  • "I went here with my husband on our honeymoon. The staff was very attentive and helpful. The steak was delicious and the wine and cocktails were equally as good. The ambience is very romantic. If you can sit right by the pond, it adds to the evening. Despite not being able to see the ocean or the sunset directly, the views are still very beautiful. Swans in the pond swim right up to you."

  • "We had a great dinner. Attentive service, good indications from server, top quality food, especially as to the fish. Quite pricey and desserts have exorbitant costs. But if you are ready to pay for that, well it is worth a visit."

  • "My husband and I decided to treat ourselves to a nice dinner while staying at the Hyatt Regency in Maui. We chose Son'z because it was conveniently located in our hotel. Our experience was not what we were hoping for. The waiter and staff were very friendly and attentive. The food however was just ehh. I ordered a 7oz filet mignon that is priced at $39 and am not entirely sure I got a filet. Instead of being a nice round cut of meat, I got a steak shaped like a T-bone without the bone. I did ask for it well done, however it was very dry and slightly burnt. My husband and I will probably not return to Son'z and would not recommend it."

  • "The food was okay. Service was strange. Two waiters seemed a bit confused as to who was waiting on the table. The bus boy was more attentive than the waiters. Beautiful resort spot, though."

  • "The place is a wannabe romantic oasis but falls short for two main reasons: 1) there is some sort of foul odor, most likely having to so with the ocean or waterfall, and 2) the food is overseasoned, and not hot! My potato had so much stuff in it that it was too much, and the steak was just not hot..."

  • "We stayed at the Hyatt Regency at Ka'anapali but made sure to eat elsewhere as well as the restaurants there are all expensive. However, we saved Son'z for last and were so glad we did. Everything about it was wonderful! It is a gorgeous setting on a private swan lake with waterfall, Japanese bridge and lush foliage. The food was perfectly cooked, hot, beautiful and delicious. For a steak house, there were lots of other choices and this non=beef eater loved the special Opaka-paka dinner that came with the cannot miss sweet potato hash browns...and I don't usually eat hash browns either. My husband's pork chop was also first rate. Unfortunately, we didn't have room for dessert..except for Keoki coffee: yum!"

  • "Food was a disappointment. The steaks were overly salted and not cooked to tempture. Appetizer was the best thing we had. The quality has gone way down."

  • "Great dining experience! Filet, pork chops and fish were great. Also accepted a special request. Great place while visiting Maui."

  • "Potatoes Au Gratin was horrible, tasted premade & reheated, the manager did remove it from the bill.. I ordered the Filet Mignon cooked medium, it was more of a medium rare... Bf's Ribeye was ordered Medium Rare & that came out perfectly. The female manager that night wasn't the friendliest & we were dissapointed to find out that Sonz is not really a part of the Hyatt, so I guess their manager service standards are a little different. The bus boy was great, always making sure our plates were cleared & water was filled."

  • "I couldn't fit any more in my title, but I would like to add: LOUSY so-called "music." The biggest drawback to eating at SonZ was the "don't quit your day job" "singer" that really detracted from the meal. His rotten "crooning" was over-amplified and his talent was over-reduced! His "singing" made it almost impossible to recognize the songs he was wailing, and the volume level was really totally over the top! It permeated the whole room and I think it detracted from the taste of the food. I had a sirloin steak and my companion had rack of lamb. Although it was tasty enough and the portion was big enough, it wasn't anything particularly memorable. I don't think I'd visit here again, and the main reason I ate here was convenience."

  • "Wonderful atmosphere, great setting, good food and great service. We have stayed at the Hyatt Resort Maui many times, but this was the first time we had eaten dinner at Son'z Steakhouse. We were very pleased with the experience and will return on our next trip!"

  • "Swans and ducks swam right next to our table. Fantastic views of the pond, waterfalls, and restaurant. Fun jazzy music and nice waterfall sounds. Great food, drinks, and overall service. Especially liked the snapper dish and the mahi-mahi special! "

  • "This restaurant is located in the Hyatt in Maui. The setting is very nice with the restaurant opening to a pond with Swans. The ambiance is lovely. We received excellent service and food. A great place to celebrate a special event. A bit pricey as everything is ala carte. I will return to this restaurant again next time in Maui."

  • "We were there for Mothers Day. We thought it would be crowded, but it wasn't. So... even though it wasn't crowded we waited close to forty minutes for our food to come to our table. I think the wait staff was doing the best they could, but something was going on in the kitchen. Still the food was very good. Just be prepared for a wait. Or order an appetizer... that might work."

  • "Son'z has the potential to be amazing - IF they get their food squared away. I ordered the filet to be cooked medium, and it came back well done. Not only that, but the steak, in general, was only so-so. Next came the garlic mashed potatoes - which were completely absent of the garlic. Finally, I tried my wife's "Prime New York"steak, hoping I just had bad luck. Strike 3 there, as her steak tasted like it went from the freezer directly to the grill. We decided to skip dessert, mercifully ending the dining experience. Now, the view and atmosphere was AMAZING and really probably worth the sub-par food. But, if you're hoping for a great meal, either drastically temper your expectations or head to Japengo at the same resort. "

  • "The Service we received at Sonz was amazing. Everyone was very helpful and kind from the moment we walked in. On the other hand, the entrees we ordered were disappointing, specifically the snapper. It was very difficult for me to even finish the dish. The lemon sauce and sweet potato hash were awful. Otherwise, our calamari appetizer was great. The quality of the food was not noted during our experience, because we were overall satisfied with the waitstaff and ambience. I would not recommend this venue to others seeking out great food, though. "

  • "Had the seafood cake and the filet mignon with Bearnaise sauce. The seafood cake was fabulous and so was the sauce it sat on. The steak was just right but the Bearnaise was disappointing -- too much lemon and too little tarragon."

  • "Excellent location with ducks, swan, and flamingos swimming in the outdoor pond. Had a table next to the water. Excellent sunset as well. The restaurant is located in Hyatt Regency. Food was very good and the service staff was attentive and prompt. They met our every need. I had the 10 ounces fillet and it was cooked to perfection. It was tender and moist and not over cooked. The asparagus was cooked to perfection. Overall an excellent meal. Will come back our next visit to Maui."

  • "We had the best experience ever at Son'z Maui. The setting, the service, the food and the wines - All were a cut above! The greeting people, in particular, Iris was warm and friendly when we arrived. Don Abernathy, Director of Operations, made it a point to greet us and our guests. He visited with us about our wine selections and his knowledge was thorough and informative. He handled the wines with considerable expertise and his presentation made them all the more enjoyable. The chefs prep and presentation drew ooos and ahhhs from all our guests. The service staff was attentive and responsive. In every way this was a 5 Star experience for us. "

  • "Spent 9 days in Maui, obviously great food choices but didn't expect steak. One wouldn't think of steaks on an island, not good steaks. After a day traversing the island and seeing herds of cattle, decided to give it a shot while lounging at the pool. Open Table made reservations easy knew from the description it would be elegant. An understatement. On a par with the better steak restaurants like Bones in Atlanta. White tablecloths, four person staff to wait our table of five, a wine list to die for from French Bordeaux to Screaming Eagle to some nice Brunellos. We settled on a nice Turley Zin. Food was excellent. Escargot, Lamb, Steak, and Fish. And the view into the ocean is excellent. Best restaurant on the West Side of Maui."

  • "We have dined at Son'z a half dozen times on visits to Maui. Our experiences have generally been good. Our most recent dinner was a disappointment because of poor service. It was slow and inattentive. The "team" approach to waiting tables did not work since team members seemed disorganized. It's a lovely setting and the food was good but for the price better service is essential. The restaurant has also changed its menu to more of a chop house style. Not my favorite for Hawaii but that is a matter of personal taste. We had one of the few seafood offerings and it was very good."

  • "My husband and I had dined in this restaurant when we visited Maui in 1989 and had been so impressed then that we wanted to return on this trip. The name is new, but the restaurant still has the beautiful ambiance of the waterfall and the swans swimming very close to the dining tables. Delicious food and impressive wine list also! We very much enjoyed our return dining experience!"

  • "There were four of us and we all had the snapper special - portions were not too large, presentation was great and the combination of flavours were really good. Loved the ambience and recommend a table by the water. Service was very good although we did have to fill our own wine a couple of times. Would definitely return."

  • "trying hard to be a fancy restaurant, dress code said "smart casual". I don't think that a tank top, shorts and flip flops are "smart". The diners that were dressed like this should not have been seated."

  • "Although the setting is lovely, the food was less than impressive, and very, very overpriced. We spent over $150, for just dinner for two adults and two children - no appetizers, no desserts. Portions were small, and we are not even big eaters. It's okay to try once, but we won't go back."

  • "Our family visits Maui at least once a year. Sonz has become one of two favorite spots that my husband and I like to go to for our date night. View is nice of the swan pond and service is always impeccable. Top class. Food has always been delicious. Give it a try!!"

  • "We were never advised that the only option on New Years was a package that was $130 per person excluding alcohol or beverages. Obsurd given the food was not chilled that should have been (salad and carpaccio) and the main entree seemed thrown together and not very good!"

  • "One of my favorite places to go on Maui for years....the food is still great and so is the setting, BUT oh my goodness what, oh what have they done to the decor....It used to have an elegant Hawaiian feel to it, the ambience was outstanding....and someone made the horrible decision to turn it into an industrial looking cafeteria, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING....what once spoke of Hawaiian elegance has turned into nothing more than a cafeteria feel with a view. Even the carpet which once was elegant Hawaii as well has been turned into wood with airport looking carpet..... We all come to Maui for the Hawaiian feel the feel of different to what we're used to we.... can get cafeteria industrial feel stateside ANYTIME.... Please turn it back ! ! !"

  • "We had our Christmas dinner at Son'z, and it was one of the most memorable dinners I can remember. The setting, on Ka'anipali Beach, is beautiful, and this is the best restaurant in the area. The food is suburb, and the wait staff is very attentive. The wine list is very large, but accessible."

  • "The old Swan Court is gone for sure. Son'z is a poor cheap replacement. The Hyatt used to be the most elegant hotel in Kaanapali but it is not any more. I ordered the special which was prime rib and it came with 3 asparagus spears and piled high with greasy french fries. They did not have horseradish with it so I had to ask for it and it was not creamy horseradish. Come on, it was Christmas. Get your act together...."

  • "We went for Christmas dinner and the food was uniquely prepared and tasted great. Foodie heaven. Fish piccata is a signature dish and tasted great and the serving size was just enough. Filet mignon is great. Pasta with meatballs were truly unique but serving size is too large. They don't have a children's menu and my 11 year old just had pasta but they charged us for the meatballs. I complained and they gave us the dish for free. Not a big deal but scrutinize your bill just in case."

  • "We have been to Son'z several times over the last few years, and it's been terrific every time! Their fresh catch picatta is one of my all time favorite dinners on Maui. This time it was Opakapaka- wonderful! A unique and delicious blend of flavors. My husband enjoyed his potato scaled mahi as well. For dessert- a good, but nothing special, tiramisu. It always amazes me that this place is not busier. It's a beautiful setting on the swan court at the Hyatt on Kaanapali. The service and ambiance is perfect. They even have an in house photographer to take a nice photo of your party if you're interested. We'll keep coming back!"
