Diner Reviews
  • "The location spectacular, but in need of being remodeled. Food was good, but not fantastic. Service was excellent."

  • "Just steps away from the beach and all of the summer beach activities and energy, Spark Woodfire Grill is an oasis where you can enjoy a very tasty meal with friends. Great food, good drinks and friendly staff."

  • "Nice evening on the patio! Generous wine pours! The flatbreads are great for a light dinner."

  • "I was hoping for a better cuisine experience. The food was fair, but was at least moderately priced. The terrace seating was like a wind tunnel that made dining outside uncomfortable for me and my kids."

  • "Go here regularly. Love the Spark Flower Martini, the Lemoncelo Bubbly and the calamari. Friend and I come here for these three items. I must say that the calamari was just OK this time and the martini glasses changed and are smaller. I hope this is just a summer tourist change and you'll go back to awesomeness we enjoy."

  • "Our basic assessment of Spark is that if you like pepper, its a great place. If you don't, stay away. Nearly every dish had some type of pepper in or on it. I like spicy food so it was fine for me, but my teenage daughter and wife had a hard time finding things to eat. I ended up eating my wife's pasta with jalapeno pesto because it was too hot. We asked the waitress before ordering if it was spicy and she said "not too." After we changed plates, the waitress noted that she liked spicy food so her assessment might be different than others. It would have been nice to have known that before ordering. My son and a friend share 3 appetizers and really enjoyed them and the meat and cheese plate was fun and good. So fair, but not great"

  • "Still one of the best in downtown Huntington Beach on PCH."

  • "We were seated inside with a great view since it was chilly out. Our server, Cathy K, was excellent- she knew the menu and answered questions and made suggestions and we were not disappointed."

  • "We REALLY like this place. We went because it is on Opentable and sounded very good, We had no idea the view was so spectacular and were glad we were there in time to see the sun set, but even more we were so pleased at how GOOD the food was.We had the seafood pasta and halibut and a Caesar salad and a bottle of Riesling. We sat on the window line next to the fireplace and throughly enjoyed ourselves. Highly recommended!"

  • "We've lived in the area for 3 years and never really noticed the restaurant because it is on the second floor. Friends from out of town came in and we wanted them to have a scenic view. Spark was recommended and didn't disappoint. The views of the Pacific are perfect especially at sunset. The Herb Crusted steak was phenomenal and the wait staff were excellent. Will be making this a regular spot."

  • "I was looking for a place near the HB pier to take my wife for her birthday. It was a nice evening and we ate on the patio, with a good view of the beach activity around the pier. We were watching our budget so the moderate pricing was appealing for a beachfront restaurant. Generally it was good. I suspect one way they keep the price down is that some of the serving sizes were a bit on the smallish size. We had to ask for bread. Also, there is an adjacent parking structure for which Spark will validate. We parked at the City structure a couple blocks away and the validation does not work there; I did have the parking stub validated anyway and got a discount of $1 (parking was only $4). Menu is a bit limited but good; check online."

  • "I had not been here in a few years and was extremely disappointed in the food, one person had the pesto pasta with lobster, pesto was to strong and a strange seasoning on the lobster. I was not in the mood for fish and and was going to have one of the specials, prime rib however they were out so I had the next special which was a rib eye, the steak was over cocked and grey in color, the steak was under a 1/2" thick. I do not normally right bad reviews but felt I need to this time. Will never return"

  • "Spark was a nice addition to the restaurants I have visited in Huntington Beach. Most restaurants lack a creative menu and Spark has a very nice array of choices. For a dinner with friends with lively conversation, this is a great place. There is also a cozy fire at the front of the restaurant, a nice place to warm up if the evening is cool. I would recommend trying this restaurant."

  • "Great night at Spark. Food excellent and service good. Even though a little busy, they were able to keep up. Generous pours on our glasses of wine which was also nice."

  • "The 4 sisters meet for Lunch or Brunch quarterly. First time here for brunch. We sat on the patio near the live music, only table available, not to bad but hard to hear conversation. Service was great, food was ample and very tasty with a lot to choose from and my glass of bubbles stayed pretty full all afternoon. The Eggs Benedict was a favorite as was the Ahi appetizers and Pancake lasagna(great idea). We enjoyed the whole experience and will most certainly do a return engagement. As for the setting, roof top like, open and with the Pacific Ocean and the Huntington Beach Pier in full view. The weather was superb! Sunshine, puffy clouds and an awesome on shore breeze. A perfect day..... "

  • "Food was all around outstanding and the view the best in HB. The cod minus the herbed crusting was excellent for the gluten-free diner. Definitely plan to return again soon."

  • "Went to this restaurant day after mothers day to treat my mom and my much younger sisters to a nice dinner to catch up on life. Wonderful view of the Huntington Beach Pier & Ocean. I recommend sitting out side next to the largr eclear glass windows. I can't say much for the entrees as we ordered all appetizers, but the Seared Ahi Tuna was delicious and always a favorite of mine. Fried calamari not bad. As well as the chicken wings. I am definitely going back to try out, the main course meals and explore this restaurant's menu a bit more. Cheers!"

  • "Having lived in HB for a number of years, this was first time eating here. Not a large space, but great views of the ocean. Our server was Robert and he was excellent, in service and honest recommendations; very attentive. Pace of service was good. A little pricey, however, right in line with other good resaurants in the area. Quality and quantity of food was very good. Really good grilled artichoke appitiser. Dined with out of town friend and it was a hit. Will definately return. "

  • "The applewood smoked prime rib with crisp green beans was excellent. Very good view of the ocean from the deck. Decent craft beer selection."

  • "They ran out of the prime rib by 6:30 p.m. seemed a little odd. However the lobster & shrimp linguine was great. My wife enjoyed her steak. We enjoy this restaurant and have been coming there ever since it has opened."

  • "Good experience but not accommodating regarding seating. Outdoor seating was too cold unless you were under a heater and they declined our request to be seated under one."
    Dined on 4/15/2014
  • "We actually ended up leaving after we finished our appetizers. Server didn't visit our table. The food was okay, but definitely not worth staying for the rest of the meal."

  • "This was my first time in this restaurant and, unfortunately, I think it was the first time for the server too! Seemed like a nice guy, but to say that he was uninformed about the menu (or even being a server) is an understatement. I was very surprised that a restaurant like this would send a server out without ANY basic knowledge of the menu or training on simple service steps. The guy had absolutely no clue how to answer any of our basic questions and acted like a deer in the headlights when asked. It was very strange. - The food, however, was good. But, the service really put a damper on the whole experience. We left without ordering dessert because we had enough. I don't blame the server here, this seems to be a management issue. "

  • "We have spent most of our special occasions at Spark for the past 3-4 years. This was our anniversary visit and once again the food and device were over the top. Highly recommend the steaks and the martinis. Can't beat sitting on the outdoor balcony and looking at the beach and pier. Had such a great dinner we booked Easter Sunday Brunch before we left."

  • "Pros Good food and service. Accomodating to requests. Cons - table was too close to the fire pit, portions were good but price was too high for the amount of food. Good experience."

  • "Great dining experience on the outdoor patio with a great view Main Street at the beginning of the peer. Cathy was a great server...friendly and attentive."

  • "I'd walked by this place dozens of times; always wanting to try it but never quite making it in. Went during restaurant week, and glad I finally did. Food was fantastic, and everything cam out quickly. Service was attentive, but unobtrusive. Ambiance was great. While I was there for dinner, I imagine the views make for a great lunch spot. They have an outdoor dining area that overlooks the Huntington Beach pier. As for the food itself, I had the garlic shrimp appetizer, followed by the short ribs with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans sautéed in shallots. Both were excellent. Ended with the bread pudding for dessert; a little dry for my taste; I prefer a more custardy texture, but still delish."

  • "To be fair I have only eating once and wasn't that impressed. Not enough good meat / steak selection. Service was very good and the view was very nice (we sat on the patio facing PCH. We live local and the wife and I said we would go again and set in the same area and perhaps order a few apps and drinks! Thank you,"

  • "It is a small place but you don't feel trapped. Nice ambiance . Menu is small. Portions are of normal size. Not huge. If you want huge portions this is not the place to go. Quiet enough to talk one on one, but great for a bigger group."
    Dined on 2/1/2014
  • "It seems that, like most restaurants that try to make a go of it at the HB pier, the food quality continues to decline. It's unfortunate because there are so few good restaurants remaining. Dukes seems to do well but the others just seem to slip further and further down. I ordered the pork chop cooked medium - the price was around $23 - $25 without a salad. What I got was a small, tough piece of meat that was way over cooked. The restaurant wasn't busy. The service was prompt - but I get tired of having to return food at a place that charges $25 for a pork chop and $10 for a lettuce wedge salad."

  • "The rub on my pork chop was a little too salty for my taste. Overall, the food was good. Server however was a little slow. Entrees were a little cold when they come out."

  • "We live in Huntington Beach and have dinner at Sparks about once a month. The location is terrific, on the corner of Main Street and Pacific Coast Highway. From the restaurant's indoor/outdoor balcony, you have a stunning view ocean view. There are overhead heaters on the balcony, so you can dine outside almost 365-days a year! The food is reliably good and the service is always exceptional. The restaurant has a back room often used for larger private parties. Noise level is never bad. I'd recommend the restaurant for a romantic sunset snack (wine and appetizers on the balcony), or a complete dinner. It's great for lunch too!"
