A word from The Pelican Club
The Pelican Club, offering a wide range of fabulous New Orleans dishes, consists of three dining rooms and a large bar fashioned from a handsome, 19th-century French Quarter townhouse, rising from the corner of Bienville Street and Exchange Place in the heart of the French Quarter. Owner, Richard Hughes, and his wife, Jean Stinnett-Hughes, transformed a neglected architectural gem into a welcoming restaurant decorated in a crisp blend of traditional and contemporary. Each room has its own ambiance, created with such diverse elements as burnished Louisiana cypress, contemporary paintings by New Orleans artists, antique prints, and the dramatic contrast of black-leather banquettes against cream-colored brick walls. Such an atmosphere is sure to make your meal feel like a truly New Orleans experience.Continued

  • "We had eaten here several years ago and wanted to try it again on this trip and we were not disappointed! Food was outstanding and the service was excellent! The atmosphere is very good, in both the bar area and dining room....both were elegant. Very good wine list as well."

  • "This was our first visit to The Pelican Club and it was a good experience. Although the setting COULD have been quite romantic, we found ourselves perched right next to a loud group of four. Since the crowds are going to be heavier on a Saturday evening, we took it all in stride, even though it was distracting and killed any chance for romance despite the lovely setting and our corner table. The waiter was very professional, but could use a shot of "happy" and the food was quite good. Must try the Pelican Club oysters! Yummmm!"

  • "This restaurant was recommended by some local NO friends as one of the best. Greeted by the owner and well tended by the staff When everyone at the table says "Oh, you have to try my dish", you know it all tasty. The whole fish was excellent, oysters perfect and we had four different desserts all very good. Would not change a thing."

  • "I have favorite restaurants in the cities that I travel to frequently. The Pelican Club is by far my favorite in NOLA. Although in the French Quarter, it is tucked away in a quiet alleyway. It seems like a place the locals would go to for fine dining rather than some of the over-hyped establishments in the quarter run by celebrity chefs or establishments that are long past their prime and are only living on past laurels. The 4-course prix-fixe menu has most of the alacarte items and is a bargain."

  • "The bread pudding in N O. is at the Pelican club. It was the absolute best.. and we tasted quite a few during our stay. The service was fantastic."

  • "Really enjoyed the Pelican Club. Nice variety of wines to go with the numerous food options. I'd go back."

  • "We have been to New Orleans dozens of times, but this was our 1st visit to the Pelican Club. It is located just off of a beautiful alley and it was an absolute treat. Great bar for a drink before dinner and the food was top notch with a nice variety of choices. Service was very professional."

  • "*Corn bisque is a must. Perfectly executed. Very balanced-- fabulous texture and flavor. ***Roasted Qual in Cheese Grits was one of the best items I had in Nola!!! Terrifically savory and mind melting. The duck dish was a little disappointing-- very undercooked. **The coconut cream pie was TO DIE FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Smooth, creamy, authentic coconut flavor (not over done), with a cup of coffee you are nearly in heaven."

  • "It was a slow night when we dined but we were not disappointed. The service was excellent as was the food. The four course prix fix was a great bargain, but make sure you are hungry as it is a lot of food. The gumbo is excellent and the duck three ways very tasty and well prepared. Convenient location in French Quarter, but off the main streets. Well worth the visit."

  • "My husband made reservations to a steakhouse, but since we were on vacation I wanted to try something local and off our usual beaten path. We had no regrets about making the decision to change restutants. The noise level of the dining room took some time to adjust to, but that is the worst thing we can say about our entire experience. Our server Mike O was very knowledgeable about the menu and connected to us on a personal level. The food was exceptional! We dined from the 4 Course Prix Fixe menu and were delighted with our choices (corn and crab bisque, baked oysters, escargot casserole, whole crispy flounder (speckled trout served that night), Maine lobster, shrimp and scallops, bourbon pecan pie, and chocolate decadence cake) and value."

  • "I went to the Pelican several years ago and I still remember the great quality of the fish plates that ate that time. This time wasn't terrific but not bad. I ate escargots as appetizers and even that the sauce was good, it was really heavy specially oily. The main course was a fish, but the piece wasn't shape as expected and due to the difference in thickness, some parts were really dry. The sauce also wasn't creamy and looks like separate. I wasn't bad but nothing to remember."

  • "The food was superb. Mike our waiter was the most professional, Knowledgeable waiter I have ever encountered. His recommendations were excellent. We are foodies and this was a memorable evening."

  • "Services was excellent and ambiance was very good. My meal and appetizer was excellent however my wife did not much care for hers. It was quiet for a Sunday night and reservation system did not allow me to reserve the time I wanted even though the place was 3/4 empty. In such a busy town the place was a bit too empty for me, I like the feel of a busy place, but otherwise 3.5/4 stars out of 5 for food, ambiance/service 4.5."

  • "This place is a must! We have never been disappointed! My husband claims he has had his lifetime favorite meal here. The corn/crab bisque is the best of any I've ever had. "

  • "I came in with a friend and after looking at the menu, we decided to split the baked oysters, bbq shrimp and the pecan pie. We each got another appetizer (I got the gumbo). Everything was wonderful and the service was so nice. There were only two of us, but the restaurant seemed to be perfect for groups of 6-10 as well. It felt lively and fun but you weren't drowned out by the noise. "

  • "We love coming to the Pelican Club and sitting in the piano bar area. The atmosphere is so nice with the fabulous piano music. The food is consistently delicious. Also the offer 4 course meals that are a good deal. The seafood is very fresh and our server was very attentive without being to bothersome...we also go every Christmas with good friends and always have such a fun evening!"

  • "We were seated where cold air hit us throughout to the point we needed to use our napkins to cover our frozen arms. We asked for it to be turned so it would not be so cold but it continued. It took an hour to get our first course, only to find out that they forgot our first course for two of us; so two of us had our second course while the other two had their first course. The food was fabulous as usual, but the service was the worst I've ever seen. We complained and there was not attempt to correct the problem except for the waiter saying "the guy in the back is new and I don't want to get him in trouble" --- also we were celebrating a birthday that got totally ignored although on the reservation and told to the waiter."

  • "The Pelican Club is one of those rare finds - a restaurant where every member of the family is excited to come and all are always happy with the dining experience. Adults appreciate the excellent service, the amazing art and the varied selections. And despite being a high quality "white tablecloth" venue, kids are made welcome and find selections to suit them as well. It soon became one of our New Orleans favorites and we are thrilled to attend over and over. Our favorites: the lobster special, the fish with lump crabmeat, the duck with each item served on individual plates so no food touches - an accommodation always handled graciously, rack of lamb. And the scallop appetizer!"

  • "Long one of my very favorite restaurants in New Orleans, the Pelican Club never fails to delight with great food, impeccable service and great ambiance. I honestly think that the Pelican Club is one of New Orleans' best restaurants. Hidden away a bit and without the blaring trumpets of the old-line favorites, I never fail to be amazed by traditional New Orleans dishes, usually prepared with a little twist that makes you smile both before and after you eat. "

  • "Table was waiting for us. Service was very good despite the restaurant being full, and the food was very good. We had a party of six and everyone had a very good time. Highly recommended. Parking was very close and part of the parking bill was paid by restaurant. Can't beat that!"

  • "We enjoyed an early dinner so the noise level was low but it did get a little noisy as the tables started to fill. All tables are in one large rectangular room however, I loved how they decorated it so to seem like 3 complexly separate rooms. The place is beautiful, the food and service were very good. I recommend dinner at the Pelican Club!"

  • "The service was excellent, but the food was delicious and plentiful. OMG, the food was absolutely yummy and there was so much of it - MY KIND OF PLACE. I will have no problem recommending The Pelican Club."

  • "What should have been a pleasant dining experience at the Pelican Club was not. The noise level was not just energetic but unbelievably loud. People were screaming to their fellow diners at the same table. We could not even hear ourselves talk nor talk to the server without him bending over next to us. We have been to noisy restaurants before but nothing like this."

  • "Beautiful restaurant. But rushed our appetizers - both came out within 5 minutes of ordering and there really wasn't room for the plates on our very small table. Waitress was very friendly. Seemed like the food was made ahead and un remarkable except for the baked oysters which were outstanding. "

  • "We made a late reservation for dinner after JazzFest. The food was excellent, the rack of Lamb the best I have ever had. The sauces were excellent. Our waiter was very helpful in directing us to the dinner choices we all enjoyed."

  • "Just like their namesake bird, they really know how to handle fish. The crispy flounder is one of New Orleans' great dishes."

  • "We had dinner here as a reception after getting married and came back for our 1st Anniversary. Everything was perfect!!! Will be back again year after year."

  • "This is about our 3rd time at Pelican. It never disappoints. The chef really knows how to handle fish. The crab cakes appetizer was fabulous. They have a signature whole flounder dish in a slightly sweet Asian sauce which is delicious, but unfortunately has a myriad of bones and takes forever to eat. I still like it, but my husband said he wouldn't order it again. The service was as always extremely good and very friendly. They also have very good cocktails."
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "Service was good and the servers were friendly. The Pelican Club is a beautiful place but a signature dish (the crispy flounder) was way over done. The mixed green salad was good but the entree left us with an unmemorable evening."

  • "I have been here before and made my reservations through Open Table weeks before my trip to New Orleans. Had the Cioppino and had a wonderful (but a little bit messy) time searching for and enjoying shrimp, scallops, shrimp, and fish from my pot. Then crispy bread to soak up every last drop of sauce. My colleague had the lamb and was kind enough to share. So delicate and tasty. This is a great place to eat and in fact, dine. I will be back on business in five weeks. I look forward to another great dinner at the Pelican Club!"

  • "This is just a great restaurant, plain and simple. It's beautiful, the food is marvelous, the service very attentive without being overbearing. My only complaint is that the fish that I ordered was not what I expected. It's my fault for not inquiring as to the preparation. I expected it to be grilled, but it was lightly breaded and sauteed. I would have preferred the fish to be grilled. Other than that, an excellent meal."
