Diner Reviews
  • "Our evening at the Kitchen was truly memorable. The food was exquisite, and our waiter- Kenneth- was maybe the best we've had anywhere."

  • "Really amazing service - so friendly and prompt. They even waited to deliver dessert when they saw my husband leave the table. The food was fantastic - oysters, rustic bread, homemade pasta, perfectly cooked scallops."

  • "I've been to and loved The Kitchen Denver - decided to try the original. While the food was good, the menu wasn't as big as in the Denver restaurant. In addition, the service was not great. The staff was friendly enough, but it took 3 hours for a weekday dinner for me and my friend. There was a long wait between finishing a shared appetizer and entrees arriving (at least 40 minutes, probably more) and the time between having our entree dishes removed and leaving (we ordered dessert, but it was still over 1 hour). The food was warm enough when it arrived, so maybe it was just an issue with the kitchen. No apologies from anyone. Either way it was not the best experience, and I probably won't be back. Too many great restaurants elsewhere."

  • "Our server was very friendly, but overall the service was slow. I was also surprised when we were seated in front of a large table with a toddler and a baby since I was not expecting to see families with young children dining at the restaurant. The baby cried on and off throughout dinner, and because it was cold and snowing outside, the parents stayed in the restaurant while attempting to soothe their child. I have a four year old nephew and a lot of sympathy for parents, but I have to be honest in saying that having a baby cry at the table next to me detracted from my overall experience at The Kitchen."

  • "All I knew of this place was that it used farm-fresh ingredients, which is what drew me to it. I assumed it would be typical farm food, but it was Italian ha. So that was a surprise. It was good though. My wife's lamb was cold. They cook it a little in advance to let it rest since it is cooked rare, but they didn't warm it up again very well. I called the waiter and told him and he graciously apologized. Then someone who was the owner or manager came and apologized as well and then they brought it back out and it was fine!"

  • "One of the best dinners I've had in a long time. My mother's ramp risotto w/ spring vegetables was both beautiful and delicious. My dad's Koberstein farm steak was as expected--excellent. And my swordfish special was top notch. Not to mention the cauliflower gratin and desserts. To those who don't drink alcohol, the Tiki Soda is an outstanding accompaniment to a meal here. Also, the service from Dan and the rest of the staff is simply top tier, nothing is missed throughout the entire meal. "The Kitchen" should really be proud of the staff they have assembled. I cannot wait to return."

  • "The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We showed up about 45 minutes early for our reservation. So we went upstairs to the bar and within 10 minutes got a call telling us our table was ready. They brought our drinks down stairs for us and from there on out, the service was perfect. They bother you in the middle of your meal, but fill your water and refresh your drinks. The portions of food is great. Just enough to feel full but not so much to be bloated and gross. Everything was delicious and wonderfully presented. Overall, beautiful night. But be ready for a lively crowd, it get a bit noisy."

  • "We started at the bar before dinner. Michael suggested the best drinks. He even shared the recipe with us. That set the tone for a really fabulous night. The food was amazing and service was top rate. I saw lots of small tables but there was a large group of about 10-12 people. The restaurant handled all the different groups with no problem. Definitely recommend the Kitchen and make sure you make a reservation!"

  • "Love this place! It wasn't my first time to The Kitchen and it won't be my last. The food is innovative, unpretentious, and delicious. The wine list is creative - there wasn't one thing on it that I recognized and our server was able to describe, accurately, the wines I asked about. From our charcuterie plate through the apple cobbler dessert (which is quite possibly the best apple cobbler I've ever eaten) this meal was 5 star."

  • "Our group of four went with the Taste of The Kitchen menu and each course was excellent. The service was very good, attentive, but not stuffy. We had an assigned waiter, of course, but others pitched in to serve food, take away dishes or bring silverware for the next course. My wife and I and the other couple have been going out each month for the last year and a half and we all thought our dinner at The Kitchen was one of the best yet."

  • "We've enjoyed the Kitchen many times but this our best meal there in years. Thanks for sending the 10 year anniversary coupon and my birthday dessert coupon ... such a nice touch and much appreciated. The service was also perfect, as always. Great job!"

  • "Frankly sometimes the idea of "sourced" food can go a little too far, like telling the diner that the diver scallops were caught by "Steve" somebody. It actually reminded me a bit of watching Portlandia and bordered on the absurd. I guess when you can tell everyone where the food came from it entitles you to raise the prices to ridiculous levels. The food was OK, the pasta Bolognese was nothing exceptional and my "lamb sirloin" was thin slices of rare lamb that were very tough and not especially flavorful. Our server described the lamb as being "not piping hot like a steak" but "warmed through" however my lamb was cold. The sticky toffee pudding was quite good."

  • "For inventive dishes, perfect execution, and marvelous flavors, The Kitchen is among the best places I've eaten in Boulder and Denver. It's noisy and crowded, but I do go for atmosphere."

  • "Our waiter was well-informed, helpful, attentive and made excellent suggestions. Great food and ambiance too. Highly recommend."

  • "We love this place & eat here at least 2-3 times whenever biz takes us to Boulder. We also eat @ Kitchen Next Door, Kitchen Upstairs. & the one in Denver as well. The food has gotten very salty for some reason, which we don't like & menu needs a bit more inventiveness, as one visit seems like any other."

  • "My wife and I have dined at The Kitchen four times and we've always found the food and ambiance excellent. We started with tomato bisque which was rich and delicious. For entrées, my wife had duck cassoulet and I had bolognese; both were excellent and we'd order them again without hesitation. The service was okay, but it was a busy night. My only problem with The Kitchen is their philosophy on wine prices. The wines start at about $60.00 and go up dramatically from there. I don't think a customer should have to pay twice as much for wine as he/she does for an entrée. I urge management to put at least a few less expensive bottles on their wine list. We settled for a couple glasses instead of a bottle, as did many of the people around us."

  • "We went for my wife's birthday and had a wonderful time ... BUT I must say I will avoid going back (except for Happy Hour) as the wine prices are WAY too high compared to other extremely good restaurant options we have in Boulder."

  • "Great place for adults/older kids. Energetic feel and fab food…would recommend"

  • "We heard about The Kitchen from a friend and decided to try it out for our anniversary dinner. I absolutely love that you know where all the food comes from. The server was very knowledgable and helped us make our selections. Great atmosphere and great experience all around. Will definitely go again for a special night out."

  • "I've never been disappointed at the Kitchen, Boulder, or at the Kitchen, Upstairs. I was really pleased when they changed their policy to accept reservations for parties under six."

  • "Food ranged from very good to great (temp issues aside). Service was knowledgeable but lacking at times. Very pricey. Both service and kitchen missed a beat or two. Not that you would normally notice, but at these prices?"

  • "Overall I enjoyed my meal at Kitchen however, what is it with restaurants these days serving nothing with a main course? I had the fish special of the day that came with a minute amount of vegetables and a few cubed potatoes. Realy for $34 you might expect sometthing resembling a decent amount of a starch and vegetable."

  • "If I was rich I'd eat here every week, the food is great, the philosophy of the place is great, the service is superb. Pricey, but unlike many places, you actually get what you pay for."

  • "MIchelin doesn''t rate restaurants in Boulder but The Kitchen deserves a star. The setting is plain but the food and service are extraordinary. On a recent visit my companion and I split a porterhouse steak and she said it was the best steak she'd ever had. They also had an amazing gouda cheese and dipping their rustic bread into their tomato soup was incredible. The server was very helpful in deciding what to order. I have eaten there numerous times over the years and have never gotten bad food or service."

  • "Huge fun of small restaurants and this is a prime example why. Food is beyond incredible, you can tell the amount of effort that gets puts in. Tables were a tad tight, but was not a huge deal."

  • "This is a classic Boulder gem! The food and service are both fantastic. New American cooking at it's best. This isn't a cheap place, but I always come back. The food is amazing!"

We have been her before and would highly recommend this restaurant! Food is amazing and the service is outstanding. It is very popular so would recommend making a reservation in advance."
