  • "Definitely on the best side of "bistro" concept! Fun and bright for lunch, very busy, glad we made a reservation. The food was awesome! I will be very comfortable bringing anyone to yellow door!"

  • "First time coming here, I thought it would a good experience since this restaurant was named one of the top restaurants in Calgary. When I arrived, I was seated almost immediately, when we sat down it took almost 20 min for someone to come and ask us what we wanted to drink. It took another 20 min or so for the water to be given to us. It seemed like this restaurant catered to bigger groups (4 and up) then to smaller groups. Food was mediocre (ordered off the big taste menu). Would probably come back only to order the dessert."

  • "I was very excited about going here during the Big Taste. But from the beginning it was disappointing. Service was disorganized, we had a waiter hand us the ipad for wine, and then the manager/maitre d' came and took our orders and had to come back on 2 different occasions because he forgot what we ordered (only 4 diners!). Service was slow, for our 3 course prix fixe menu, total time was 2 1/5 hours. The good - bread and cobb salad. The bad - We all ordered the arctic char, it was bland and unseasoned, the sauce below decent but nothing special, and the vegetables looked like they had just come out of the bag. Dessert tasted fine, but was boring, a pound cake with cream and berries. I would not recommend this restaurant!"

  • "Nice change from the local cuisine. Portions were perfect! AND you must try dessert! Food was delicious! Never had anything i didn't like! Staff is great!"

  • "As part of the annual Big Taste we explored the Yellow Door Bistro. The service was super and the stylish interiors add to a special occasion feel. The food was outstanding. We had a lactose intolerant guest with us and the kitchen was immediately able to accommodate in a courteous manner. We enjoyed the whole experience and the lamb sous vide was so delicious, we spooned out the sauce to the last drop. The suggested wine for the menu was a good fit and also didn't break the bank. We can recommend this restaurant and will be back."

  • "Tried the Big Taste menu on the weekend and enjoyed the cobb salad very much. The main courses were very small with uninspired side veggies. The dessert was fantastic as well as the service but the main courses left us feeling un-satisfied."

  • "We had a wonderful meal, and the service was some of the best I've ever had in Calgary...and we eat out a lot. Great food, too. Most of us ordered the hot buffet, which was excellent; one person ordered from the menu, and hers was also very good. Also very accommodating for one person's peanut allergy."

  • "Its been a few weeks since the boyfriend and I had a date night out and I thought the Big Taste gave me the opportunity to check out Yellow Door Bistro. The menu looked delicious online, but fell flat in person. We had ordered the big taste menu, the scallops and short ribs, and shared everything. We found the flavours mediocre and the short rib actually a little over cooked. The best part of the entire meal was the almond dessert from the big taste menu. The service was a little bit awkward, but we didn't really have any real complaints. Decor was lovely and we were given a great table with lots of privacy and a street view."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our evening out. The staff were very professional and efficient. It was a busy night, but we were catered to and felt very looked after. The food was delicious and we've been telling everyone about our great evening."

  • "This is a quirky restaurant with great food. We were there for the Big Taste Calgary and thought the menu was very creative and delicious. Our server was great, very funny, but it did take a while to be seated then have our order taken. Overall it was a very fun night out."

  • "We had a nice dinner at Yellow Door Bistro, although the black chairs were very uncomfortable. They were happy to adjust the dish I ordered to respond to my dairy allergy. But the best thing is that I was able to enjoy a decadent dessert! Usually, I'm limited to ordering fruit or sorbetto, but they easily adapted their macaroon offering to be dairy-free! This topped off a wonderful evening."

  • "This is my second time to the Yellow Door Bistro and I'd recommend it again in a heartbeat. The appy's were great for sharing and the main courses were enough that we even had some to take home as well. I recommended this choice primarily for the food and was not disappointed - everyone at the table agreed as well. The energy level was up there and at times made conversation around our table a little difficult but a great restaurant attracts a crowd so it's not a bad thing."

  • "Food was exceptional. Shared the pastrami plate-excellent. Main courses were well presented with superb flavours. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Desserts were also outstanding. Complimentary sparkling water was a nice touch. Only issue was the wine delivered to the table was of a different vintage than stated in the menu. When we pointed it out, steward arrived acknowledging error. We accepted the more recent vintage, which peculiarly was at exactly the same price point."

  • "The décor is very unique, and visually interesting. The service was great! As someone on a gluten free diet, I was pleasantly surprised by the complimentary gluten free bread and charge free substitutions. Gluten free or friendly didn't mean less food, or additional charges, or sometimes, both, like other places I've been to. I ordered the Manhattan Clam Chowder and Wild Mushroom Flatbread. The chowder was pretty tasty, but, it didn't stay warm for very long, and it was 1 clam. The flatbread was so good! Especially for GF, the crust was actually crunchy and moist, not bland and crumbly as some can be. The mushrooms were fresh tasting and plump. I would order again. I had no more room for dessert, but definitely want to try for next time."

  • "Cool and yet different decor. Charming service. A very nice selection of choices at the breakfast/brunch buffet. A quiet ambience so we could have a conversation without having to shout or strain to hear, so common in many Calgary restaurants. Good value."
