  • "We brought a couple new to Denver with their two toddlers. The staff handled our party of 6 and it's accompanying noisiness and messiness with perfect respectfulness, even helping to look for little toys on the floor that had fallen off the table. In general, I wouldn't recommend Shells to families, as it's small and gets robustly loud in spite of younger tykes. But, on the other hand, they seem very welcome. The food was tasty, especially the entree of brussels sprouts with pasta and gorgonzola cream sauce, and the pizza was excellent. All the food came out at once, which helped us to not miss a beat in conversation. Almost don't want to tell people how good this restaurant is, as it will get more difficult to get in."

  • "We found this quaint restaurant nestled in a neighborhood. The locals know it well. It usually starts getting really busy around 5:30, so I would get there early. The food is amazing. It's a little loud downstairs, so try to be seated upstairs by the bar for a more intimate setting. Reservations are a good idea."

  • "Don't normally make a reservation as we tend to come early or for happy hour. Outside or upstairs tend to be quieter, which we prefer. Love the eggs carbonara and Caesar salad. They no longer have the veggie benedict on the menu but always make it upon my wife's request. She said this was the best one ever with sautéed mushrooms, asparagus and broccoli rabe. Cannot beat the inexpensive bloody's and mimosas for brunch. This is our go-to for comfort food in a relaxed, if not sometimes hopping, atmosphere."

And our server was terrible, said it was her first day there, but I'm sure it was her first time ever waiting tables. Assume that is not typical service for this cute neighborhood bistro and will definitely go back!"

Calamari is wonderful, the bread is baked oven fresh and service was quick. The food was typical american italian, alit if heavy entrees. The fig and pear flat bread was great, reminded me of Dada in Delray Florida. Definitely on my list of places to go back to. Great for bringing out if town friends. Young crowd, great energy."

  • "We often go to Shells and Sauce for their great, inexpensive happy hour. This is not a run of the mill junk food happy hour, it includes stuffed portabella mushrooms, grilled chiciken and beef skewers, gormet pizza, and arugula salad - all for around or under $5. This last time, we were celebrating my daughter's birthday. We ordered may appetizers and tried some entre's as well. The entre's were all so tasty. This has been one of our regular go to places and will continue to be!!"

  • "This neighborhood restaurant was recommended to me by my savvy daughter. We were meeting friends and needed a place to eat before heading to Botanic Gardens for the Chihuly exhibition. We arrived for early seating and were quite comfortable. Service was quick and friendly. As the evening crowd arrived, the ambience changed quickly. The restaurant had an energetic vibe, and it was fun to see all the families enjoying an evening out. Great selection of salads and main courses on the menu. The hot crusty bread was a hit at our table. All of us enjoyed our meals. Lobster ravioli, YUM! The only down side was the closeness of the seating. We needed to nudge our table forward so we weren't bothering customers who were seated behind us."

One improvement, seems lately (like the last two times we were there), we had to ask for the bread and dipping sauce, whereas normally, they bring it after they take the drink order. "

  • "This was not a good experience. The main room is not just noisy and crowded - it's cacophonous and unpleasant, and difficult to have a conversation. I told the waitress I was looking for a lighter pasta and she steered me to the penne and brussells sprouts, which was one of the heaviest and most unappetizing dishes I've been served in years. They fry the sprouts for some reason, making an already-heavy dish that much worse. Ate about five bites and left the rest, but the waitress didn't seem to care."

  • "Had a reservation at 7:15. Was sat quickly and ordered our food not soon after. Our meals came out to our table a full HOUR after we sat down! Bread was not given till at least 15-20 mins after being seated. We requested more bread because of our long wait and there was none available for the rest of our time there. Food was good even though one order was incorrect. Decided just to eat it instead of waiting even longer. Our server tired his best and we could see it was out of his hands. Normally have good experienced here but this time they must have had a bad night. "

  • "There was a bit of a mixup when we first arrived that was quickly sorted out. Mixups happen, so as long as they're sorted out professionally, I never really mind. The food was a smidgen pricey but delicious and the service was attentive. Overall, I would definitely return. It was a nice night out with friends."
