Diner Reviews
  • "Service was excellent, menu met expectations, steak was prepared well, but it was lacking a traditional steakhouse experience. If you are used to huge side portions of a Morton's or Ruth's Chris, the tiny little cup of mushrooms or equally small portion of sautéed veggies will seem like an afterthought."

  • "This is a good option for Tallahassee. Good prices, atmosphere, and service."

  • "Sometimes we have loved this place, but it was not so great for our anniversary dinner. Their small rooftop bar had such loud music that we could not stay for a drink and to watch the sunset. Then they ran out of our favorite steak the porterhouse ( how does a steak house run out of one of their 5 offered steaks at 7:30 on a Friday night??). Delivered a cocktail to my husband in a glass with a large crack in it and all this came with an expensive bill. The food was good, the waitress was decent, so we will give it one more chance at some point."

  • "Steaks are always great and cooked to perfection. I love that they have you cut into your steak and check it under a small flashlight that the server has to ensure your steak is cooked to your likings. I do wish there were more options for sides like broccoli, sweet potato, etc."

  • "Me and Fiance really enjoyed it.. This was our first time there and celebrating our 2 year anniversary.. We had bacon wrapped barbeque shrimp for appetizer.. I had the 12oz porterhouse steak and fiance had the crab cakes.. Absolutely delicious.. Going back there in a few weeks to try more stuff on the menu.."

  • "Shula's is perfect for a special occasion. It is a little pricey for a weekly dining experience. We'll be back next year."

  • "The staff was skillfully attentive to both our dining experience and the fact we were discussing business. We were never interrupted by the excellent and seamless table service. The food was premium in all respects, as was the presentation. The overall experience portrayed the philosophy of excellence that we strive to provide to our clients."

  • "Dined at Shula's for my wife's birthday. Was a great experience however it was quite expensive. Even with a coupon for a free entree our bill was still close to $100 for the two of us, however the filet mignon was absolutely perfect."

  • "Shula's is out spot for special occasions. Although a bit pricey, it is our favorite restaurant. We were greeted promptly and made to feel welcome. We had reservations, arrived a little early but were seated immediately. Our server Justin arrived quickly, asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and took our beverage orders. Drinks arrived quickly, ordered appetizers and our dinners. Specials were explained. Our food, Cowboy steak and salmon were excellent and dessert, chocolate mousse was also excellent."

  • "I celebrated my sixth wedding anniversary at Hotel Duval; it was the absolute perfect hotel selection. We had reservations at Shula's for Friday, February 28, 2014 @ 8:30pm. We were greeted with a complimentary bottle of wine and appetizers. Our server, Micah, was the best and made our day extra special. I can assure you that we will be back."

  • "I think the steaks at Don Shula's Tallahassee location are mediocre, not much different than you can fix yourself on the backyard grill. The steaks lack the sear and 'crust' that you get on a steak at a premium steakhouse. Furthermore, the ambiance is shockingly basic -- spartan decor, no tablecloths, more like you find in a BBQ joint than a steakhouse. Probably won't be back. Poor value here."

  • "My family and I love our neighborhood Shula's. Our recent visit was for my oldest son, Carson to celebrate his 10th birthday. We will soon be back for my husband's birthday."

  • "I was in town to visit my daughter at FSU & she wanted a good steak. Although its pricey, the steak was delicious. I had scallops which were also great. Just disappointed in the dessert choices. Ordered the chocolate mousse cake & that's what it was...all mousse & no cake. Was hoping for a layer of rich chocolate cake. Otherwise a nice meal."

  • "Typically one expects exceptional services and food from Shula's. Unfortunately this time I found the service to be okay at best and some of the food was sub par. When I relayed the same to our waitress she did ask me if i wanted it replace. This felt more of an inconvenience so I eat the toughest steak I have ever had at this restaurant. For the price I felt let down."

  • "I Love steak houses. Had never been to Shula's. Overall, very good. Service was awesome! Staff was very good at their jobs! Apps: Crab cakes (Awesome - all crab!) . BBQ shrimp wrapped with bacon( AWESOME!!), fried calamari, and Lobster bisque both also good. For dinner we had an 8 oz Filet Mignon, 24 Oz Porterhouse and Kansas city Strip. Filet was the best. Other steaks were good, but my only complaint was they needed more a Char on the outside. That would have made them even better and given them a 5 starts. All steak come with 2 sides, which was great. Mushrooms, asparagus and Mash were the best. Dessert, Bourbon Pecan pie and Carrot cake, both awesome! I would highly recommend!"

  • "My girlfriend and I had reservations for Valentine's Day; the food was pretty good, but that was it. The main issue is the poor planning in how guests were seated. Our reservations were for 8:15, and we were not seated until nearly 8:40. Meanwhile, several groups of guests came in and were sat immediately. Four tables were open almost the whole time we were waiting, and after 20 minutes we were seated at one of the tables that been open since 8:15. We were told this was "our table" that was allegedly "still occupied" during our whole wait. With a less than full restaurant, and no less than 3 hostesses, this came off as rude and poorly planned, and not what we were expecting from Shula's, one of the only "5 star" restaurants in Tallahassee."

  • "Had a great meal as expected. Roses for all the ladies was a nice touch. Harpist was not necessary and detracted from the experience. Service was attentive in spite of very busy night."

  • "Tried the New York Strip steak instead of my usual Filet Mignon and was sadly disappointed with the strongly, grisly piece of meat I got. I had taken most of it home, but hope if I had brought it to my server's attention, she would have fixed it!"

  • "food was outstanding, service was perfect, only complaint is that we were seated off in a corner on the side of the bar next to the register, which was a busy spot for the waiters going in and out. Will definitely be returning though!"

  • "Very nice restaurant but, for the price, was disappointing. My NY strip was good, but my supposed medium-rare was a good medium to medium-well. I should have returned it and the server asked me as soon as I got the steak if it was done properly. Was a little hard to tell on the first bite and I said was OK. Still, for the price, you would expect it to be correct the first time. My wife got the pecan crusted salmon and she said it was "soaked" in butter. She felt it was way too rich and she complained about it all night."

  • "I ordered a Med. Rare Filet and half was cooked well done, other side was cooked correctly. Steak was a little cold and not juicy or tender as a top end steak should be for restaurant specializing in serving Angus prime beef. Told waitress did not like way it was cooked, but it took over an hour to receive entree. She did not offer to bring me another one anyway. A good Filet should melt in your mouth if cooked correctly. Not in same category as Capital Grille, Ruth Chris's, etc. Their prices are about the same though. It was very loud this night and hard to have any conversation making the time waiting for entree seem longer. Calamari Fries were good for a starter. The scallops entree looked good, Cowboy Cut steak was cooked correctly."

  • "It is truly exceptional to be a repeat customer and receive consistent quality service and great food, even some of the best restaurants sometimes fail to deliver every time, not Shula's Tallahassee, they shine above them all."

  • "We had a birthday discount which we received online. I would think that the one celebrating the birthday would receive the discount. However, the discount was the cheapest dinner. Not one to complain but the birthday dinner (within reason) should be On The House. Experience was wonderful and my wife and I had a fantastic dinner and the best service around."

  • "My girlfriend was visiting from Texas, when i decided to reserve a table for us. This was the perfect place for our last night date. It is on the high end price wise, but it was all worth it. We were seated in a great booth, no one was near us so it gave us time to talk without worrying about others. The food was outstanding and my girlfriend loved it. She has never really been to an up scale place like this, and now I'm going to have to take her out to these places more often. She was impressed by the service, and the atmosphere of the restaurant. She loved the food, and the bottle of wine I selected. Can't wait for her to come back, so we can make another visit to Shula's"

  • "We called ahead several days in advance for a reservation, but were put in a high traffic area next to the bar. The bartender was our server. The scallop appetizer was quite good, but the steak was actually way too salty. It was cooked properly and seemed a good, if not great, piece of beef. Overall, I find Shulas to be a sports bar masquerading as a very expensive restaurant. If it wants to be an upscale restaurant, treat its customers better and get rid of the sports bar atmosphere. If it wants to be a sports bar, then lower the prices."

  • "My daughter and I took my wife to Shula's 347 for her birthday. I ordered the Tuna with seasonal vegitable and mashed potato. My meal was excellent. My daughter order a steak that was extremely tough. Her side orders were good but I have had better steaks at 1/3 the cost. My wfe ordered the filet mignon which was burnt. Admittedly, she ordered it well done and even suggested to the Chef to butterfly it if needed. Also, the texture was mush similar to putting a lot of meat tenderizer on it. We had to request refills for our tea and water more than once These three meals with 2 drinks from the bar and one desert was $166 which I expected to pay. No problem with the price but I expected the service and food to reflect the cost of the meal."
