Diner Reviews
  • "Where did all the kids come from?! It was overrun - I thought I was booking a nice calm table for breakfast with four friends. Noise and out of control kids dampened our enjoyment somewhat. Everything else was great."

  • "I've had breakfast and brunch here, as well as dinner 3 times (including once with a large group). I think it has always been very good/excellent and I know I built it up in my head and with my date prior to going this time. It was the best it has ever been. The drinks are a little on the pricey side, but totally worth it if you want a really good crafted cocktail, and the food is incredibly reasonable considering how much lovingly crafted fare you receive. Might be the best place to eat in Cherry Creek!"

  • "A wonderful sunday brunch place, especially with kids. They have a separate area where kids can play, while you sit, relax, comment with friends and family and eat good food. Highly recommended!"

  • "We loved the staff wearing pjs. Plus the brunch (and bloody mary bar) were excellent!"

  • "Pajama Brunch is a MUST for my visiting family! The kids love it as it is such a unique experience to go to breakfast in PJs. Adults love the DIY Bloody Mary bar and all the food is great."

  • "Make your own desserts! I'm a chef, and my two friends who joined me are both pastry chefs and the quality of the desserts we were served was despicable at best. If you're going to participate in Restaurant Week and serve a dessert, then it shouldn't be pre-sliced apple pie from Sysco that's not even warm or rock hard "marshmallow" with a dry brownie. Even if you don't have a pastry chef any trained chef should know how to make a decent dessert. As for the rest of the meal, my entree was mediocre (I had the Artichoke and Fennel Cannelloni and it was severely under-seasoned, drowning in bechamel and soggy). However both my friends enjoyed the other two options and we all thought the appetizers were well done."

  • "As always going into a restaurant that is part of a Marriott I would expect it to have good food. I would expect the furniture and the room to be well decorated and a professional and comfortable decor. This met that expectation. We were seated quickly and easily, the room filled up slowly but steadily. That was a good sign. The reputation as comfort food is accurate. The food was comfort in an elegant way. The rolls are very good, a chef specialty I heard. The couch potatoes which are made from sweep potatoes are fantastic. I recommend you eat here, however it comes with a Marriott price. This is not Denny's food or prices."

  • "We went to Second Home for my birthday with my daughter. The food was very good and the waitress brought us a birthday treat to share, which was very thoughtful. The food was very good but the restaurant was too noisy. The people at the table next to us were very, very loud. It was a little pricey, but that is to be expected in that neighborhood. We went there for our office Christmas dinner and it was perfect, not too noisy. Of course, we had the room in the back to ourselves and maybe the curtain drowned out some of the noise."

  • "I'm not a "foodie" but I'm also not a novice to the restaurant scene. Second Home was remarkably unremarkable. Food was average to good but there was nothing "wow" about any of the dishes we tried. Between four adults we tried two appetizers, three entrees (two of us had the same dish thus three vs four different entrees) and two deserts. The desserts were hands down the most disappointing. The appetizing descriptions will tempt you but I would suggest you save your money and take a stroll elsewhere in Cherry Creek to satisfy your sweet tooth. Our server was very attentive and kept good tabs on us. She was great. Second Home might be worth a try but for the money I can list a dozen places that will send you home planning your return."

  • "I had high hopes for this restaurant given its ratings,, but disappointment started at check in. When I gave my name to the greeter, she was quick to tell us she could seat us in 35 minutes. When I advised her of the reservation she informed us that a 20+ person group was seated earlier and that they were all backed up. So: reservations mean nothing here. The greeter did tell us that we could sit at the bar where there were seats available. The food was just okay: the cheesesteak was VERY greasy and had to be eaten with a fork and knife. The tomator soup wasn't very good and more than 3/4 of it was left in the bowl. I was very surprised that no-one noticed or was concerned about this. All in all: I won't eat here again."

  • "I think the Restaurant week pressure was effecting the food and quality. My order was cool, and needed to be reheated. I believe they executed the dish reasonably well, but was far less flavorful than I like. The food was acceptable, but not outstanding."

  • "I avoid restaurants in hotels like the plague, but this is different! This is my second time and I couldn't help but order the Chicken and Waffles again. I did have a starter to share, so I know the crab cake is equally excellent. Not sure if I've be able to order anything other than the Chicken and waffles the next time either... but I'll make my way through the starters!"

  • "Ambiance, food, service...Second Home excelled in these respects on our first visit. Recommended are the Berkshire pork chop and short ribs. The tater tots are accompanied by sauces that make them shine. We'll be back."

  • "Was a great experience overall. Had great food: Steak-frites and a duck special with sweet potato hash and brussel sprouts. Was cooked to order and paired with a nice bottle of wine and a few cocktails. Great choice for a dinner that's higher end but not so fancy that it's stuffy. The server (Lindsay, I believe) was excellent - energetic, funny, and the perfect level of conversational."

  • "The food is tasty, albeit small portions and therefore pricey if you intend to eat an adequate amount of food. The servers all seem scripted...when asked about two dishes on the menu, we were told they were two of her "favorites". Then at the next table, someone asked about a different dish on the menu...same response from the same server. "it's probably my favorite". and overheard from a different server at yet another table, same thing. Sooooooo....everything is her favorite. Sell sell sell. The bar scene is lively and the firepit area is fun after dark, but if you are interested in honesty and integrity, this might not be the best choice. in town."

  • "We recently moved to the area and have been trying out the local restaurants almost weekly. This one is definitely worth a return, probably often. The menu is quite varied, with a wide range of items to appeal to any taste or whim including daily specials."

  • "Second home was delicious! We had the lamb bolognese which was a special and the charcuterie board, which had a lot on it, and they were both so good! When the weather is nice you can sit outside under the covered patio by the fire pit."

  • "I had been to Second Home before and it was an okay spot... not somewhere I would rave about. However, since they were on the Food Network and hired a new executive chef the place has totally turned into one of my favorites! We ate a bunch of appetizers - the sweet potato gnocchi with pork belly and a poached egg was unbelievable, and for my entree I had the best scallop dish of my life! My drinks were great, our server was spectacular, and shockingly the prices were very reasonable. I was with a group of three people and we ordered three appetizers, two drinks each, entrees, and even two extra sides (brussels sprouts and mac and cheese - such yummy goodness) AND our bill was under $200. On top of that, free valet in Cherry Creek North!"

  • "Brought new SO here to meet longtime friends. For the 4 of us, it came out to about $170 (2 mixed drinks, 2 beers, 1 wine). This included the steak special, daily special, and 2 regular dishes with a salad and a chili. Expect ~$20 per dish. Help left us alone mostly but never left us wanting, we were seated in the middle and never had to raise our voice, and were not rushed out after the meal. For a frugal person, this would be a good special date. For a foodie, they have a wide range of comfort foods from chicken & waffles to great BBQ (great rub, decent sauce)."

  • "The rest of the food was unremarkable. Wait staff food, food slow in coming."

  • "The special of the day Rueben sandwich was ok but a bit too salty and the edges of the bread were actually burned. However the tomato bisque and crème brulee were good. A bit overpriced I feel for what you receive!"

  • "We made reservations for 6 adults and 2 children. The kids menu was great and a great range of choices for the adults."

  • "We had so much hope for this place. The menu was wonderful. However, the chicken was very dry (inedible). The fish dish was passable but also dry. Though the flavors themselves were pleasant, we will not be returning."

  • "Very very busy, but not surprising given the day we went. Lots of kids ... made it very noisy, not much in the way of acoustics to encourage conversation. Our table was a bit big, so the five of us didn't talk all that much (too much distance between us). Once the kids were gone it became more pleasant. Wait staff was good and attentive. Food was good!"

  • "We decided to go out for Christmas brunch instead of making something at home. The restaurant was nice but there was nothing special about it or the food and the service was extremely slow. The restaurant is located inside the Marriott hotel - the hotel lobby was beautifully decorated but the restaurant was not - it was blah. Our waitress was very nice but it took quite awhile for her to acknowledge us and to take our drink order - at least 5 mins. After that the service became even slower. We sat down at 145p and didn't leave until 330p - that is how slow they were. It should not take 3 people almost two hours to eat brunch. The food was okay. Nothing memorable about the presentation or the taste. Overall I was expecting more."

  • "Once we realized that the restaurant was in the JW Marriott, the rest fell rapidly into place. We were seated and greeted promptly, the menu and food explained and our choices made we had a marvelous meal and will certainly return."

  • "My wife had been here for brunch several times, so we decided to try it for dinner. We had great service from 2-3 employees throughout the night. The food was great. We started with the cheese and charcuterie plate, which was HUGE!!! We probably could have split meals, but then we wouldn't get to try more menu items. My wife had the meatloaf which was delicious. I ordered the chicken and waffles, and was not disappointed. I actually think I received an entire chicken, with four corn waffles and the Stranahan's maple syrup. Needless to say, we had leftovers, and no room for dessert. Guess we will have to go back..."
