  • "We had reservations for dinner so our wait time was only slight. Otherwise I think we would have had a wait time of 45 minutes to an hour. This place was packed the entire time we were there. This may be, in part, due to it being 2nd Saturday. But the food was wonderful. I had the tri tip with the warmed blue cheese, bacon potato salad. The asparagus that came with was crisp and grilled perfectly. I also shared a dessert of banana split cake and buttermilk ice cream. I absolutely LOVE the buttermilk ice cream. Oh, I nearly forgot that we also shared a skillet cornbread starter. It was delicious. Truly a great place for a group and/or date night."

  • "We have been to The Porch a few times and always enjoy the Southern cooking style food and the excellent service. Unfortunately the place is super noisy which makes having a conversation nearly impossible. This is an older building and not much can be done about the noise. Just go enjoy the food but don't plan on talking."

  • "I took my friend to the porch for her birthday. I let the restaurant know ahead of time so they personalized our menus...I love this touch. My friend cried-- she was touched. The waiter recommended a drink (the top one on the list-forgot the name) and it was perfect for a sunny afternoon; refreshing. My friend ordered the fried chicken po boy and herb fries, I opted for the spinach salad; I love that you can get both healthy and comfort foods. We sat outside, on the porch. and although the surroundings aren't the best. I love that they at least have an outdoor dining option. They surprised her with a scoop of their homemade vanilla ice cream which was delish; very buttery. It was perfect for the occasion. Very satisfied customer"

  • "The porch was very nice and quiet great for dinning with a partner. They should try not to use fish oil with all their cooking. People who have allergy to fish can not eat their because everything is in fish oil. If they change that i would of scored higher on the food."

Food was not good, waiter was extremely rude and manager was aware there were issues going on and had the waiter reluctantly offer free dessert from the manager. Would have been nice if manager came over to inquire. I think he/she should have heard what I had to say."

  • "The food was not amazing and severely lacked salt. The service was okay but not that great. This was a birthday celebration and they never brought the complimentary desert with the candle, although they walked past our table with a candle lit desert for another table. Ultimately we ordered two of the coconut rum cakes with lots of forks. This cake was so dry it really was more like toast! This restaurant misses the mark completely. The food is neither tasty nor well-seasoned and the staff could care less if you’re happy with your meal or not. The Porch ruined a very good bday."

  • "The food was fantastic, service was great, ambience was nice; the only less than fantastic thing was how long it took to get our meal. We were seated for about an hour by the time the meal was served. We did receive our drinks and appetizers within that hour, but our meal was served a full hour after we sat down."

  • "Our group of 8 + a toddler took up half of the patio. We were greeted with special menus wishing our guest of honor a happy birthday. The server was very attentive and friendly. The drinks were excellent - no phony mixers, just real ingredients with simple syrup for sweetener. Brie appetizer was delicious served with a fruit and tomato jam. Shrimp salad was excellent, and most raved about their main courses. I would have rated the food excellent, but the fried chicken, although very good, had very thick crust which separated from the meat with the bite and the seasoning was ok. Overall, a great dining experience and highly recommended."

  • "Visiting Sacramento from S.F., it was tough to choose where I would have my one dinner in town. The Porch turned out to be one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. The service was friendly and professional, the drinks were out of this world, and the food was decadent with generous portions. Fried green tomatoes were perfect! The fried chicken was some of the best I've had. And the pork belly . . . So rich with a sweet glaze, it was over the top and I couldn't stop eating it! Grasshopper cake at the end was absolutely gorgeous and enough for two (or three) to share. So pleased we ended up at The Porch, if you are in Sacramento and want over-the-top comfort food in a classy, subdued atmosphere, this is the place."

  • "This was my third lunchtime visit to The Porch. The service is always prompt, friendly, and helpful. The menu takes traditional southern food and kicks it up a notch. On this visit, the BBQ Shrimp and Grits dish was really good as was the steak sandwich."

  • "This was my second time visiting The Porch. And I am sad to say my experience has left me never wanting to return. To start off my reservation was 8:00pm, we were seated at 8:30pm. They were out of three of the seven items we ordered. Then the kitchen somehow "dropped" our order. We received a salad within 15 minutes of ordering and 45 minutes later the server came out to apologize on behalf of the kitchen for having lost our ticket. We arrived at 7:55pm and finally ate at 9:45pm. I understand the restaurant was unusually busy. And both the server and hostess were extremely apologetic, but this isn't an establishment I'll be returning to."

  • "The Porch did not deliver as I expected. We started with the Pepper Jack Mac & Cheese. Not bad. Our dinners arrived almost immediately, which was a little offputting. My husband had the Fried Oyster dinner. It was a nice presentation and he enjoyed the meal. I chose the Barbequed Shrimp and Grits. Grits with bacon strips and large shrimp covered in barbeque sauce. The barbeque sauce was so overpowering, that it completely overshadowed the flavor of the grits and the shrimp. I have NO idea why anyone would do that. We shared the blood orange tart. Very mild and fairly tasteless. As we were preparing to leave, the bus person was actually standing next to me, and I felt like he was rushing us."

  • "First time we tried this and was satisfied with the food. Ambience was a little loud for conversation, but the wait staff was excellent and helpful. Biscuits were very warm and flaky. Crab Louie salad was fine, but amount of crab was a bit skimpy. Asked for dressing on the side, but came with it included on the salad. When mentioned, staff corrected it immediately. We would return here, but try for a less busy time."

  • "The food at this place was good. Our server was attentive at first but as the evening went along the service seemed to change. We ordered drinks & appetizers then ordered our salad and entree, The drinks, appetizer and salad came at a reasonable pace. The salad was delivered by a runner not our server and he had an attitude. We ordered the salad without the dressing listed and when it came it didn't look like it had dressing on it so I made a comment about it & the runner who brought it to us made a snide comment. Our entree took another 50 minutes to reach our table. When it finally arrived my entree (chicken fried steak) was over cooked. People who cam in after we finished our salad course received their entree before we did."

  • "The food was only good because when we look at what all 3 of us had, some was very good and some was only fair. We had the Pepper Jack Mac & Cheese as a starter; excellent. My daughter is a vegetarian, but there was not much in the way of selections for her. Most of the no-meat items had some form of meat/fowl as a base. VERY limited. She was only able to have a spinach salad with the meat removed. I had the chicken fried steak. The steak did not have much flavor, but the mashed potatoes were very good. My wife had the pork shank, as said it was very good. I might go back again, but hopefully they will expand the menu a bit, with some more "southern" style food, providing a bit more variety, as well as expand on vegetarian entrees."

  • "This was our second trip to The Porch and probably our last. The food is very good but 2.5 hours for dinner indicates there is a problem with how the restaurant is managed. Our waitress was excellent, and our food arrived hot, which suggests to me that the problem is not with the service but elsewhere. We were seated immediately upon arrival (6:30pm). It took at least 30 minutes to get our drinks and the restaurant wasn't full yet. It took an hour and 20 minutes to get our food. Orders came out with different sides than those listed on the menu. However, we were charged for sides that we wanted but couldn't substitute earlier. Our waitress was working hard. It's a mystery why everything took so long and the atmosphere unorganized."

  • "I had heard about The Porch and we finally made it there for a Saturday morning brunch. What a great place! The service was fantastic out of the gate. We started with a famous bloody mary - all I can say is that if you haven't had one here - you need to. We were served a chocolate marshmallow banana bread that hits the spot with their fantastic coffee, that and a lovely order of pig shaped beignets with a wonderful apple cinnamon jam. Wonderful and reminded us of our trip to New Orleans. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles and I had the BBQ shrimp and grits (1/2 order - which is plenty!). Both of our meals were perfection. The atmosphere is warm, lively, fun and charming."

  • "We arrived at The Porch with simple time for drinks and dinner, maybe dessert. We had a tasty fried chicken salad and shared a juicy, delicious pulled pork sandwich. However, when it was time to ask for the check, we were ignored. It took over 30 minutes to get the check and pay. Energetic restaurant, delicious food. I'll give it another chance, but was very disappointed with the service."
