Sotto Sopra specializes in true contemporary Italian cuisine adapting farm to table. We buy local whenever it is possible. Osso bucco fell off the bone and paired with excellent risotto. Knowledgable waitress who suggested perfect wines. Sachetti was very pumpkin-y and sauce was perfect."

  • "Returned to Sotto Sopra for my birthday (as it's a little pricey to be a regular stop) and it was excellent a second time. The wait staff are, without exception, the best in town: attentive, but not overly attentive & willing to make great suggestions if you ask. The new Octopus Salad app is the best octopus ever I've had (and I've tried it multiple times at other high end establishments). The recommended Pork Ossobuco was good & the Sacchetti do Zucca was phenomenal! (Home made pasta). Sotto Sopra will remain a special occasion spot for us!"

  • "My boyfriend took me here for my birthday, which was luckily at the end of restaurant week. The restaurant itself is beautiful with large mirrors and interesting paintings around; each table was lit with a candle. It's a little bit cramped as we were about 1 foot away from the next table on both sides and could easily hear their conversations. We had a reservation at 7:30 PM and we didn't get out until 9:45 PM. Most of the time was spent waiting for our food -- our waiter was missing for most of the time although the tables around us (with a different waiter!) came in after us and left before us. The food was too sweet and we spent too much time waiting for me to ever go again!"

  • "We went for a RW - our first visit. FOOD: bread - cold, not appealing; appetizers - just OK, entrees - great tasting and interesting, dessert - good, cheese - not. AMBIANCE: nice, but quite noisy, hard to converse, very tight sitting arrangement. SERVICE: "playing nice and entertaining", but attentive. Examples: hostess made us wait (having 8 tables ready) and only sit us down after seeing that we are not interested in her bar suggestion; water confused few things, assured us we can substitute one dessert for one cheese (the cost is the same), but AFTER we've finished the cheese announced that he can't do it and charged $8 more not even offering to serve another dessert that should be included. Not professional at all. Mixed impression."

Somehow they managed to make thin veal tough - but at least the manager told us not to try again because it would be the same. The second meal - ossobuco - was AWESOME. They have a very good wine list for various tastes and wallets. Was a little crowded and a little loud - most likely because it is restaurant week. Overall a nice experience."

  • "Went during restaurant week so place was packed. We were seated on time but hostess forgot to let our server know we were there so a bit of a wait. When things were straightened out our server brought us a glass of wine on the house and from then on the service was GREAT. Food was fantastic. Not a place to bring the kids. Highly recommend."

  • "We have been wanting to try Sotta Sopra for some time now, as we are new to the Baltimore area and have heard good things about it. We wanted to try a new place for Baltimore Restaurant week, and perused more than a dozen menus before selecting Sotto Sopra. We chose them because of their reputation, their convenience to our home, and most importantly because they were only serving the Restaurant Week menu. We were very pleased with our food, and the service was excellent. Due to the nature of the room, the noise level is quite high. It would not be a place for a romantic evening. However, we do plan to go back there, as we found our meals, drinks and service to be well above average."

  • "I reserved a table for 3 from my home in Wisconsin for the evening my daughter and her friend moved to Baltimore. I did not know this was restaurant week and was very glad I had reserved in plenty of time. The food, the service, the pacing, and the energy were all outstanding. We had branzino, cioppino and salmon as our entrees and we can't wait to come back during a regular night to try their usual presentation, as all 3 meals were outstanding. Gelatto, chocolate cake and creme brulee were all excellent. Our server was very busy but found moments to converse with us and other diners. He knew the menu and answered our questions fully. I am looking forward to a future visit."

  • "Sotto Sopra is my favorite restaurant. I could eat there every day. We recently went for dinner during restaurant week and were also celebrating my birthday. There was a birthday card for me at the table signed by Ricardo. Had three courses: Cured Salmon Tartare, Spaghetti Neri alla Chitarra con Gamberi, and Vanilla Creme Brulee. Everything was excellent. The creme brulee is always my favorite. I will have to restrain myself from visiting every day."

  • "It has been years since I've eaten at SS and for the life of me don't know why I waited to return. After a fabulous RW dinner last night, it will now be in my regular rotation. My experience with RW dinners is that there's usually a hiccup in service, food, or wait time. None of the above here. We picked SS because of it's fine reputation and very appealing RW menu. From the moment we arrived at the bar, the service was friendly and responsive. Recommendations were spot on. Highly recommend the mussels, salmon and cheesecake. My companions loved their choices, too. I was particularly impressed with the old school service. Refolding diner's napkins - so nice. The space is a bit loud, but great ambiance. A wonderful evening!"

  • "I was there during restaurant week. I understand that the regular menu is better. The fried polenta was extremely undistinguished. The eggplant in the sauce for the fish was undercooked. The Marcapone cheesecake was a stand out. It was light with fruit and sorbet that worked extremely well. The restaurant decor and ambience is outstanding. I'm going to try again."

It's inventive, delicious, and diverse - meaning I have more than three options to choose from for each course (thumbs way up for that!). Our server Sean was a delight; friendly, full of great suggestions, and not at all overbearing. Give the kid a raise, he was great. The only real complaint I have with SS is the lack of affordable wine options. I'm sorry, the least expensive choice should not be clocking in at around $40 (most are WAY more than that). Take note of other good restaurants in the area that offer affordable options at or under the 30 dollar mark. Or, at the very least, give you more options by the glass."

  • "my husband and i celebrated my birthday at sotto sopra during restaurant week. we have been to the restaurant before and it is one of our favorites in the city. sometimes the food and/or service at restaurants can suffer during restaurant week due to the increased volume of guests, but this was definitely not the case at sotto sopra. the food was delicious (as usual) and the staff was amazing! from the hostesses who made sure that we had a roomy table (i am 9 months pregnant), to our awesome and attentive waiter, scott, to the runners and busers, the service was friendly and quick, but we never felt rushed. every time we eat there we say it was the best meal yet! highly recommend."

Coming from NYC, which is a foodie city, I looked at many places and have visited a lot to have a good dinner, and Sotto Sopra, by far, has won me over. The quality of the food was great, and what made our night even better was the great service! Our server Alex was friendly, knowledgable and personable. Not only was he polite, he shared with us his wealth of knowledge in Italian cuisine. I ordered the squid ink pasta and it was so delicious! Highly recommended!"
