Diner Reviews
  • "We had a wonderful experience at the Ranch last Saturday! We probably eat here every few months and have never had a bad or disappointing meal. The staff are extremely attentive but not hovering and the meal was well paced; we never felt rushed. As always the food presentation was beautiful! My petite filet was cooked exactly the way I like my meat "Pittsburgh Style". Deryck, our waiter, asked if we were celebrating a special event, we mentioned it was our anniversary and when he brought the dessert menu he said we could choose almost anything from the menu to share and it would be compliments of the restaurant. We choose the fruit crostata and were not disappointed. As always, a great meal!"

  • "We ordered the Cowboy Ribeye and loved it! We had enough for my husband to have a wonderful steak sandwich the next day."

  • "Eating here the other night was very delectable and fun. I got the summer chef's menu and it was fabulous. It started with a perfectly stuffed and fried zucchini blossom and ended with a lovely tres leches cake with peach sabayon and raspberry sorbet. The service by our server, Nancy, was wonderful. She was very informative, attentive, and nice. The water guy... he was very present, filling up our water glasses. Unfortunately, everytime he refilled mine, he kept spilling water onto the table. This was very annoying. We had a 5:30pm reservation but as the meal went on, the restaurant became more lively and spirited with more people dining. Of course I'd come here again. I cannot wait!"

  • "The only complaints we had were the "very hot, right out of the oven" popovers were cold and the wine pour was very stingy...don't these places make enough on their mark-ups per bottle? Now they are shorting the customers with smaller pours? My son in law made a comment, he was told it was their customary pour but a staff member came back and topped off his glass to a fair level. The entrees were excellent but the side of mixed grilled vegetables were just chunks of limp eggplant swimming in oil. None of us ate them."

  • "We recently went to The Ranch for my wife's birthday. It was our third time to the restaurant and we had a great time once again. We were right across from the bar and the noise level was minimal. We love this restaurant for both the service and the food. The wait staff is extremely attentive but we never felt rushed. We tend to order a large number of courses to experience as many flavors as possible. This time we opted out of the Cowboy Ribeye to sample other menu selections and we were not disappointed. We really loved the flavors of the Heirloom Tomato Salad and the Steamed and Grilled Artichoke. We have not been disappointed with any of our food choices to date. We look forward to coming back again."

  • "I had high hopes, the ambiance was great, wine list was impressive, organic mixed tomato salad with 8 types of tomatoes from "the Farm" amazing, but the New York strip was just ok, the sauce on the plate was a little on the salty side. Super nice place, but I was expecting a better steak, at least on a par with Ruth's Chris. I'd go back & try something else, maybe a special or the $99 ribeye that they are famous for, but given the write up & my expectation I'm slightly dissapointed that it wasn't one of the great steaks of my life"

  • "The beef filet I had was PERFECT! Great attentive service and attention to details! One of the nicest restaurants I have experienced in a long time!"

  • "Ummmmmmm. this thing is monstrous and totally worth every penny. Also, the grilled artichoke, my wife and I ended up ordering two in a row because it was probably one of the most flavorful things we have ever tasted."

  • "This place was perfect to celebrate our anniversary, the food was excellent, the ambiance was romantic. The cheese cake was the best!"

  • "The food did not reach anyone's expectations in my party. My father and I ordered the Ranch's famous cowboy ribeye. The menu clearly states that ribeye contains " 36-40 oz. of Meat, 8 oz. of Fat and 14 oz. of Bone". I wish that I could upload a picture of the ribeye we received. Well over the 8 oz. of fat advertised. We mentioned this to the waiter who claimed that this was normal; however upon browsing the multitudes of ribeye pictures on yelp, not one had the level of fat we received. The other three in our party mirrored my level of disappointment. The short ribs were fatty and the filet had very little flavor. Were we not socially-conscious individuals, all four of us would have sent back our dishes."

  • "Side dishes limited. In comparison with Ruth Chris I'd rather go there. Sides are better at Ruth's. Steak is more flavorful at Ruth's. By the time you order a steak, salad and side your are at 60 + at this Ranch. And for that price the taste just wasn't there."

  • "I've heard about the Ranch here and there and was always interested in trying it out. My hubby and I finally made it there for our Anniversary dinner and we could have not picked a better restaurant for our special occasion! The atmosphere and decor is top notch- upscale but cozy. I'd explain the menu as Steakhouse meets Farm-to-Table. There were so many unique and fresh options on the menu, we had a hard time choosing. My husband ended up with a filet mignon (one of his favorite meals in general), and he raved that it was one of the best filets he has had in a really long time. My vegetarian entree was super delicious! We loved the artichoke appetizer and homemade ice cream dessert options. All courses were memorable!"

  • "The Ranch, is a combination of straight farm freshness with elegant chef presentation & parings. We requested service from Aaron, a waiter with sommelier lingo and jester'ish rapport. The dinners are as deep and rich as the dark woods and leather of the restaurant. Although pricey, The Ranch delivers on taste and style, appealing to a cacophony of OC public. Great for people watching, romantic setting, and dance bar scene."

  • "If you haven't been to the ranch....GO!! The flavors they bring out of every dish are an experience that everyone should enjoy. In addition to the Ranch they offer an upscale Saloon next door featuring nightly country western music and dancing. We really enjoyed spending our anniversary at The Ranch."

  • "Anniversary dinner on a Thursday night was fantastic. Derek was a very attentive server. Do yourself a favor and split a salad- there's plenty with your meal. Also, save room for dessert! I suggest you request a booth for a more intimate ambiance. Enjoy!"

  • "This was our first time at the Ranch and it will definitely not be our last... The whole experience was first class from beginning to end. Our food was absolutely delicious, we loves every bite. The whole evening was topped off by an amazing bowl of homemade salted caramel, butter popcorn, can Caramelized banana ice cream. The staff was very attentive and added to the great experience we had at the Ranch."

  • "Went for dinner. Wonderful ambiance in the restaurant, the food was expertly prepared and delicious. Our wait staff was knowledgeable and courteous. I had steak and my boyfriend had bass and we both loved it. We arrived early enough to sit at the small bar to enjoy a cocktail before dinner. A very good experience and I look forward to coming here again."

  • "I was impressed that everyone we came in contact with from the restaurant knew that we were celebrating our anniversary. I had put that in the reservation request, but didn't need to remind anyone. They even wrote "Happy Anniversary" in chocolate on our dessert plate!!"

  • "We have been avid Flemings and Maestro's fans in Newport Bch for a long time even tho we live in North OC. So we were very excited when we heard about The Ranch. Unfortunately, we can't recommend it. First, the service was outstanding-Nicole. Make sure you have her. But the food is another story. Very limited steak/meat selections; 5 ozs for 2 lamb chops? Seriously? Flemings and Maestros give you 4 or 5 chops! And no bone-in ribeye unless someone else at the table orders it with you for $99? I got my husband to chg his mind and get it with me and we were so disappointed. Over 50% fat - huge chunks. Total rip off. And the creamed spinach w/the lobster special was disgusting with these huge globs of cheese that hardened very fast"

  • "The location is a bit off, but don't let that fool you. It's beautiful inside and my favorite part is the wood beams that run along the top of the dinning room. The service was great and very friendly. I order there maple wood chicken and it was a bit salty to my taste, but it was very juicy. The chicken was cook perfectly! My husband enjoyed his meal as well. He ordered the prime rib and loved how it was not over season. For dessert the twisted smore was suggested by our waiter. I didn't care for the dessert too much. It was nothing really special just another twist on smore, but I would actually prefer the real stuff. All in all, we enjoyed the food and hospitality. I would def come back."

  • "This was a return visit for me, but a high school graduation celebration for my son. We finally took the plunge and ordered the massive cowboy ribeye. By far the best steak I have ever eaten. My wife ordered the prime rib and there was no difference in tenderness of cuts, as both were perfectly cooked, seasoned and tasting. The sides were of the highest quality (lobster mac and cheese and twice baked potatoe), and the desserts were fantastic (especially the Milky Way dessert and the ice cream trio...buttered pop corn gelatto, seriously??? I can't recommend this restaurant enough. And if you are looking for a quiet evening with a highly attentive staff I suggest going on a Monday night."

  • "Went on recommendation from a friend. Great selection of wines and whiskeys, but more importantly the food is incredible. Started with country fried quail on hosts recommendation...was skeptical but willing to try. So glad we did. Quail was moist, flavorful and tender...just cooked brilliantly. Wife had petite fillet and I had prime rib with lobster Mac n cheese side. We've had steaks at most of the top restaurants in the area and theses were by far the best. Everything about the meat was flawless. Will be returning soon."

  • "It was a first visit based on proximity and also a recommendation. The atmosphere was pleasant and everyone was clearly focused on customer satisfaction. A little too pricey to make this a common dinner event, but the menu, quality of food and ambiance makes it perfect for any special occasion."

  • "A contrast in themes as you enter the bottom floor of a high rise through an unconventional artistic wooden door. A wonderful gateway to ambiance, excellent food and wine, with irreproachable service to match. Farm fresh cuisine, meticulously prepared and presented. And adjacent to this experience awaits the Saloon, a high end venue of music and dancing in an upscale country environment. A special place that calls one back to celebrate the various events of life. We loved it."

  • "My family attended their Mother's Day Brunch service that featured a special 4 course menu that combined just the right selections of appetizers, salads, entrees and deserts. The wait staff was simply outstanding, providing us on the spot service while allowing us a relaxed and enjoyable experience. This was by far the best such special event I have experienced. "

  • "Superb Service. Good eye for detail. We were there for Mother's Day Brunch. We had the country fried oysters and Cheese Blintz. The oysters were fabulous. Lightly fried with an excellent spicy sauce. I usually prefer oysters raw, but I am glad the waiter suggested this item. The Blintz was excellent and a wonderful sauce. The clam chowder soup was creamy without being dense. Flavor in each and every spoonful! For the main course I had the duck confit has and my wife had the french toast. The duck was good, but not extraordinary. I am not a fan of French Toast. In matter of fact, I always avoid it. But I tried a bite of my wife's french toast and then had a number more. WOW! simply delightful. Dessert was good. "

  • "Prime rib was excellent, no significant fat rind, medium rare right out to the edge! The quail was my first experience, and it was a great treat. Bar was crowded on Friday night, too many line dances, not enough 2-steppin!"
    Dined on 5/9/2014
  • "We enjoyed creating our own kind of tasting menu of various appetizers and entrees. The wine list and cocktail lists were also varied and interesting. The waiters supplied good suggestions. I would add that we are not giant portion people, which seemed to be different than other clientele. There was a sampling menu alternative with wine pairings and dessert, which is a good idea, but needs some re-thinking for foodies like our party. The location is on the first floor of an office building without any distinguishing features."
