Named after La Jolla’s popular Open Aire Farmer’s Market, Bistro du Marché allows chef Diot to work closely with farmers to incorporate the finest local flavors into his dishes. Led by Cheffe Amélie Gadoum, Bistro du Marché incorporates quality ingredients and rigorous French technique. Signature dish includes Wild Mushroom Ravioli in Port wine Sauce. One of the specialties: Un Coq au Vin "Ivre de Bourgogne" Organic Chicken Braised in Red Wine Sauce, Yukon Gold Mashed Potato, Carrot, Mushrooms.

Bistro du Marché is based on the culinary concept of “bistronomie”, that emerged in Paris. Bistronomie, is a play on words on the concepts of “bistro” and “gastronomie”. It is a form of French cuisine that emphasizes the blending of haute gastronomic expertise, seasonality, and the traditional “cuisine de terroir” found in bistros across France. The youthfulness of the bistronomie movement has succeeded in reinvigorating French classic cuisine, and raised the bar of traditional French bistros.

    Perfect! We were looking for an evening of French cuisine and they delivered. We tried seven dishes. Everything was outstanding! We were also very impressed with the waitstaff. They all exhibited a high level of professionalism. Their pastry chef deserves high recognition as well. The restaurant is very worthy of their recent “Best French” award.

    Fantastic service and food. We celebrated our daughter’s 18th birthday and she enjoyed every minute. One complaint - please start using duck fat to fry your potatoes - peanut oil is not up to par with your restaurants reputation.

    Thank you for your kind comment for your stellar rating and for your advice. We sometimes cook what is called "Pommes de terre Sarladaise". It is a recipe from Sarlat in Dordogne, France. The recipe is calling for duck fat, and end with parsley, garlic all these in a pan. I agree on the fact that it is a wonderful recipe. The French fries recipe is completely different. Merci!!

    A great way to spend my birthday. Only negs we’re a little noisy (We couldn’t hear across the table sometimes.) and something must have happened in the kitchen because there was a looong wait for the entrees to arrive.

    Hello Teresa; Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay during your visit. As I am looking at the reservations at that time, it shows that we were very busy. It was a long Memorial day weekend, and we accepted full responsibilities for the inconvenience. while we are usually very quick to serve tables, this situation to happen rarely, but sometimes it could.     La experiencia fue buena aunque solicitamos pan sin gluten y no tenían, consideramos que un restaurante de ese nivel debería tener algunas opciones de pan o galletas sin gluten

    My wife and I travelled from Seattle to LaJolla so I could have a heart procedure at Scripps. We did get a chance to sample a number of well regarded restaurants. This was my favorite. I was told to limit my sodium intake for a couple of days. Our wonderful waiter Hadrian spoke w the chef who recommended certain dishes. They were also able to modify some dishes. We split the mango crab salad. I had the scallops w pea risotto. My wife had filet w pom frites. Fantastic. The seating was comfortable. The high ceiling minimized noise. The room was bright and airy. Besides Hadrian the staff was attentive. Finally I noticed a number of people being greeted by the owner. If a restaurant has a loyal, local following, it deserves the visit. Highly recommended.
