  • "I tried the porch a week after they opened years ago and I was not impressed and had not returned until last week. Having lived and worked in the Midtown Sacramento area for years I eat out 3-4 times per week at many of the mid tier and finer establishments. My experience was pleasant. Service was quick and attentive. The drinks were tasty and the ambience pleasant with many couples out on a Friday night. I was surprised that the Porch seems to have gotten their food game together. My Fried Chicken was tasty and hot with great sides that complimented the dish. Overall I would return to the Porch. My only negative is I feel the pricing on the plates is too high in comparison to similar restaurants in the area."

  • "I love the Porch and look forward to eating there whenever in Sac. Making reservations was frustrating to put it mildly! I called and left a message as I am not real good on the computer and did not want to do it through your website or email address, however, no one ever called back so when my husband got home he went on the computer and made the reservations for us. Very inconvenient for both of us! We are not 20, 30 or 40 something's where all that techie stuff comes natural! We are in our 70's and still like using the phone. Not sure what we will do in the future as there are many wonderful restaurants in Sac. that will take reservations on the phone! Thanks for listening, Sincerely, Karen Katzman"

Everyone tried something different off the menu and was satisfied with the flavors and the amount of food was very generous. It was to celebrate my daughters birthday and they personalized the menu by adding her name and wishing her a Happy Birthday. Will go back again, and again!"

The fried chicken was amazing...tender and juicy not greasy...and I am a sweet potatoe fries junkie and these were way at the top of my list. From the pickled watermelon to the fluffy bisquits and a ton of food. Guarenteed doggie bag and 10% discount for MC goers!. Loved it...and Chef Coco is a kick!"

  • "The fried green tomatoes were an updated form of an old southern favorite. Very good and a portion that could easily be shared. The portions were large and the food really good. The fried chicken resulted in taking enough home to make chicken salad for two meals for two people. Portions would be great to share."

  • "It was wonderful. We had the Bloody Mary punch bowl, and each person ordered something different, and each dish was great! We were having brunch, and I had the biscuits and gravy. Everyone LOVED it, as we all shared bites. The shrimp and grits, fried chicken Benedict, shrimp po'boy( did I spell that right?), it was all great. Totally would recommend."

  • "We came here months ago and had a horrible dinning experience but we decided to give them a second chance. We came for brunch this time. The service was still extremely slow and the food is under seasoned. If there is a next time I'm going to bring my own hot sauce to give the food some flavor."

This is our second time here and the first time wasn't that great either. But we thought maybe it had changed. Won't be back."

  • "I'm not big on leaving reviews, but was very surprised by the sub-par service we received here. We heard rave reviews and looked forward to it all week. We arrived a few minutes early, were seated immediately, then waited 10 minutes before our server said she'd be "just a minute" then another 10 minutes until she took our order. (Note: it wasn't that busy) Things got a little better until we realized that our water cups were dirty with leftover lipstick on the rim - gross. The food was absolutely delicious so we weren't too upset. The cherry though was the waitress's failure to put in our side order which we didn't receive it until the last bites of our dishes (no apology or explanation). Waitress's overall demeanor was dismissive as well."

  • "We've had our eye on this place for a while, but this was the first time we had the chance to stop in. The food is comfort food - burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, french fries, etc - but done really well. We started with the baked brie - the bread was toasted perfectly, and the beet-blackberry jelly was amazing. Then we had a salad and the pulled-pork sandwich with fries. The salad was good, but the sandwich and fries were AMAZING. Licked the plate clean. If you eat here, ask for Kyle - he's a great server, and took really good care of us."

In general, the portions were adequate to generous; our server was great and aimed to please; however, the food (fried okra, gouda grits and chicken on waffle and French Toast) was generally without depth of flavor. Probably won't return unless it's with a group and the company out-rates the food."

  • "I've been to The Porch many times for lunch and dinner, and always love the food. I wanted to try their brunch, so when my parents came into town for Father's Day I took them here. Our server was very friendly, and did an excellent job checking in regularly despite the fact that she was clearly trying to handle several tables. The bar and kitchen however seemed overwhelmed. Two out of our three cocktails were made incorrectly and one was so off it had to be sent back (they had accidentally used lemon juice where they should have used simple syrup). Our appetizers came out quickly, but we waited for over an hour for our main dishes. Luckily, the food was excellent, the portions HUGE, and my parents thought it was worth the wait."

  • "We went there for Father's day and the place was pretty filled up and vibrant. The food and drink selection was inventive and all sounded delicious. The food we ordered was great tasting; however, it took FOREVER to come out. We have three kids including a little 11 month old so waiting around for food is not ideal. Service was good though, she even went outside to fetch the hubs and kids once the food came because they had to go outside to walk around. We had beignets which came with fresh fruit, delicious, fried okra, delicious and shrimp and grits, delicious. Food was a little cold and hard though since it took a while to get to us."

  • "Nice Restaurant with modern design fused with southern touches. The food was delicious and the service very good and the waiters were very attentive. Mostly southern cuisine but light options available in salads. The grilled chicken was perfect on the salad. Buttermilk biscuits were wonderful. The fried green tomatoes were a treat. The drink menu with many bourbon cocktails also looked intriguing. Would definitely go back and try the gouda grits next time! Their brunch must be amazing."

  • "First time in and was quite impressed. Wide choice, flavorful seasonings, some spicy but not crazy hot. A good representation of Southern United States food. Specialty cocktails diverse and interesting, with a huge selection of bourbons (but they need a quality vermouth!). Prices for bourbon and wine are quite restrained. Surprisingly wide selection of quality wines, both by the bottle and by the glass. We'll be back."

  • "The Porch is nice & quaint, but not my cup of tea. A friend suggested it & it is a cute place. Due to the small size it is crowded & NOISY! It was difficult to have conversation seated inside. Our waiter was pleasant but the wait for brunch was beyond ridiculous. The excuse about there being a large party they had to serve wasn't acceptable. The food was good but nothing outstanding. The pictures on the website made it look like an upscale spot, but, it's def laid back casual. So, if that's what you're looking for, this place is great. The BBQ shrimp & grits was really good. It's a decent place, just not what I prefer."

  • "This was my third visit. On the first visit I had the Shrimp and Grits with the smoked gouda grits - they were delicious and full of flavor. I had them again on my second visit and I noticed that the flavor wasn't nearly as intense. On the third visit, the smoked gouda flavor was barely discernible and the grits were gritty and lumpy. Fried green tomatoes were also bland. While the menu is interesting, the actual food itself is bland and overpriced for what you get. The restaurant itself could desperately use some sound deadening/absorbing materials. There's "lively" and there's "obnoxious" and the noise level from the bar tends toward obnoxious when you're trying to enjoy a meal with family and friends in the restaurant."

Even though we were only five, it was impossible to carry on a civilized conversation without yelling Everything else was just fine - except for the "noise pollution."   • "I can't seem to understand how you can be a southern style restaurant and not season your chicken I had the fried chicken the moment I picked it up the skin fell off and I tasted the meat it had to be the most bland chicken I've ever had in my entire life and it also came with I think a biscuit but how does a biscuit be flaky and hard at the same time.I bought my girl there for her birthday her food was okay but my food I could not even reheated it the next day i tried to make it taste better with S&P but to no avail. And the cheese grits I have no words for I think the highlight was the yams with pecans and marshmallows and my drink. so no I would not go back and definitely wouldn't tell anyone that is my friend and expect to keep them"

I respect a restaurant that has a vision and a menu that fits that vision but I'm not sure The Porch's menu is diverse enough. The cocktails on the other hand and the outdoor seating will make me want to return but small bites and drinks but it will be awhile before I try dinner again. "

  • "We had dinner on a Tuesday evening to celebrate our daughter's 15th birthday. Things started off great right away with personalized menus wishing her a happy 15th. Food was tasty, rich but not heavy, perfectly seasoned, a real delight. I had the 5 point flat iron steak, my wife and daughter had the vegetable medley and bbq shrimp. We finished the evening with avocado ice cream, complete with birthday candle. My daughter beamed the whole evening. Well worth it. Highly recommended."

  • "We took my 9 month old, 2 year old niece and parents here for a delayed Mothers Day Brunch. Food was excellent. Service was good. A little annoyed we couldn't have an open table on the patio, but understood that hostess had to save for an upcoming reservation (even though another table finished before reservation would have arrived). Not a place to go if you are on a diet, but fried avocado was EXCELLENT!"

  • "Best chicken and waffles ever! this version, took C&W to the next level. marshmallows and pecan were torched on waffle, the chicken was deconstructed to chicken strips for more crunch but still was moist, topped with a thick crispy bacon. the side had sweet potato butter and warmed maple syrup.   • "I was doubtful when I read the menu but since it was my friend's turn to pick a restaurant, I decided to just go with it. And now I have to say that I'm glad I did! Although there are a lot of fried food on the menu, I was able to find a few healthier choices. I had the flat iron beef. It was tender and it had the most interesting onion jam with a little kick. The fresh beans where cooked perfectly crisp. My only complaint was the noise level - too loud. Having a conversation was difficult. "
