Diner Reviews
  • "It is expensive to eat at Webster House. A lot is expected. We were greatly dismayed with our recent dinner service. The restaurant was full between 6:30 - 7:30 pm. The elapse time from our salad to our entree was 35 minutes. At 25 minutes we inquired about the delay. Our waitress's response was that everyone was having to wait that amount of time but she would check on our order. (She never updated us once during the lengthy wait.) She returned to say we were "next up". Ten minutes later our meal was served. Spacing the courses is important in fine dining. It really detracted from our evening which as predicted was expensive. We may think twice about repeating this dining experience before attending our next concert."

  • "We went there before we went to concert. Great dinner and you can park there too."

  • "We were not impressed with the experience. The time for service was excessive. Arrived at 6 and were not served dinner until 7, over 45 minutes from when we were ready to order and 30 minutes from the time we ordered. This is apparently normal as when we told the woman we were going to the theater, she anticipated we could not browse the shop and still have dinner in 2 hours. The server was knowledgeable, but bordering on rude. While waiting we told him we had theater reservations for 8, and his response was everyone there was going to the same theater. The food was good but not exceptional. While the location is great, we were disappointed that the experience was not better since one needs a reservation weeks in advance."

  • "A must on a performance night in downtown KC. The antiques and shopping and dining in this very cool old school house along with great food make for a memorable experience every time."

  • "Food quality was excellent. Our only concern was with the wine list - quality & selection of wines was poor. We recommend that the restaurant engage a knowledgeable person to perform a major re-working of the list."

  • "Our second stop during birthday week was at Webster House. It took a little time before we were seated, but they were very accommodating to move us into the library when we saw a gaggle of teenage girls in the main dining room & didn't want them to distract from our quiet, relaxing dining experience. Overall, this was such a better experience than dinner 1 at Michael Smith. We had the trio of spreads (always), split the Caesar salad, I had the steak, & my husband had the chicken. Flavors were spot on and gave us that "special" feeling we lacked at dinner 1. Our server was one of the best we've had - she knew when to stop by and when to let us enjoy our meal. Dessert was better than last night's and on the house, all the better! Love it! "

  • "Had never been to the Webster House before.............we thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely return. I would have preferred a table a tad further away from folks (we were in the library), but it worked out ok as some people eventually left."

  • "Wonderful setting in the middle of downtown Kansas City, above a boutique gift shop and in an historic school from the mid 1800's. Food was superb and setting was very elegant. Next door to the Performing Arts Center, perfect for before and after events, or like our perfect for a special destination dinner date."

  • "The filet is always a hit, we enjoyed that with the pork chop and pretzel rolls. Had the fried oysters, but didn't really like them. Creme Brulee was excellent."

  • "We went to Webster House before a concert next door at the Performing Arts Center. Webster House was a great choice: wonderful parking, exceptional food and service, fair prices. Definitely a place we'll go again."

  • "Very poor service. Took 20 mins after seated to take drink orders. The Fried green Tomatoes (one of the reasons I went back there) have changed and instead are now dry with a cream cheese on them! Yuck. Limited menu. Our friends don't eat seafood which made up 75% of the menu choices. We didn't order wine, yet they left the huge wine glasses on the table the whole meal. So between water glasses, tea, and wine glasses, we had 12 glasses on our table for 4 with barely any room for our plates. This is NOT the restaurant we used to love. And service was so slow that we were late for our Symphony concert (even though we gave 2 hours to eat and were on time for our reservation). Also very loud and not a good place for conversation with friends."

  • "My boyfriend and I are both "foodies" and so we asked to sit at the chef's table to take in the show of the dinner service. The executive chef as well as the sous chef came to chat with us and answer questions. The wait staff, and cooks were all very friendly--we were even given a free appetizer on the house. Wonderful food--every course mouth-watering!"

  • "My daughter and I often meet for lunch on Sundays. To me this is the most enjoyable restaurant we have visited because of so many reasons. We both loved the food. I got the waffle - literally the. best I ever had. My daughter had the fried chicken - she loved it. I loved the setting, waitress kept checking to make sure we were doing OK, wished I could have tried a little of everything on the menu, and we enjoyed our time there very much. We well definitely will be coming back. Thanks to the chef for a delicious meal and the staff for a great experience."

  • "I used the Webster House as the location to celebrate God's gift of celibacy in my life. I invited friends and family who have prayed for me and walked with me on this God sent journey. I have never celebrated celibacy so I didn't know what to expect. Celibacy is a gift from God and the Webster House offered the ambience fit for Royalty. We were in awe of the friendliness of the staff, hosts, and waiters. The place was beautiful and like celibacy so rewarding! We enjoyed our time immensely and now we know where to celebrate the remarkable works God has endowed! Thank you so much to the Webster House staff for making the celebration memorable. Most important ~ Thank you God for giving us a reason to Celebrate at the Webster House!!"

  • "The food is always well prepared. The service is always spot-on. Depending on the event(s) which might be going on it can get a bit noisy, but it never been an issue to interfere with dining and conversation. While the main menu only changes occasionally, the specials are worthy of note."

  • "Visiting from out of town, we were invited to a show. For dinner it was only natural to eat at the Webster House right next door. We had early reservations so we went to the bar for a cocktail. Great drink and friendly bar staff! Our table was ready right at the reservation time. As this is an old school, the dinning rooms are nice and cozy, the several eating areas don't feel like you are in a giant place. Our server was fabulous! She was attentive and funny. Took care of all our needs without us even asking! Now the best part! The food was just more than we could ask for. The fillet was truly to die for! Couldn't have been more perfect anyplace else in the world. Appetizer and desert, all 3, were amazing. Great experience. Thanks!"

  • "Recently enjoyed lunch, a great salmon salad, and most recently a light supper before a concert at the Kauffman Center. The lunch was outstanding and the Ciopinno for supper was quite good. Hadn't been in a while and had forgotten how enjoyable it is, both to browse the shops and to enjoy some fine dining."

  • "We had a great dinner.. the food was wonderful. i did have a problem with the hostess. She was alittle haughty and acted as if she was put out by having to help us. The server seemed anxious to get us out of the restuarant. we were there to enjoy a nice relaxing dinner after attending the theater, not to slam down food before going to the theater."

  • "We dined at the chef's table on a Saturday evening. Our server, the chef, and all accompanying staff could not have been more thoughtful or accommodating. The food was fantastic. We especially enjoyed the filet. It was among the best I've ever had."

  • "The best place to go before a performance at the nearby Kauffman Center. You can always rely on good food and getting out on time."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "We had made a reservation for 6:30, as we were attending an event at the Kauffman Center at 8 pm. We arrived at the restaurant a bit early, about 6:20. The only table that was available was the chef's table, so we took it. It was fine and interesting, although the sun was coming in through a high window and shining in my eyes for the first 30 minutes which was a bit annoying. The food and service were all excellent. Overall, a great evening, though I'd like to go back sometime and sit in another part of the restaurant."

  • "The pork chop was so delectable. Would def do it again!"

  • "We went early in order to shop a little before dinner. The fresh vegetables were perfectly prepared. My dining companions thoroughly enjoyed their chicken and their steak!"
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "Everything is great. Noise level depends on whether or not the pre-Kauffman event crowd is in. We went after a show had started and place was pretty quiet."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "Next to the Kauffman Center, Webster House is always crowded before performances, so we reserved very early. The food is very good and we had a delightful, pleasant server. We only had starters, a lovely soup, excellent carpaccio with a quail egg on top, crab cakes, and very, very good creme brulee with pecans. The house is lovely, with a variety of rooms, and when there aren't many people, it is a very romantic spot. But when it's full, it's noisier and more energetic. Not a bargain, but worth it."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "Waitress changed our wine order without asking us to choose after finding you were out of our first choice. It did turn out to be good."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "For events at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts convenience doesn't get much better than Webster House. They do change the menu from time to time so repeat visits are warranted. The specials also are changed very frequently. Service is always top-notch. Some of the descriptions belie what you are going to experience. The double pork chop is massive... the beet salad is diminutive."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "The Campanelle Short Rib Pasta I ordered was too salty. Other than that, everything else is great."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "It was for a birthday with my partner, it was a nice environment, and very romantic. The service was professional and the food was great!"
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "Everything points to a wonderful experience at the Webster House. The old building carefully restored, the menu, the location close to the Kauffman Center in downtown Kansas City, this all leads one to want to partake in the experience. The problem: the service was far too slow. It was one hour from the reservation time to the time the entree was on the table--no explanation, no apology. Sorry, but for the Webster House to be a truly first class restaurant this alone disqualifies it."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "We've been going to the Webster House for some time and always dine there before going to a function next door at the Kauffman Center. By today's standards, the menu is relatively brief but the food is always excellent. I suggest avoiding the room with the bar as it can be noisy, but there are several other choices. Definitely one of KC's better secrets."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "I've always had a great experience here but the service I received during my last visit was less than desirable. The food was good but it took an extrememly long time to be delivered, and was for every course and then the same for the check. We found ourselves just sitting and waiting several times because of the unusual long wait time. I am not letting this one experience deter me from visiting here again as I hope this is just an isolated event. Always been very satisfied with service and quality."
