  • "Spruce graciously accommodated our party of 7 plus stroller. All the food was delicious as expected but nothing stood out as exceptional. The description for each dish has the flavor mix they are trying to achieve but none ever achieved that mix due to small amounts of the flavors. Ex: the turnip soup had olive tapenade and another flavor included but these were small drops in the bottom of the bowl and once the soup was poured those flavors were never noted in the soup. Everything had lovely presentation and portions are reasonable as higher priced restaurants go. Our concern was the noise level on Thursday night was extremely high, we had difficulty having discussion across the table. You are allowed to bring your own wine with fee."

The salmon although good required the dinner remove the skin; should have been crisp and the thick sections underdone. The halibut was ...unmemorable. It was bland. The beet salad was unremarkable and a challenge to understand...mixed flavors. Nice restaurant, great service, so so food. Last visit 2 years ago great."

  • "For this price range and for all of the other great reviews I had high expectations. The ambience is very nice, though it attracts an older crowd (30-40). The food was the real disappointment. Nothing was great nor memorable. I have spent the same amount at many other restaurants in Hayes and had much better experiences. I would recommend staying away unless you are desperate for a somewhat impressive first date or interested in meeting older singles at their bar."

  • "I went for dine about town lunch. Some items were intriguing like stone fruit gazpacho. Execution on the rib eye and halibut was perfect. I appreciate that the chef came to get feedback on the gazpacho. Desert was a cookie with cream. It was very good but I think a prix fix menu deserves a bit more complexity."

  • "This is the place to go if you want super good service and good food, and that basic feeling that you're special. We have eaten here before, but this time it was our Wedding Anniversary. They gave us a romantic slightly private table, had a card wishing us a Happy Anniversary on the table when we arrived, and apart from the usual wonderful service and food, when it came to dessert, we were also presented with an extra dessert with Happy Anniversary in chocolate writing, yes we felt pretty special, we also had a guest with us, and they were pretty impressed too."

  • "We went to Spruce for an anniversary..and because we wanted to start with cocktails we sat at a comfortable table in the bar area. We had an early reservation which helped with the noise level..by the time we left it was quite busy and loud..we had access to both menus..the bar menu and the main menu which was perfect as we shared four different dishes..the mussels from Prince Edward Island were great as well as the Caesar salad. We followed those with steak tartar and a reginette made with an avocado sauce..quite delicious.. The wine list is extravagant..Alexandria our server was quite attentive... Would definitely return!"

  • "We had a 9PM reservation on Saturday night. Three of us - me, my wife and my sister who was visiting from out of town. Throughout the service was impeccable - even while we had to wait a bit for our table, the hosts were attentive and offered an alternate table in the bar if we were in a hurry. Spent a non-rushed 2.5 hours at dinner - great service from the staff especially from Melissa who kept bringing us little extras as we waited for our shared ribeye which was one of the best steaks I've had anywhere.   • "Having made a reservation a couple of weeks ahead, was disappointed to be offered an isolated small table just inside the door. Based on the opentable chatter, we took a table in the bar instead. Turns out, the food was really very good, so plenty to be happy about . . . but the service?!? I can't recall the last time I saw so many different faces. First a server introduced himself as ours for the evening, but if he stopped by another time other than to take our order, I must have missed it. Our entreesfinished we wondered about desert - and wondered and wondered until I got up to wander and find someone to ask! Too late, a server reappeared and tried to make amends (cookies). Perhaps we just forgot to remove our invisibility cloaks?"

The managers explanation was that they found that most people want to get in and out for brunch as quickly a possible. Even though we explained to the servers that we wanted to enjoy the experience. He then said that we would. Ever rush anyone on e they were seated. I think there was something else going on here, but I won't mention that here. Again not a god a experience. "

  • "What a fantastic dinner in an even more fantastic setting. The neighborhood in Pacific Heights is charming and quiet in the evening. The valet is a nice touch as well. I was disappointed that the host was very pretentious and gave our table away to the couple who came in behind us. I will return every time for the food and wine but when it comes to quality of service Spruce is not as top notch as they would like you to believe. "
