A word from The Pelican Club
The Pelican Club, offering a wide range of fabulous New Orleans dishes, consists of three dining rooms and a large bar fashioned from a handsome, 19th-century French Quarter townhouse, rising from the corner of Bienville Street and Exchange Place in the heart of the French Quarter. Owner, Richard Hughes, and his wife, Jean Stinnett-Hughes, transformed a neglected architectural gem into a welcoming restaurant decorated in a crisp blend of traditional and contemporary. Each room has its own ambiance, created with such diverse elements as burnished Louisiana cypress, contemporary paintings by New Orleans artists, antique prints, and the dramatic contrast of black-leather banquettes against cream-colored brick walls. Such an atmosphere is sure to make your meal feel like a truly New Orleans experience.Continued

  • "I've dined here several times and have been impressed every time!"

  • "Excellent front of house and wait staff, felt special from the moment we walked in. Everyone enjoyed the food. I had the Barbeque Shrimp...it was one of the best things I've ever eaten!!!"

  • "Everything would have been perfect, if we could have heard our waiter and been able to talk to each other. It was so incredibly noisey it made it imposible to enjoy our dinner. I'm glad we had a gift certificate, because I would have been very upset to have to pay for that experience. The food was wonderful, however."

  • "wait staff was either short or just didn't care. we couldn't get one steady waiter or adequate service. felt as though we slipped thru the cracks,"

  • "The food was good. The environment was warm and cosy. The only problem was the noise level because of the group dining in with us but that really can't be helped."

  • "Enjoyed the New Orleans culinary dinning experience as outsiders... Wonderful restaurant!"

  • "Went here for dinner during a brief stay in the Crescent City and it was a memorable experience. First suggestion is to make a reservation using OpenTable. It is very easy to do and there is no confusion when you enter the restaurant. Also suggest confirming the reservation by calling TPC ahead of time in the event of Internet mishaps. Now to the dining experience. I chose the "Coolinary" fixed price menu, which was three courses plus a cocktail pairing with each course. The knowledgeable serving staff was excellent, as we were very well taken care of from start to finish. Even the server in training was very attentive. Anyone wanting a delicious and filling meal with excellent staff in a quiet and ambient setting, try The Pelican Club."

  • "Pelican Club has the best Coolinary Menu every year. The wine pairing with the menu is excellent. It is the perfect place for dinner after wandering Royal on Dirty Linen Night!"

  • "This was my first visit on a Saturday night and it was a lot livlier than other days of the week. The food and service was still excellent even with the crowd. This is one of the best restaurants in the Quarter!"

  • "New Orleans is filled with wonderful food but one of my favorites is the pelican house for fine dining. Exceptional service, good ambience and fabulous food. We will be back"

  • "Went to have the coolinary menu. The steak was perfectly cooked and quite possibly one of the best I've had. Erin was a fantastic server- friendly, attentive, and knowledgable. Loved the old school vibe of the wood panels and long twisting booths, had an old classic look."

  • "We happened to be in NOLA over the weekend when they had the "White Linen Night" as well the start of "COOLinary", a month long experience of some wonderful restaurants that offers a special discounted 2 or 3 course menu for lunch and dinner. Bravo to Pelican Club for this year's outstanding menu selections as well as cocktails. The tuna sashimi was sublime with the wasabi glaze, the filet was well seasoned and tender and the crab cake with crab you can see. We went back a second night just so we could try different things. Kudos!"

  • "We had anticipated a nice evening for my husband and I at The Pelican Club. We were referred there by our neighbors and were really looking forward to it. We arrived and were seated a a table for 2 up against a wall which was ok. The problem was we were so close to the next table and the waiter was rather large so basically his rear was in my space every time he came to the table next to ours. The food was so so. I had the crabcakes and my husband had the steak and we had a salad with Maytag bleu cheese dressing. The salad was great. For dessert we had the white chocolate bread pudding which was also very good. I think this place would be good for groups of people but not so much for a romantic dinner."

  • "Reliably excellent! The fixed rice 3-course menu is very good value for money. Tonight's offering featured a Seafood Martini for a starter - perfect for a hot summer evening, and the filet topped with a crab cake was just right for the main entree. As usual I went for the bread pudding for dessert - no disappointment there."

  • "Food was wonderful and service was perfect, My only regret is that I have lived in New Orleans for more than fifty years and this was my first time at the Pelican Club. My mom said it was the best lobster dinner she has ever had. Parking at The Hotel Montelone made it especially easy as it was only a few yards away from the Pelican Club great for folks that can't get around like they used to."

  • "Went for the Coolinary special available in summer & early fall. One of the great bargains, and the regular menu is well priced. Lots of excellent choices, including their most famous. Wine parings for $22.50 with a number of choices. One of our party ordered an unfamiliar cocktail. He hated it. They took it back with a smile & "certainly" and quickly brought him something else. New Orleans' service at its best. Lovely room. Restaurant open from a plaza-walkway. Nice tables outside with an almost-European feel. Unfortunately, the inside can get very noisy. The first rooms seems to be a tad quieter. All-in-all, a great place with terrific food & lovely ambiance."

  • "Celebrated my birthday with family. Had reservation. Seated immediately. Consistently delicious every time we eat here. Good wines by the glass. Love lobster martini, filet, paneed gulf fish, stuffed lobster, chocolate decedence cake, creme brulee. We have never have a complaint about the Pelican Club."

  • "Pelican Club is one of our go to places each time we visit New Orleans. There is so much selection to choose from in New Orleans for great dining, but Pelican Club stands out in a league all its own. It's a must visit destination. Excellent appetizers, entrees and desserts!"

  • "My wife and I played tourist for our 10th anniversary and stayed downtown. We had dinner at the Pelican Club and took advantage of their summer special - three courses for $36 - and added the cocktail/wine pairing for $22. My wife had the steak (a $3 or $4 upgrade) and I had the lobster (same as the steak). Both were cooked perfectly. The appetizers were a traditional wedge salad with blue cheese and bacon, but with romaine instead of iceberg, and the crispy calamari. The salad is a simple dish that depends on good ingredients. The calamari has a Japanese twist. Both were very good. Dessert was creme brûlée and bread pudding. My wife wouldn't share much of the brûlée, but the bread pudding was like magic - very light and very rich."

  • "This is our fourth time at the Pelican Club and all have been great. Food is very good to outstanding. The service has been outstanding. the bar is also very good and on Saturdays there is a live piano. I believe the piano is also on other days, but don't know which ones."

  • "It was our first time to New Orleans so we looked online for places to eat and found this restaurant. Based on the website, it seemed like a great place. My personal experience was quite different. The filet mignon came out way overcooked and pecan pie was lacking in freshness. I am not the type to complain but when asked how my food was, I was honest and told them. They said they would relay the info to the chef but I never got an apology. This bothered me so I made it a point to email the restaurant. They answered me back asking the date I was there and I replied. It has been 3 weeks now and they still have not responded. I would have given the restaurant another chance but due to the poor customer service, I will not be returning"

  • "The cocktails arrived quickly and were well-made. The corn-and-crab bisque was excellent, 5 stars. The quail over cheese grits with red wine reduction and mushrooms was tasty, but could have benefitted from a sharper cheese flavor overall. The seafood cioppino was a messy, but very good dish. With the tomato sauce everywhere, it was a bit of a chore to peel the shrimps without the red sauce getting onto hands, napkins, tablecloth, etc."

  • "Given that this is a really, really nice place, their prices are reasonable and specials are a true value. Little noisy on a Saturday night, but... they did make our anniversary special."

  • "Seated promptly for a late reservation on a Friday. A large group seated nearby was VERY loud....so much so, that I had to literally yell our drink orders to the server, who apologized for the noise level. Once they cleared out, the ambience improved significantly. The menu offers a fixed price, four-course meal option or a la carte. We opted for the a la carte option. For starters we tried the Baked Oysters on the Half Shell. It was VERY hot & VERY good. Both my wife and I selected the Whole Crispy Flounder. While not a filet, picking through the bones was worth it. Outstanding. A fine meal with very good service and modestly priced for a nice French Quarter restaurant. Not a "fancy" establishment but well worthy of special occasions."

  • "First time to dine there. We were able to find parking within two blocks. Food & service excellent, rather large servings. Don't miss the white chocolate bread pudding! There was fraternity party going on close to us that was extremely noisy, but it didn't ruin the meal. Would definitely go back."

  • "The Pelican Club is a hidden gem! Our experience was a great one from the moment we sat down. When we sat down, our servicer brought our attention to the 3 course menu choices and it did not disappoint. The choices where great and if you are someone who enjoys eating something prepared in a new and refreshing way this is your place. This was not what we were expecting and we were not disappointed. This was the best meal that we had in New Orleans during our stay! I recommend the crab cakes because they were the best I have ever eaten. The price for two was reasonable but we chose not to have the wine paring. Even if you do the wine paring the pricing seemed a good deal also. We loved this place and would eat here again."
