The food is always consistently delicious and the service friendly and helpful. We tried it for lunch on the patio and all were very happy with the experience. Everything we ordered was very well prepared - sauces were well thought out, meats moist, veggies nicely crunchy. And then came the donuts - best dessert I've had in a long time. It would have been worth eating there just for those donuts. Noise level was a bit much for me, and I found the wine list could have used more wines in the lower end of the price range. The food really is very good. Wonderful flavours and presentations. The lobster curry was AWESOME and the tacos were very good, wish there were more of them! The two beef dishes we had were very good (wraps and alberta beef). Tuna was so-so and the donut sampler plate was a perfect ending! Over three days we ate at many places but by far, this was the best!! I would go here again and again. This is a must-eat!! Calamari, Bajan Fish taco, Pulled pork taco, & a pork w slaw were ALL fantastic. The only cab by the glass was amazing. YOU GAVE TO GO HERE!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAn Ottawa must-dine at!Was in Ottawa for business and a friend (local) recommended as she referred to Side Door as the "Buddakan" (a New York restaurant) of Ottawa. The menu and taste did not disappoint, the ambiance was modern chic and fun. Loved it the first time, returned twice more before departing. This is my Ottawa must-dine location. Apparently Chef was winner of Top Chef Canada, cool! Braised Beef, Beef Tartare salad, tacos....mini donuts, drink menu....just go and eat there!!!6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMOur server was exceptionalOur server was exceptional and explained everything on the menu. It was my first visit to the resto. Cocktails are delicious and I love that the menu was tapas - you can share everything and they even added an extra taco to our group of 3 order. The tacos are actually pretty awesome. Ambience is great and located in a really nice spot. Will definitely go back.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous and suprising foodWe had been meaning to try Sidedoor for months and are glad we finally did. The tacos were recommended to us and are a must have - we tried the beef, chicken and lamb with the table favourite the beef but all were excellent. Other highlights were the lamb curry and the broiled black cod, with the only let down being the cornish hen. The table agreed that Sidedoor's strength is the surprising flavours in the dishes - you don't expect them to work but they do!! The service was great and our waitress suggested we could just let the chef decide what to send out and she wiuld pause to sed if we wanted more. This was a complete blast!! Everything she brought was loved and we had an awesome time just taking in the food and company, enjoying great wine and trying mug of the menu!

This is a great place for a date as you share all the dishes of food. My only complaint was the temperature; it was a warm night out and it was too warm in the restaurant. The fancy seats are all upholstered in some kind of faux leather, so I kind of got sweaty and stuck to the seat.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a wonderful additionWhat a wonderful addition to the Ottawa restaurant scene! Had a great evening and the food was outstanding. Service was a little spotty. Too much attention at the beginning and then didn't see our waiter (although others delivered food and wine) for ages. Each time we get a craving, we go through a whole process of "is it worth it"? It is worth routinely waiting 25 to get a drink order in? Is it worth them usually forgetting/mixing up at least one dish? Is it worth them often running out of many menu options by 8:30 on a Saturday night? All of these things have happened at least 3 times :(......... and yet, sometimes, it's still worth it! Because the food is delicious, satisfying and exactly what we want.

It's hard to nail down but if pressed I'd say exotic comfort food with a dash of Asian spice. The dumplings were probably the best I've ever had. My daughter became addicted to the spicy beef tacos and I had to direct her to other dishes or she would have eaten just that!
