Diner Reviews
  • "Great food, the service by Jen was outstanding. A great place for a celebration!"

  • "Always interesting with each palte to taste all the different flavors or each. Didn't seem as hectic this time and that was nice."

  • "My fiance and I were looking for a new restaurant in the Old Market and bought a Groupon for V. Mertz. This restaurant transformed me to a french wine cellar right off the bat. Our server, David, was knowledgeable and friendly. He offered wonderful suggestions and informed us that the menu changes often to reflect seasonal foods. Matthew the manager stopped over several times to see how our experience was and helped us with future reservations. Finally when you go you must end your meal with their candy bar crunch chocolate masterpiece (and a Hennessy). We will be back!"

  • "Eclectic, experimental menu, featuring the best of the seasonal and regional produce, an emphasis on texture, taste and balance."

  • "Great food, great service, great ambiance. The staff took great pains to explain various things and they made recommendations when we asked them to do so. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "There were 3 in our party and we had a variety of food, all very good. Started off with specialty cocktails. One wasn't to our liking so they replaced it with a different drink. One of our party had the price fix menu with wine pairing. The appetizers, duck, wagyu beef and supporting cast of food along with the desert made an enjoyable meal for everyone. The roasted ceasar salad was a different approach. Our waitress was exceptional in her service."

  • "Very unusual menu items but the food was delicious."

  • "The ambience at V.Mertz was quiet yet you felt as though you could talk at a normal volume without being shushed. The food was delicious and hot and the temperatures were spot on. The server was very knowledgeable about the wine list all parts of the dishes we ordered. We were seated next to the hallway outside of the restaurant and I feared there would be quite a bit of foot trafficking noise but you could barely hear the passersby. It was a great meal and a great night out, I can't wait to go back."

  • "V. Mertz is our favorite place for special occasion dinning. Amazing food with beautiful presentation! Top notch service and an out of this world wine list!"

  • "V.Mertz is a great place to go. The passageway is a beautiful area of the Old Market and you could walk right by not knowing it is there. The wait staff was very attentive, the drinks were phenomenal and the food was even better. The menu changes frequently so it's hard to make a food recommendation, but you can't go wrong with anything."

  • "Four of us enjoyed the 8 course tasting menu at V.Mertz. Chef Seymour's imagination and talent were reflected in each course. It was an adventure that I am looking forward to repeating."

  • "I'm a fit of a foodie, but this place isn't worth it. Our waiter was excellent and notified us that they changed their menu format a while ago. If you want a traditional salad/soup, entree and dessert then you might struggle with only having a few options. They had 1 soup, 2 salads and 5 entree choices. Otherwise you were expected to order small plates. Don't get me wrong, the food was delicious, but our bill for 4 was close to $300 and we were still hungry afterwards even though we ordered a bottle of wine, salads, entrees and split 2 desserts between the 4 of us. It was underwhelming, but at least we had a groupon!"

  • "Really great food with excellent wine pairings by wait staff. Knowledgable waitress both as to food and wine. Cozy tables for intimate conversation. I love this place. We'll be back."

  • "Interesting menu. Food was very good overall; duck was a little raw. Peppercorn steak brandy sauce was delicious. Service good. Look for periodic groupons."

  • "Good food, great dessert. Waiter was a little slow getting to us but you were very busy. After we ordered though he was very attentive. He also was quite knowledgeable about the menu."

  • "V.Mertz is always wonderful. I attend when I come from out of town (Pittsburgh), and I always look forward to it. I take very important clients there, because I know that we will never have a problem with food, service, or anything else! It will always be perfect. David is always our server, and he is top of the line."

  • "The food was delicious- my favorite was the Peppercorn Steak and the homemade chocolate bar for dessert. The waitress was very knowledgeable, stating all the ingredients and the method the food was prepared. I was impressed."

  • "Each time we dine here, the chef amazes us with flavor profiles that one would not expect. By far, our favorite restaurant in Omaha!"
    Dined on 8/2/2014
  • "Art on a plate and on your palate. Always creative and an experience all to itself. This time I notices that the portions are more than adequate. You won't leave anything on your plate because it's so good, but you won't leave hungry due to tiny 'gourmet' portion size either."

  • "The food is fabulous. Portions just right and presented well. A very good wine list with a broad selection of types and prices. The waiter was very helpful in making our selections. My only complaint is that it was a little warm even in shorts and a light shirt."

  • "I had the wagyu steak. I know what wagyu beef is. In my opinion, I got over seasoned sirloin. Touch sirloin at that. You don't need a knife to eat wagyu. In fact, many fine restaurants serve wagyu without a knife. I guarantee you, there would have been no way to eat this without a sharp steak knife. One guest had the signature steak on the menu. He absolutely loved the sauce served on the steak but said the steak was just a steak. One of my guests had the salmon and she went crazy over it. Why would the seafood be better than the beef at any restaurant in Omaha, Nebraska? Did that salmon come out of the Platte River? The charcuterie was very good and interesting. The sommelier was very knowledgeable. The coffee was excellent."

  • "Great service, fantastic food. V. Mertz remains our favorite date place!"

  • "We went to V. Mertz to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We like good food, good wine, good service, good ambiance. We got all four. We were delighted with our entire evening. We had a relaxing, delicious, well served meal. The place is quaint, seemimg as if we were outside, but actually in a lower level built to seem that way. We did not feel rushed during any course and found the staff to be courteous, knowledgeable, and humorous...all traits we enjoy when going out to dinner. We will remember our 10 anniversary at V. Mertz and make it a must to visit when we are in Omaha in the future."

  • "The Prix Fixe menu was a culinary dream. From the wine pairings to the service, the ambiance to the carefully designed textures and flavors of the dishes, the experience at V.Mertz was one I would recommend whole heartedly. We especially loved the Blackberry, Rhubarb, Port Dessert. It had the perfect combination of sweetness, tartness, crunch, and creamy smoothness. It has been the best dessert we have ever had there and probably anywhere."

  • "I went because I had a groupon and probably wouldn't have gone otherwise (before now) because it's out of my regular price range. But the food is fantastic, great selection of drinks, and awesome service. I'm definitely returning with or without a groupon. It was a great experience."

  • "V. Mertz is a very nice restaurant, located on the lower floor of the indoor mall. Each dish was even more delicious than the last! My friend ordered the bavette steak, and I the lamb chop, and neither one of us could get enough! The creamy polenta and barley risotto were unique but wonderful. Even the mustard served with the charcuterie plate was exquisite! The house-made candy bar was also divine, and impossible to pass up! We cannot wait to come back!"

  • "One of Omaha's premier dining establishments, V.Mertz is OUTSTANDING in every category."

  • "Finding this restaurant is challenging. There is not a notable sign. I did find it after leaving, on a railing at waist height. This place is in an enclosed "alley" with other shops and restaurants. Finally had to ask a server at another place. The atmosphere in the restaurant is quiet. The tables are quite small. I was alone, this was not a problem, however patrons next to me asked to be relocated to a 4 top for the 2 of them. Chairs are folding chairs with covers on them. I think this really misses the mark. The duck was the best I have ever had. The salad was perfectly balanced with fresh ingredients. The server was attentive, but not too much so. Prices were a little high, but food quality helped me feel better about that."

  • "This was my third time visiting vmertz. The first time was great. We had an awesome waiter and everything we ordered was fantastic. Second time they overcooked my husband's steak but my food was good. Great service again. The third time the service was slow but once we complained all the good came on time. The server forgot to out our order for appetizer in and we had to remind him. We both ordered the prefix menu and ordered the complete opposite so we could both try everything and the food was just okay nothing great. We probably will give it another chance. We like the atmosphere."

  • "I went to V. Mertz with my girlfriend over the July 4th weekend. We decided to try their cocktails instead of wine. I got their old fashioned which was one of the best drinks I've ever had. Our server even brought over their head bartender to describe the drinks in further detail and make suggestions. I got the duck and my girlfriend got the salmon. We loved our entrees and the experience overall. V. Mertz lived up to high expectations and if we're ever in Omaha again, we will be back."

  • "Ambience was perfect for a date night. Food presentation was excellent. Taste was very good. A little bit rich for me, and looking back I probably should have passed on a heavy appetizer and just ordered a simple salad before the main entree. But it was all very yummy and the waiter was fantastic. We will definitely return."

  • "This was our first visit to V Mertz and we couldn't have had a nicer time. Our waiter (Chris) was amazing - very personable and knowledgeable, answering all our questions. The atmosphere was great - quiet and classy. And the food was delicious. We tried two cheeses as an appetizer - the Gigi and Garland, which came with bread, blueberry sauce, mustard and a crunchy hazelnut crumble. We ordered the flank steak, the peppercorn steak and the salmon. I'd read in some review that the portions were on the small side, but I didn't think that was the case. We ordered the Candy bar, which was fun and really good...and the Blackberry, Rhubarb and Port, which was very different but delicious. I would definitely order it again."

  • "We have been to V Mertz a couple times now, and both visits were of great quality. The service, from the wait staff, the sommeliers and the chef was at the top from anywhere we have visited in Nebraska. The tasting menu is always dynamic with interested combinations and unexpected elements pair with great lesser known wines."

  • "V. Mertz gives Omaha a European feel inside the passageway of the Old Market. The service was a little slow, but the restaurant was busy, it was a Saturday night. The food presentation and taste was superb although the noise level in the restaurant was high. The Wagyu flank steak and the Peppercorn steak were well prepared and scrumptious. The service personnel were friendly and knowledgeable and we will return again soon."
