Diner Reviews
  • "The food was good as usual, but our server was great at recommending beverage pairings."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "Square one consistently serves great food and drinks/beer. The service is just as good.. Their Sunday Brunch is the best! Would recommend any item on the menu, as I have tried most all of them. Bartender makes a killer Bloody Mary. And, being a micro brewery, they have some of the best beer, bar none."

  • "The menu looked great, but we were disappointed. Overcooked meat and veggies, and underwhelming sandwiches. Great drinks and dessert. If their food gets to the level of their beer it will be a perfect place!"
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Server must have been new because we waited forever for food. When the food arrived, it was wrong. She tried to convince me that what I ordered was correct when it was clearly written different on the menu. Father's Day was not exactly enjoyable!"
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "Service issues and lack of preparedness for Father's Day. Ran out of Scotch eggs ( which we waited on for 15 min. before being told), pancake batter, cinnamon rolls. Food was good but I would not go on a holiday brunch again."

  • "I ate dinner here several years ago but hadn't been here to eat since. My girlfriend and I came to Square One a couple weeks back to have some beers and sit on the patio. The patio is awesome. We said we had to come back to try the food because the menu looked awesome. We decided to come here with some family that was visiting, again sat on the patio but this time in the covered area due to rain. Still a great patio even when covered. We ordered some apps, salads and soups to have before our meal. The service was EXTREMELY slow. Our apps didn't come out for quite some time. When it (the goat cheese spinach dip) finally did, it was cold. We asked to have it reheated. Once we got past that, dinner was fantastic, food was delicious."

  • "Excellent outdoor! Inside seating is very average, which offsets the average score."

  • "The food, drinks/beer & service is consistently outstanding! A regular Sunday brunch place for us. But it is good anytime."

  • "Five of us went to the Square One Brewery for dinner based upon a friend's recommendation. Had made reservations, wanted to sit out on the patio but they don't reserve the patio...so we ate inside. Interesting interior, Plexiglas inset to the floor so we could see through to the distillery! Sat near the large fermentation tanks for the beer. Several of us tried the beers, and they were really great flavorful micro-brews. A few of us tried spirits and these were also excellent. Best part of the evening was the food, great chef must be there because we all thought the food was to die for! The only downside was the waitress who seemed a little overly busy. If you go sit in the outside patio it is beautiful with a lovely fountain."

  • "Dinner salad portion confused me as a side salad portion. Vegetable soup is canned veggies, not fresh. One person's of meatloaf came out cold. Another person's salad was scraped (w/ remaining items) they asked for w/o on their salad"

  • "This was just my second visit to Square One and first for dinner. Arrived shortly before 9 on a holiday weekend and had a short wait at the very cool bar, with very good craft beer descriptions from the bartender. Food service was very good for how busy they were and food quality was superb (fried grouper and Cuban pulled pork) Will come back with more friends next visit. "

  • "We needed a place to relax and enjoy a delicious meal on Monday night. My husband had the Cuban pulled pork with the recommended IPA beer and I had Cassoulet with the Light Squared ale. White beans and roasted vegetables simmered in a rich broth then finished with Gruyere cheese and tasted corn bread crumbs. The brussel sprouts were especially good. Although the Cubs were giving the Cardinals a bad time downtown, we had a great time at Square One."

  • "Awesome wait staff! Excellent food. A favorite restaurant!"

  • "Square One is a microbrewery with great beers but they have so much more. The food is delicious, and their own distillery makes great liquors. The patio seating is ideal. "
    Dined on 4/19/2014
  • "The service was very slow, just over an hour for a brunch order during which time we had to flag our waitress down for water refills and drink orders. The ambiance is great, but not worth the wait. This has been true of past visits, but this won the award for longest wait for an order .the waitress was great at passing our table without making eye contact"

  • "Have eaten there 3-times in the last month, very good food, love the menu variety, a bit tardy though on initial service after being seated and just a tad noisy for some, though it doesn't bother us. Great choice for access to downtown sports and entertainment venues."

  • "First time visiting St Louis. This was one of the best restaurants we visited. Food options are diverse and well prepared, and a very good bang for the buck. Beer and liquor, as you would expect, are terrific. Nice overall space with plenty of ambience and charm."

  • "Square 1 has an exquisite menu with good choices for anyone; whether you are on a diet, or you have a picky appetite, Square 1 has you covered. The staff is also very nice as well. :-) I will be back again for another visit!"

  • "We had a great meal with some delicious beers and lemon vodka. The absolute best dish of the night was the Stout Brownie. We ordered it for the table to share and wished we had ordered more! Even my brother, who does not like sweets, couldn't stop eating it. The pub chips and onion dip was delicious. The chicken dish with the mashed potatoes was devine and the corned beef in the Rueben sandwich was awesome. Overall good food, great drinks, and amazing dessert. The only drawback is how noisy the restaurant is."

  • "Great beer, great pretzels! Loved nearly all the food - mushroom ravioli, pot roast, fish and chips, pretzel brat, duck breast. Side of cheese grits just ok, Lots of fun!"

  • "Food was ok... Dessert was awesome, beer was good."

  • "We used to frequent Square One for brunch often and I remember it being a lot better. The beer is still good but the food has taken a dive. Most of our food came out cold, but that was probably the waiters fault, but even the cold food wasn't good. Our french fries were hard and tough to eat. The bread on the chicken salad sandwich just fell apart. I used to get it all of the time and I'm pretty sure it used to come on a bun. The two slices of mediocre wheat bread that we're lightly toasted just didn't hold up to the chicken salad. Also, the chicken salad was just a mayo based sauce and chunks of chicken. I couldn't see or taste anything else in there. That was just what I ate and the rest of our party felt the same way about their food."
    Dined on 3/9/2014
  • "Service is great. I have been there 6 times and the great service is consistent. Beers and liquor are brewed on premise and are great. Highly recommend!!!"

  • "Square One Brewery is one of the best restaurants I've been to in a long time, and it mostly has to do with the awesome server, whose name has eluded me for the moment, and the wonderful drinks. The food is quite good as well, but when coming to Square One, the alchohol is what you get, as they create it in-house. Personally, I am a huge fan of wheat vodkas, and theirs was definitely quite good. The only negative thing to note was the noise level, but that is to be expected on Mardi Gras night in a local bar."

  • "My girl friends and I go out once a month. Since we have varying tastes we get to try lots of places. I was pretty happy with my cocktail and the bratwurst burger but not very happy that I had made an early reservation (5:30) and with a basically empty restaurant we were crammed into the corner next to one of the few occupied table- do they fill from back to front?? The other dissappointment was is in the side items. I had the chips; my friends had fries- neither were good. Since we drove from 45 minutes away it will probably be my only visit to Square One."

  • "Excellent Sunday Brunch - good atmosphere, but not too loud, great food and of course wonderful beer."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "Many microbrews in STL serve only small plates/appetizers if they serve food at all. Square One excels at both. Beer is excellent, menu is diverse and they know what they're doing. I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered here."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "We had a great, romantic Valentine's experience. The menu was affordable and every menu item had a beer selection."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "I love this place. Every time is amazing. Try the Bavarien Weizen Chicken and the Pot Roast, they are two of the best dishes at a restaurant that I have had in a long time. The beer selection is nice and extensive for any palate and the staff is always so attentive and knowledgeable. It's just a wonderful place."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "I can't even review the food because after an hour we didn't have our food. The waitress hid from us instead of communicating what was going on. We were then late and starving for our event afterward. Things happen I understand, but it's all in how you handle it. The manager didn't seem to care. We left without eating."
    Dined on 2/8/2014
  • "Good food. Great service. We had a group of six with a seven o'clock reservation. We were not seated until 730. This was not a problem because of the bar, but we were reaching out threshold on waiting ( since we had a reservation). Overall great experience and we will return."

  • "If your into the craft scene it is a must go to for not only the Craft Beers but also the craft spirits. Steve and staff have come along way in perfecting their craft. Staff is always friendly and they have a great food selection as well."

  • "The mushroom ravioli was one of the best dishes I've had in my life. My wife and a friend had the lamb which they both found to be excellent. I had the IPA which was very tasty. We'll be back."

  • "Beer was really good. Someone else in our party got the drink/food pairing prix fixe menu and he liked it. Actually, he didn't like the dessert with a smokey sauce. I didn't like the smokey flavor of my cheese steak. Overall, it was good, they should just use less liquid smoke."

  • "There with a large group the grew well past our reservation size, but they were accommodating and never hesitated. We had a wonderful server, Brandi, who was attentive, but not hovering. She kept our vropu on 11 happy with food and drink. We had everything from Scotch eggs to hot wings...all were hot and tasty. Nachos were unique and very filling. Ithers at tge tavke loved the pot roast. My favorite was the fish and chips. The night we were there it was a bit noisy, so I felt like we had to yell a bit for those at the other end of our table to hear us. Still, I plan to make this a regular spot."
