A.R. Valentien, the signature restaurant at the AAA Five Diamond resort The Lodge at Torrey Pines, features innovative California cuisine served in a breathtaking setting overlooking the Torrey Pines Golf Course and Pacific Ocean coastline. Executive Chef Kelli Crosson uses only the best local provisions, and the menu changes daily depending on what's offered at local farmers' markets, as well as from other local growers, ranchers and fishermen. The restaurant's wine list features California wines exclusively, including a variety of boutique wineries from throughout the state.

A.R. Valentien’s sophisticated design includes artwork from the restaurant’s namesake, Albert Robert Valentien, and a spacious outdoor terrace. Special events include the seasonal Artisan Table dinner series and Celebrate the Craft, an annual charity event benefiting The Ecology Center.

    I was trying out the revived AR Valentien to make a recommendation to my work for a Business Development function. I have to re-think my recommendation now. The poor waiter was over worked with no help from others like the bus boy and servers. For example, my water glass was NEVER refilled even though the waiter stopped by to ask how the dinner was. The salad, soup and wine were good. Coulotte Steak was cooked correctly [rare with nice char on the outside] but was tough in spots. Food & wine were good, not great. Service is way off from our previous AR V experiences. Also, with soups and salads it would be good to offer some bread rolls of some type or some toast to soak up the deliciousness. We had to ask for bread and the waiter did not ask if we wanted toasted. Overall, disappointed. AR V not up to previous standards that were achieved.

    The resort is absolutely stunning, and the restaurant is really great!! The service was world class and the food just as great. It was a bit "stodgy" and quiet for my taste, but hard to complain when everything was so wonderful.

    The views are spectacular, the service excellent and the food, simply delicious. I arrived for a late lunch and had the Grilled Coulotte Steak which was hearty enough to be a substantial meal without any appetizer or starter, but light enough to leave me wanting dessert. Dean's service was impecable..! Always attentive, every one is very attentive and the young men assisting Dean were very respectful. Finished off the afternoon with a Latte and Lavender Creme Brule..then a walk down to the golf course to admire the views. Definitely one of my favorite spots in San Diego.

    We had breakfast at AR Valentien and ate on the patio, one of the most lovely places in San Diego—a complete jewel. The service was very attentive. We all had coffee, which was delicious. I had the potato tart, which was oddly served warm, not hot. It was good in any case, but I would have preferred it hotter. My guests had the French toast, which was beautiful and delicious, and the Bull's Eye with eggplant and eggs. It was beautifully served and very good. The view from the patio encompasses the pool, Torrey Pines Golf Course and the ocean beyond. The setting and the exquisite architecture make The Lodge at Torrey Pines one of my favorite places on earth. Highly recommended.
