Diner Reviews
  • "We had never been to the Webster House but, upon a colleague's recommendation, we took a couple who is just moving (from another country) to the Kansas City area. The meal, service, and ambience were excellent."

  • "I usually only come here once or twice a year, as it is a "special occasion" sort of place. It's pricey, but the food is always tasty and tastefully presented and the wait staff is attentive. And you can't beat the uniqueness of the locale, which is a big part of the experience. Leave time to wander around downstairs before or after your meal — it adds to the experience."

  • "This has become our annual birthday celebration lunch spot. We plan to continue the tradition. It's such an enjoyable experience. Everything is wonderful."

  • "The Webster house is one of those places you leave and tell all your friends about. They take Classic American dishes and make them their own. I would recommend this place to anyone. From traditionalists to modern foodies, The Webster House has something for everyone. A place that is sure to impress."

  • "I treated my good friend for her birthday last Saturday evening at the Webster House. This was my first dining experience and I intend to return many times. The atmosphere was cozy, quiet, and comfortable. The servers were wonderful and helpful with suggestions. And! the dinner and desserts were delicious. I was so happy to have enough for a take home box! I especially enjoyed browsing the shops."

  • "This is truly our favorite KC fine dining restaurant for many reasons and occasions. We love the trio of spreads, the filet, and my husband tried the pasta special - all was delicious and so wonderfully flavored. We will certainly return (many) more times!"

  • "I think that the Webster House makes the baddest Bloody Mary in town!!! I had the fish taco lunch item and it was very good. And so were the dinner rolls (pretzel rolls?)"
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "this is a difficult restaurant to get into when the performing arts scene at the Kauffman Center is busy. In the summer, it's easier to reserve a table and it's worth it. The atmosphere and food is always pleasing, if a little expensive."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "This is a very nice place to lunch with a friend. Great food, nice dining areas. The noise level makes it difficult to have conversation."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "Beautiful venue in an old school house now converted into an antique store and restaurant. I have eaten there multiple times and the food has never been anything less than spectacular. What is offered on the menu will change depending on the season and what is available locally. The service is consistently good. Decent wine selection and our servers are always able to assist us in choosing a good bottle or glass. It is close to the theaters if one is attending a performance. One of KC areas best places to eat (and an independent restaurant to top it off!)."

  • "Lunch on July 14th = Outstanding food, service and quiet for visiting. We stayed past closing time and were welcome to stay as long as we liked. Our server, Lauren, was very good and the lunch serving were delicious. One of our favorite places to have lunch."

  • "Dinner before a show at the Kauffman Center. Third time. Very good service in the past. After appetizers this time, though, our bored-looking waitress did not return to the table for 20-25 minutes. Complained to a manager-type person. He said this was due to the new menu and offered us gratis glasses of wine. Nice touch, but lame excuse. The waitress should have returned to apologize for the delay and to see if we wanted more water or wine. Disappointing. Could be a training issue, The new garage is expensive and we were not asked if we wanted out parking ticket validated. Dinner? Boring shrimp cakes, but very, very good salmon and scallops. Will return. Interesting building with many shops. Right next to the Kauffman Center."

  • "We arrived at 6:00 for dinner before a 7:30 show at the Kaufman. Our drinks and salad arrived promptly. However, it took a painfully long time for the entre to arrive. We were assured by our waiter several times but the dinner didn't arrive. Finally, it arrived. We had no time to consider dessert and had to rush to the Kaufman. We've had good dining experiences here before. This was a huge disappointment."

  • "On our first trip to the Webster House we were very impressed. It is a unique and refreshing venue for dinner. Where so many restaurants are edgy in their decor the Webster House offers a beautiful traditional dining experience with just enough creativity to make it interesting for those who want to be dazzled. We had the filet and the pork shank and found both to be excellent. We will return."

  • "The shop was a lot larger than expected which is not a bad thing. Food was great and not terribly expensive given the ambiance. Great menu and variety. I have recommended the venue to everyone"

  • "We took our mother to Webster House for her birthday luncheon. Mom, my sister, niece, and friend went on a Saturday for lunch. The ambiance is wonderful. The meals were all well presented, service was very attentive without being intrusive. The variety of menu selections was wonderful and the preparation was spot on. I love taking friends and family to Webster House! I would highly recommend Webster House."

  • "From the time you enter the front door to the end of the meal, one can see the pride each staff member takes in Webster House. Although there were a few men present, the main lunch crowd on the day I dined there were ladies. It's fairly easily accessible and on a Saturday parking was easy to find and provided us with a very nice place to meet up with old friends, enjoy a nice meal and be able to hear one another as we spoke."

  • "We were at the Chef's table. Fantastic food! Watching the line work was like watching performance art. Luckily as the evening slowed we were able to talk to the line cooks as well as the Chef. All were very personable and answered any questions we had. This is an experience I highly recommend. The food and presentation were perfect and very tasty. You cannot go wrong here."

  • "The only downside was table location. We could not see outside since our table was against a wall, not alongside a window looking upon the beautiful city from the 2-3 floor."

  • "I cannot believe in the time I've lived in Kansas City that this is the first time I've been to Webster House. It is absolutely beautiful in there! And the food was very good. The menu has many delicate and intricate dishes, as well as something for just about everybody. I highly recommend coming here for brunch."

  • "This was a nice escape from the typical johnson County restaurant. The shopping on the first floor was a treat for the ladies in our group. Menu choice was excellent as was the service. This would be a great place for dinner before an event at the Kauffman."

  • "My husband had not been to Webster House so I made reservations. The location and the restored school building make the drive and parking challenge worthwhile. [On Sunday parking was NO problem.] The first floor rooms display a variety of unusual, moderately priced items as well as antiques. We were 15 minutes early but were seated as the dining rooms were not busy. Enjoyed the quieter dining experience. Service was pleasant, attentive but not pushy. Even though the menu was impressive and reasonably priced, our selections were just so-so. That was our only disappointment."
